Ironically, in an age when space programs are taken for granted of, people are also becoming less and less actually interested in it because of the amount of fancy tech that goes in it just doesn't hold people's short attention spans. This goes back to the actual heart of real space programs, underneath all that shine; the actual journey that all those involve go through and the creativity and ingenuity needed. This is literally the ultimate cardboard spaceship experience we had as children.
Do you honestly not have any admiration for the amount of detail put into this project? Do you find all reenactments/movies/plays hipster bullshit? You have playlists on your channel labeled "FOOD!" and "Workouts!!!", that gives me quite a good indication for the type of mindset you have.
What a great and fun project, good way of thinking and bringing science to a different thinking audience. Only problem is these babies commenting on the video, my god grow up people
I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that artists know little about science. Sure they use different parts of the brain and are very different, but people can have more than one skill. Many artists are very interested in science based work, and this guy clearly knows his stuff and has done his research!
Yeah we derived a lot from learning about space, but going to mars shouldn't be a priority during a moment when we can't even handle matters at earth. We have enough resources and the agricultural technology for everyone to live independently, but the resources are never distributed equally. Progress isn't just increasing the pool of knowledge. It is also raising the living standards for humanity. You can decide for yourself which should take priority.
I mean: satelites, welding, jet engines, radio, computers and many other technologies were developed specifically with war in mind, but they benefit people enormously. space programs also develop new technologies which will likely have similar un-forseeable spin offs, but they are all about uniting people and moving forward instead of killing each other. If I thought any other scheme would be half as effective at improving life I would admit it. You have no idea what you'd do instead.
After that, he said "ride safe but don't get involved in the system". I think he meant to go ahead and do things, but without asking for too much permission.
Also I dont see what you mind about him, he is clearly just playing around, but he is making aware of NASA whose budget has gone down significantly, I think its great that he bothers
Any one else find it ironic how we cant even conquer the pressure of the deepest parts of the ocean or build on the moon but we want to skip to mars ??
I think your over-exaggerating this whole thing a bit. Its not like NASA has actually hired these people to make a 'play' for them, because of the budget cuts, which is what your proposing with that comment.... Its a bunch of independent artists, which have been lucky enough to have *some* contact with a few people who work for the Jet propulsion lab. Also inspiration is an important thing, without it there would be a lot less people interested in becoming our future scientists & engineers.
...than we'd be years and years more advanced. i completely agree that the wars need to stop, but that has nothing to do with money. war needs to stop because war is damaging in a million different ways. most importantly; it brings us further apart. we dont need rich people, we need equality, and we need to give those that arent fortunate, a chance to not just survive, but thrive. thats when we will become what we are intended to be.
This is something we do when we have the luxury of doing so... not when nearly a sixth of the population is starving along with a global economic decline...
you saw this problem exemplified by the soviet union - they achieved what you are talking about - equal education, pay etc - and they enjoyed great early success but once they needed to grow new technology they foundered. this was because they lacked an organic focus of capital, with goals given instead by a state run by politicians instead of professionals. I'm all for a bit of social welfare and better education, but we need rich people with ambition as much as we need a well run state.
as for the thing about the environment; yes, we should have a more ordered and centralised approach to maintaining and improving the balance of the ecosystem, this is a different issue. The fact is that there are not enough resources for everyone to do what they want to do, or even what they think they do best. Until there are, we need a system to get people to do stuff they wouldn't otherwise do. the current system is too un-equal, but to remove inequality itself is fantasy.
"Derr it takes just as much skill and brainpower to PRETEND to go to Mars, as it does to ACTUALLY go to Mars derr. We're just as good as NASA." What drugs are they on because I want some.

"the government will crush your spirit," true words that!
This is like the grown up version of the refrigerator box rocket in that back yard that you make your brother shake at lift off.
this is maybe one of the greatest things i've seen on youtube....
Please do more on Tom sachs
Any space program with Queens of the Stone Age playing in the background will get funding from me when i'm a millionaire.
Would much rather see Vice interview dudes who ACTUALLY made the Mars Rover!!!
This is the most elaborate, nerdy cosplay ever.
Did i click an Onion video by Accident?
3:44 The LM's on the moon aren't complete and freestanding. They're all missing the ascent stage.
What he means is that every “static display” you have seen is built around a big fat pole or column where there shouldn’t be one.
love you vice
More real than the one we paid for! At least they admit they can't go into "outer space".
just because u don't understand it doesn't mean it's not a documentary, its just like the episodes involving food
What a great and fun project, good way of thinking and bringing science to a different thinking audience. Only problem is these babies commenting on the video, my god grow up people
1:28 god damn she looks like Natalie Portman :) Anyway, this is the ultimate installation and performance art piece
She’s so fine
5:55 " we all just sat around and kinda fucked around with ideas" YEAH don't sensor yourself :)
Really cool.
I always get Chris hadfield adds before I watch a Tom Sachs video am i the only one?
The cool kids have gone mad.
Overly propagandized. They might be lost forever.
man i wish i could hang out with these guys when i use to be a small kid with my neighborhood friends
those were some good looking astronauts !
Van Neistat... PROPAGANDIST
I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that artists know little about science. Sure they use different parts of the brain and are very different, but people can have more than one skill. Many artists are very interested in science based work, and this guy clearly knows his stuff and has done his research!
This is brilliant, if you're confused check out the work of Tom Sachs and the Neistat brothers, particularly Casey Neistat
Casey isn't even that involved with Sachs it's Van who works with Tom
+homayoon ershadi yes you're right, but Casey also worked for Tom for a quite a while
+homayoon ershadi you're wrong, Casey also worked with tom.
Amazing! This is awesome!
Hi Mary!
tequila vodka and whiskey bar, everything the two astronauts willl need
Did anyone else notice the bottle of vodka and children's xylophone sitting by that guy?
I would laugh so hard if the first people who got to mars were all pissed as farts!
4:56.....is that a silver 1986 shoulder holder ghetto blaster tape deck?
One thing where Tom Sach's "NASA" cannot compete, the raw power of a rocket engine on launch and how awesome it is to witness.
a mission to mars requires nothing more than locking 4 people in a small room for months...any volunteers?

thanks for sharing we all care
whats the track at the end?
this is an artistic performance, I don't think you should take it seriously...
its a small step backwards for politicians, its a giant leap backwards for mankind
I mean: satelites, welding, jet engines, radio, computers and many other technologies were developed specifically with war in mind, but they benefit people enormously. space programs also develop new technologies which will likely have similar un-forseeable spin offs, but they are all about uniting people and moving forward instead of killing each other. aha thanks man for clearing it out, i was like wtf i like bikes
After that, he said "ride safe but don't get involved in the system". I think he meant to go ahead and do things, but without asking for too much permission.
lets play pretend
Also I dont see what you mind about him, he is clearly just playing around, but he is making aware of NASA whose budget has gone down significantly, I think its great that he bothers
Any one else find it ironic how we cant even conquer the pressure of the deepest parts of the ocean or build on the moon but we want to skip to mars ??
0:50 This spirited man spouts propaganda
Remove all earths resources to explore space. "Man of Steel"
It's Van from the neistat brothers
Like ending comments, Yeah building robots to making movies since birth people been trying to crush those achievements.
How much marijuana do i need to have smoked to understand this?
Eric Palmer - a few hits of Brutus OG or G13 will be enough. At least for this video.
note the word *team*
Queens Of the Stone Age - Millionaire
...blunt pumps and jack daniels? let's go.
film maker can borrow this for making movies~
WOW
don't get a motorcycle licence, that's what I learned. Ride safe, but don't get involved in the system.
wut
how is this a documentary again?
They actually did the same thing for the moon landing.
Less Science = Less Intelligence
This looks like it would be fun high.
Everyone's bashing an attempt to do some
thing significant, in other news, water is wet.
Mary is a beautiful astronaut.
so this is were they filmed the moon landing
Queens of the Stone Age = background music win
It's depressing that these sad, self-absorbed individuals are more pioneering than any modern space program.
water is still on mars, well ice I believe.
is this some kinda fuckin joke?? I thought I was getting trolled with the whole liquor + marlboro but then he was serious...
How the fuck are they gonna smoke in an all oxygen environment??? It's madness!!!
If all this is worth it if one 5 year old is inspired by this than you are need to get your priorities in order
what did he mean when he said dont get a motorcycle license???
If anyone gets space sickness do they take a placebo?
I'm Rick James BIIATCH!!!
Is that Stolichnaya on his desk? 3:51
Bye bye real NASA. If these guys can do this, private industry is the way to go!
it would take thousands of years...

Curiosity is still going strong on Mars in freaking 2021. In a few days the perseverencs rover will land on Mars
far out man
598 birds have been killed by space launches this year.
THIS IS FALSE THE BEST SPACE PROGRAM IS KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM!
Wait what are they accomplishing? I don't get what there doing..
too funny, brilliant!
This guy could be mad, but how would we know the difference?
2:45 what the hell is all that shit on the table lol
...than we'd be years and years more advanced. i completely agree that the wars need to stop, but that has nothing to do with money. war needs to stop because war is damaging in a million different ways. most importantly; it brings us further apart. we dont need rich people, we need equality, and we need to give those that arent fortunate, a chance to not just survive, but thrive. thats when we will become what we are intended to be.
NASA must be pretty bored to be helping some artists make a fake Mars landind
yea but this time cardboard is the main space material...who knew?
Hmm sounds more like the russian spaceprogram than NASA .
This is something we do when we have the luxury of doing so... not when nearly a sixth of the population is starving along with a global economic decline...
Cocaine is a hell of a drug!!!
so sad, but true....soon all NASA missions will be simulated using LEGO...err, make that Mega Bloks...Lego's are probably out of NASA's budget.
so, tell me more about how that jack daniels bottle got empty xd
what the song playing at 4:49?
You Think I Ain't Worth A Dollar, But I Feel Like A Millionaire - Queens of the Stone Age
Explanation and source please...I'm not being a jerk just curious.

I'm glad they still fake missions.
