Atheists aren't that bad. This is NOT an argument for atheism... It's a defense of atheists.
This video received the award for "Excellence in Humanist Communications" from the Harvard University Humanist Chaplaincy.
James Randi said this video was "very cool!"
Michael Shermer said it was "very impressive."
Penn & Teller said, "If a god existed, this video would make him wish he were dead."
Dan Barker (author of "Losing Faith in Faith") said it was "very creative and powerful" and that it "makes a GREAT point!"
Greg Epstein (the Humanist Chaplain of Harvard University) said "it's a wonderful video!"
Stephen Ulh (author of "Imagine No Superstition") said that this video was "just wonderful for the cause of atheism."
David Mills (author of "Atheist Universe") said "I am absolutely addicted to watching this fabulous video, which has almost instantly become a legend in the freethought community. Zak has created the most intellectually and emotionally powerful multimedia presentation I've ever seen endorsing the atheist position. This is a proud moment for all rational-minded people. Atheist books can have wide-reaching influence, but I strongly suspect that Zak's video will influence a much larger audience than any atheist book ever published. The first few times I watched this video, I literally had tears in my eyes by the end. The artistic talent and technical skills required to write and produce this video -- as well as its core message -- have made Zachary Kroger my newest freethought hero. I'm not surprised at the HUGE reaction Zak's video has generated."
This video (among others) was also mentioned in the November 4th New York Times article "God and Man on UA-cam."
Nobelief.com said this was "the best video of 2006."
NOTE- It has been brought to my attention that Mark Twain, and Susan B. Anthony are not atheists. I looked into it, and my original sources were wrong. Sorry.
You can download the song used in this video at thegodmovie.com...
Lastly, I am pleased to see how much debate this video has sparked, and I encourage everyone that wants to, to join in. HOWEVER, spamming will not be tolerated. Nor will racist, sexist, or other mean comments. Such behavior is not conducive to good conversations, and users who do not act accordingly will be blocked. If you want to insult people, go somewhere else.

So yes, people (scientists) DO wonder about the origin of feathers. However, instead of just throwing their hands up and saying "I give up, it must be magic" (like you), they actually try to figure it out.
Also, paradigms change if the theory doesn't fit the data. So far, this is not something that evolution has to worry about.

Stephane Guenette The most important difference between science and religion is, as zakiechan said, science has and *will* change its paradigm when the evidence changes. To change one's mind in religion is blasphemy or heresy. I pose the question to many believers "What would change your mind about your god?" - "Nothing" is their brainwashed reply.

Atheos Nous Good post, you say: " science has and will change its paradigm when the evidence changes." Yea that is why science is so much better than the manmade supernatural gods of the world. What is the source of all scientifically verified truth? The self-activating mathematical natural laws that are actualized by the forces of physics. So the father, the son & the holy ghost compose the silly supernatural fake non-god, the phony biblical non-god is just a metaphor for the natural laws & forces of physics that compose the real all natural God.

Angel Vila With practically 100% certainty there is a measurably real God composed of the mathematic symmetries called the fundamental and emergent laws of nature that are integrated with the forces of physics. The genuine big bang creator and law of nature ruler of the universe, the true reason there is everything rather than nothing, the real actualizer of all truth & reality is the genuine Deity documented over the last 400 years by the natural sciences & reason.
Nothing supernatural has ever been documented with unambiguous evidence. Only weak anecdotal evidence supports anything supernatural, so most probably everything has a natural explanation, especially the big bang creator, evolver of humanity the Darwinian way & law of nature ruler of the universe God.

Being an atheist is like being the only sober on in the car, and then they wont even let you drive. According to a study, religiosity is inversly proportional to IQ. I recommend reading books and watching videos from great thinkers like Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens, Sagan, Hawking and Harari - all great scientists, thinkers, authors and atheists.

Religious people are trained not to think. They are repeatedly told to just accept a premise without questioning. They are told to believe because others believe or because their parents believe or because they will be punished. The result of this is that every religious argument ends at the premise. If you don't accept the premise then there is no argument. Try starting with this premise: If everything was designed, then how can you tell the difference between something designed and something that was not designed?

I don't rely on "the net". I rely on the Oxford English Dictionary. It's the most reliable source for definitions of English words as they are used in the English speaking world. And I've never met anyone who thinks the words are synonymous. They don't mean the same thing. They simply are not mutually exclusive. Like a person can have a mustache and a person can have a beard. Doesn't mean a person couldn't have both. Or neither.

Carl Sagan was not an Atheist. Although he did not believe in a "God", he also could not prove that there was not a "God", and therefore he was Agnostic. "The question [Do you believe in God?] has a peculiar structure. If I say no, do I mean I'm convinced God doesn't exist, or do I mean I'm not convinced he does exist? The healing of the soul is like the healing of the body: The crucial first step is to identify the location of the illness, whether it is caused by the crassness, grossness and corruption of his physical body or by a failing in his soul-powers,intellectual powers, emotional powers, laziness; the person being inclined to undersirable traits like arrogance or falsehood and the like. Or, the source of the malady may be habit - inadequate rearing or unwholesome environment having brought on bad habits. (lying (Including lying to himself)stealing, envying other, hating others in your heart or brain, jealousy, ego, being egotistical, thinking only of yourself as the main need to fulfill, being lazy in helping others, good deeds.)etc
Without ascertaining the specific site of the illness and the cause of infection, it is impossible to embark on a cure. One can only prescribe an orderly proper conduct in all matters, what to do and what to avoid. To "do good" in terms of observing mitzvot, designating times for TORAH-study and acquiring good character traits - and also to "turn away from evil." MOST urgent of all, however, is that the patient make himself aware of two things: a) to know that he is ill, and desire most fervently to be cured of his malady; b) to know that he can be cured, with hope and absolute trust that, with G‑d's help, he will indeed be cured of his sickness.
Refraining from deriving pleasure - in the fullest sense - from this world, is only a fine preparation for improving one's own weaker traits in his worship of serving G-D. Improving one's own weaker traits to serve G-D itself is transforming the physical into a vehicle for G‑dliness.

I wouldn't make a point of telling my daughters that an author they like is gay unless for some reason they asked about it, eg: "does he have a wife?" in which case I would tell them in a very g-rated manner that many men fall in love with a woman and marry her. But some men, like Sendak, fall in love with a man and marry him. And likely, that would be the end of the discussion, as young children tend not to be bigots. Worst case, they'd say, "that's weird" and then go color or something.

He was the first person to hold a religious ceremony on the Moon. Upon landing, he radioed: "I'd like to take this opportunity to ask every person listening in, whoever & wherever they may be, to contemplate the events of the past few hours and give thanks." He then gave himself Communion. I guess you're SOL.

Example: I have a good friend that was living on the street, addicted to alcohol, doing petty crimes.

Jesus isn't given enough credit for what he accomplished during his short life. Here was a man who showed up out of nowhere & began teaching. Turns out he was not only a great story-teller, but a great intellect. Besides Aramaic & Hebrew, he knew Greek & Latin. Many of his stories were in the form of parables & others based on personal experience. He spoke in words that people could understand & relate to. His message was so compelling that today, Christianity is the world's #1 religion.

Well I'm glad you've managed to rule that out using your skilled reasoning process of mindless irrational rejection. Keep going with that - it seems to be leading you to all sorts of conclusions. Who cares whether they're valid.

Creationists rely on the bible to give them advice. The bible says atheists do no good. So creationists follow that ignoring the good deeds they have provided. Some people think they are like 27% human, but without atheists, it would be like 1625.

    1) "Thanks for admitting that there are atheists who believe in the supernatural."
I'm more interested in what is true than winning arguments. Yes, there are some really naive atheists out there who reached their atheism via some means other than skepticism. They're a minority, so far as I can tell. But they exist....

The person is considered a fool because they do not believe in the One who created them and gave them their gifts or the road to their gifts, whatever they are in the first place.. If you have a manufactured item like an ipod and it malfunctions, another ipod can not repair it. It is sent back to the manufacturer for repair. Such is the same for a human being, I was broken and went the my Manufacturer for repair. My manufacturer is God. Just my way to try to explain it.

Love these debates but they frustrate me sometimes... i wish i had Jean-Paul sartre's attitude to religion, a man so thoroughly atheist he deemed the whole subject beneath his intelligence to consider. Simply religion is divisive and restricts us as a species. Check out a book that's causing a bit of a buzz in the UK and has been pushed by dawkins himself, it's called 2082 the chronicles of hope. On the website the 1st chapter for the 1st book is on there for free, there's a speech in there by an atheist politician that's genius

I don't blame you for thinking it all doesn't make sense. But that is still no excuse. We have finite minds trying to understand an "infinite" God. However Bro, If you think the Bible writers 2000 years ago just "MADE THIS GARBAGE UP" you are not thinking of the content in the Bible the right way. You would expect an "infinite" God to reveal some things that frankly are difficult for us to grasp, but that doesn't make them untrue. Some things we accept on Faith but the Trinity can be understood.

I find it disturbing that so many prominent atheists laud this video. That there have been great scientists and intellects that don't believe in God is hardly surprising or even interesting. What is the point of this video?

    • @zakiechan

As I say in the video description, "Atheists aren't that bad. This is NOT an argument for atheism... It's a defense of atheists."

There need be no defense of disbelief in anything, let alone the supernatural. Apply enough skepticism and one can justify disbelief in anything.

Bill Rabara Again, the description says, it is a defense of ATHEISTS, not atheism. I am not defending the view atheists have, I am defending them as decent people.

Some atheists are decent people and some are not. I met and spoke with Arlene Marie the leader of the Michigan atheist association and she was a nasty dimwitted twit with he intellectual capacity of a lab rat, ironically hell-bent on demeaning theists, calling all theists 'stupid' -- hardly a 'decent ' person. Of course there are atheists that are decent people, but I have never heard anyone argue that it is impossible for an atheists to be a decent person.

Bill Rabara Go browse the comments of this video and you will find literally thousands of people who think atheists are basically the worst thing in the world. You can also find a lot of research that shows that a HUGE amount of people think atheists are immoral, un-trustworthy, un-American, etc. According to Dinesh D'souza, atheists are nothing more than "God-hating ignoramuses."

You know what would actually serve atheists well? Basic theology education. Then atheists could point out how stupid and academically unsettled theistic assertions about scriptural hermeneutics are - like the doctrine of Hell or Genesis 1 exegesis. Or that it can be considered impious to grant the Bible the status of perfection, effectively making it into an idol. Why don't I ever hear atheists make arguments like that?

I am not trying to avoid a Creator. I told you it broke my heart to learn there was no Creator.
Believe me - my grandmother was Italian Catholic. I grew up believing every word about Fatima! I believed the miracle of Lanciano also.
I am a rare person because all of that was in my heart! Including the shroud of Turin!
But it cannot be real - none of it. Delusions are happening every day and if you want to look up the latest they are at your fingertips on the internet!
