Please reread your copy of the Old Testament. It’s in there. Like he said, the New Testament IS, WITHOUT A DOUBT, the retelling of the Old Testament. Also, the OT is the retelling of many other myths: Horus, Mithra, Dionysus, Appolonius, etc. For example, Attis of Phrygia: born on Dec 25 from a virgin, considered a savior of mankind, was crucified on a tree, he descended into the underworld and after three days, was resurrected. His body as bread was eaten by his worshippers. He was both the Divine Son and the Father. One can find 20 God myths predating the OT that have a list of at least 10-12 of the same attributes.

Look at what George Lucas has to say, somewhere in his interviews, who studied Campbell. There are stark lessons in the Bible for a good life, like many other holy books, but only if the language is taught to you through various means, that is: _how_ to read such work. I've done that through the study of mythology, not what is told, but _how_ the stories are told. Mythology holds the oldest way we know to tell a story, to impart wisdom, and to entertain as well. Learning is only gained through effort, and reading works like the Bible are not easy.

It's also a huge guide to realities. For instance, there's a phrase in the bible where it states that killing a man in your home at night is fine, but if you kill him in your home in the day time, it's not ok.
At first this might seem like non-sense, but in reality, yes society will factually treat you different, especially back then, if you kill someone at night vs the day time. Your neighbors would see you as defending your home at night but they would be super suspicious and probably convict you if you did it in the day time. Some facts about the Bible (imaginatively named after the Ancient Greek for “book,” “biblos”): 1. the “book” is a collection of texts written by multiple authors over centuries. 2. The texts are examples of different genres, notably including laws (a favorite genre of the ancient near east, where the Old Testament was written in Hebrew), historical narrative, and Epistles (from the Latin word for “letter,” “epistula,” the letters were written in Greek, like the rest of the New Testament). 3. In terms of piecing together the past to learn about God (a primary purpose of the Bible), we couldn’t ask for better historical evidence, which again includes historical narrative and letters written by primary sources, for example Jesus’ disciples). 4. In terms of written history (historical documents pre-printing press written by hand) no other ancient or medieval text comes close to the amount of evidence we have arguing for the textual integrity of the individual texts that comprise the Bible.

@John Mateus copy and pasted from a Protestant website:
How Did the Apocryphal Books Become Part of Some Bibles?
Actually no one knows for sure how the apocryphal books came to be part of some copies of the Old Testament. Many, however, think that the extra books were added when the Old Testament (originally written in Hebrew) was translated into Greek. This Greek translation of the Old Testament is called the Septuagint and was produced by Jewish scholars in Alexandria, Egypt about 250 B.C. This theory is based on the fact that the earliest copy of the Septuagint available today contains these extra books, while none of the Hebrew Scriptures contain them. These books, along with the rest of the Bible, were translated by Jerome into Latin around A.D. 400, but Jerome himself did not think they belonged in the Old Testament.
Why Don’t We Accept the Apocryphal Books?
      (1) Even though the Septuagint existed in New Testament times and was available to the New Testament writers (the Book of Hebrews quotes from the Septuagint), there are no direct quotations from the Apocrypha in the New Testament nor does the New Testament refer to any apocryphal books as part of Scripture. (2) No general church council in the first four centuries of Christian history endorsed apocryphal books. While some early Christians thought highly of these books, others, such as Athanasius, Cyril of Jerusalem, Origen and Jerome opposed them. (3) While Augustine accepted the Apocrypha, his list is not exactly the same as that found in Catholic Bibles [for example, he omitted Baruch, which is in the Catholic Bible, and he included 1 Esdras, which is not in the Catholic Bible]. Furthermore, Augustine seems to have changed his mind from accepting the Septuagint as authoritative to later recognizing that only the Hebrew Scriptures were inspired. (4) Even the Roman Catholic Church did not officially recognize the Apocrypha as belonging in the Bible until the Council of Trent in A.D. 1546-—Catholicism’s response to the Reformation. (5) The Apocrypha appeared in Protestant Bibles even before the Council of Trent and on into the nineteenth century but were placed in a section separate from the Old and New Testaments.

No anger/offense towards you, but fuck Catholicism; They're the ones that first started to stereotype the idea of Jews being penny-pinchers solely bc they were fine with separation of church/temple and bank. Even though Calothics were basically bribing peasants to be 'cleansed' of their sins. That covered up pedophilia for centuries. No. Apocryphal is an understatement in regards to the book.

I love when the lost try to act like an authority on God's word. Once you experience the holy spirit of God enter you then you KNOW it's not a myth. It's also not logical to say the Bible is full of myths when the books of the Bible that are Histories have been proven to be supported by archeologist over and over again.
The problem is that there are too many part time scholars who THINK they know everything because they study a little here and there and then find something they don't like and want to harp on it. Without the holy spirit to guide you in pursuit of a greater understanding your just treading water in an endless ocean that is too great to comprehend by yourself. Yet what prideful man who is full of himself will ever admit he wasn't enough. Wont they always blame what they can't comprehend instead of taking a deeper look at themselves? Too much self pride always comes before a fall into humility.
Know that God is not a myth. Instead understand that he is everything and everywhere. He is always there beside us even though he gives us the freedom to decide on our own if we will do good or evil. We are not little biological robots that are preprogrammed into slavery. We hold the responsibility for our own actions and choices. Freedom to choose good or evil means the responsibility for good and bad in the world is OURS.
You are free to choose. I hope you make choices that bring joy and happiness into your life. The second commandment Jesus gave was to love yourself so that you could love your neighbor as yourself. If your heart if full of self loathing or hate then the world you create is one where everyone hates themselves and each other.
The secret to loving yourself is to admit that you human and that you can make mistakes. Forgive yourself and ask others to forgive you too. Yet, forgiveness comes from repenting. Repenting means to be sorry for what you have done and to do your best not to do it again. Make peace with yourself by admitting to yourselves the wrongs you have done and then repent. As you gain forgiveness, you will find that you can look the person in the mirror in the eyes again and start to love again.
Love yourself. Then love others as you love yourself too. It's your choice to make because you are not a slave but a person with the freedom to choose. Choose wisely and God bless =)

Condescending and arrogant people like you is the part of the reason people turn away from religion. When you say "I love when the lost try to act like an authority on God's word", you are implaying to have some degree authority or sense about what's the real word of god.
You claim to experience the holy spirit of god when you wrote: "Once you experience the holy spirit of God enter you then you KNOW it's not a myth". How do you know for certain?
because you feel it? because god himself enlighted you? How do you know it was not some psycological phenomena in the state of extacy?
Yet you also say: "Wont they always blame what they can't comprehend instead of taking a deeper look at themselves? Too much self pride always comes before a fall into humility". Then you should take a deep look at yourself. Your first statement reflecs arrogant pride "I love when the lost try to act like an authority on God's word."
Another claim of yours: "Know that God is not a myth. Instead understand that he is everything and everywhere. He is always there beside us even though he gives us the freedom to decide on our own if we will do good or evil." is a pantheistic view that plenty of PhD schoolars would disagree.

The problem is when people continue to take it literally when we know better now, but they didn't know better then (back when these stories were created). I wouldn't even go as far as David takes it- he's basically presenting it as though they knew they were writing myths. I have no doubt there were some stretches added in over the years and through translations to add some flavor (like any modern day fish story), but my interpretation is that as far as the writers knew- what they were saying was, for the most part, true. For example- there are "great flood" stories in almost every religion and culture. Do I believe there was a "great flood" at some point in history? Yes. Do I believe the entire world was underwater and one boat carried two of every living thing aboard? No. That's not to say that as far as the people telling the story knew, the "whole world" might represent only a few square miles that they've ever seen and experienced. So as far as they know, it's accurate. And as far as how long this went on, how exactly are they keeping accurate time? Then as these people told their story to someone else, that person also had the same experience (albeit a different area, and different animals, etc.) and added in their two cents. Then this story got told to their grandchildren. Then- several thousand years later- all these clay tablets are found talking about these "similar" stories, translated into another language and lumped into one big story. And now we think of it as meaning one person "saved the world" story. That's what makes the most sense to me at least.
But at the end of the day, none of these details really make a difference. The point is in the moral of the story and the wisdom passed along over thousands of years of human debauchery. Right from wrong. Good from bad. As long as that's the take away, who really cares about the literal meaning. In fact, the people that take it literally, are just as dangerous (if not, more) as the people that have no moral compass in life. Why? Because they use their literal interpretation of the Bible to justify immoral behavior. Which is almost worse than being ignorant to morality to begin with. But that doesn't mean that people should just toss the Bible because it doesn't "all add up". There are several lessons to be learned and many takeaways.

The issue with mythologizing all of it is you never get a God who actually interacts and deeply cares for His creation. You get an aloof God who is unconcerned and never actually gets involved and shows a level of concern and love. The obvious problem with this idea is it isn't written that way. It tells the Story as God actually being involved and caring so much that God sent Jesus to redeem the world to Himself and defeating sin and death on the cross as an actual man but by being God also had the power to defeat death which is reasonable considering He created us so He also has the power to fix us and the universe He made.

There's some wisdom when David said: " Do you believe the Bible is the literal work of God? Rabbi says no." " But is it possible? Rabbi says yes." It's so easy to point out what is wrong with the bible, but it's not the details of the story that is as important as the message of the story imo. Events in the bible needs to be taken and read in the context it is presented in, for example, the creation of man in Genesis is a poem, to bring our the message of the limitations of man in contrast to the magnitude of God. If people read it with the lens of how you would read a newspaper article, we're missed the point of the story.

The Bible has been the oldest most used book, it’s been translated countless times, and our modern languages don’t work that way. The argument that the world couldn’t have been made in a week by god, or other questions we have are irrelevant. It's important to remember that he is using the word "myth" as a description of ancient stories and literature, not truth. There are two primary definitions of "myth": 1. A traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events; 2. A widely held but false belief or idea. (New Oxford American Dictionary)
When someone says, "That's just a myth," they mean, "That's not true." When an anthropologist says, "This is their creation myth," he is describing a type of story or literature. That type of literature may or may not contain literal truth but often serves as a device to transmit existential truth and profound wisdom. Most people use the word "myth" primarily in its second sense, something that's not true. Even though most understand the word as it applies to ancient stories and literature, they automatically carry over the second sense of the word to mean the story contains no truth. That would be a mistake.
Poetry is another example. If someone asked a poet if their poetry is true, in most cases, they cannot answer with a simple yes or no. Poetry is not often literally true but that does not mean it has no truth. In fact, some would argue that the truth transmitted by poetry is more profound than literal truth.
I've come across two good descriptors for the early chapters of Genesis: "Mytho-History" and "Theologically Informed Saga". There are elements of literal and historical truth but they are told in the genre of myth. Their primary function is to transmit a truth beyond literal or historical truth.
That's what he means when he refers to the Bible as "myth". I will nitpick and say it's a generalization to call the Bible myth. The Bible is not a book, it's a library of many books written by different authors over a long period of time. It has myth, poetry, history, letters, apocalypse, gospels, wisdom literature, and more. Each of those is a different genre. Just as we read a newspaper, novel, letter, or poetry according to their genre, the books of the Bible should be read according to their genre.
When people argue whether creation happened in six days, it's obvious they do not understand the genre of literature they are dealing with. Ancient cultures did not have an understanding of modern scientific methods for acquiring and recording data nor did they have an understanding of modern historical narrative. When one reads literature through the wrong lens, it makes no sense. When read according to its genre, it can transmit profound truth.

I wish Joe would sit down with a Lee Strobel, Andrew Wommack, Kirk Cameron or even Phil Robertson to discuss the Bible & Jesus. I think Joe & Phil would be a great conversation!

The original Bible, the Torah was written in Hebrew which the letters are also used as numbers. The Torah is both numerical code and a collection of wisdom because everything in the universe is energy manifested through mathematics. The building blocks of everything is the 5 platonic solids, sacred geometry. The bible and most other religious teachings are really just deep understanding of mathematical patterns that repeat and express themselves from the tiniest aspects of creation to the cosmos and even within the human body/mind. From the fractal patterns in the branching and rooting of trees to create the most surface area to efficiently capture carbon and put it into the ground to the fractals of 5 in the body, head and 4 limbs then at the end of those limbs another fractal of 5. The brain is also a fractal, creating more folds to increase surface area for neurons without needing more space. The golden ratio expressed in a galaxy, pinecone, snail shell, sunflower, hurricane, and even the limbs of your body. The zodiac which is really more cosmic seasons. The Earth not only rotates (a day), orbits the sun (a year), but also is at a slight tilt creating a wobble. One cycle of this wobble taking around 25,920 years. The ancients divided the 360° path of the sun around the Earth, relative to the view from Earth, into 12 30° sections. Each section containing a constelation and taking around 2,160 years to pass thru. The vernal equinox being in front of the constellation of aries thus being the age of aries. Each star and planet giving off it's own frequency. The Earth's frequency, known as the Schumann resonance, being about 7.83hz. The sun being in front of each constellation giving off different intensities. These frequencies being associated with certain natural disasters, events in society, our emotions, personalities, even our purpose, all based on mathematics. These teachings in different religions and cultures are all the same info often written in metaphors and personifications due to persecution. Jesus not only representing a teacher of wisdom but also the SUN, and the 12 disciples being the zodiac. You'll see the zodiac in every culture. Even the pyramids are aligned with the sun or constellations. The names of the week are named after astrology. Sunday=Sun, Mon=moon,Tues=Mars, Wed=Mercury, Thurs=Jupiter, Fri= Venus, Sat= Saturn. More noticeable in other languages, the English versions come from Norse and other cultures. The Islamic symbol is the moon and venus. Even the story of Christ rising again is an allegory of the human body's anatomy. The claustrum produces an "oil" or cerebral spinal fluid, it flows down the 33 vertebrae of the spine and rises again if the body is in a state of homeostasis, rises back up the spine and hits the hypothalamus sits for 2-3 days and creates a bioelectric circuit causing the pineal gland (one example, genesis 32:30 mentions the pineal) to secrete more seratonin and dmt causing the individual to raise their consciousness. This is also the medical symbol, the caduceus, that represents healing and medicine. The rod is the spine, the 2 serpents are the left and right hemispheres of the brain, and the ball/pinecone on top is the pineal gland. The pineal gland also expressing the Fibonacci sequence/golden ratio. You're surrounded by symbolism, It's another language, again due to persecution and censorship which has been going on since the beginning of man. The ones that understand the true teachings either try to suppress it from the masses or try to share the teachings through symbolism due to persecution. You literally manipulate matter by your thoughts, emotions, and voice all based on mathematics and frequency. The pyramids, art from Leonardo da Vinci and countless others all express geometry that is reflected in the human body/mind. The 7 angels, 7 trumpets, 7 seals.... are the 7 "chakras" within the body which are just main energy centers that have clusters of nerves, connected to the endocrine system. The gonads/ovaries, pancreas, thymus, adrenal, thyroid, pineal, and pituitary glands which shouldn't be under or over producing certain hormones to connect the body, like an antenna, to the divine. Every aspect of our society has been engineered to prevent you from realizing this information to enslave you. John D Rockefeller for example created the board of education to create a "society of workers, not thinkers", he also monopolized the medical industry supressing cures for cancer, monopolized the oil industry, federal reserve, news and newspaper. Control the information people receive and you influence their choices and the way they see reality. Everything has been monopolized and the markets are manipulated, disasters are created, fear and division is pushed all for profit and control. This war of the mind has been going on since before biblical times so learn more about how sacred geometry is expressed in every aspect of reality and the human body/mind's potential.

So do you see the Bible as a work to help the masses by ascended teachers or is Jesus actually the Son of God and the events in it are true?
