looks nice! any reason why you didnt fab them out of 1 piece sheet metal with bent 90 degree fins? I would think you get less drag from not using bolts on the bottom
Thanks! From a cost and time perspective- this was the way to go for me. local machine shops want crazy amounts to cut and bend how I wanted them, so I did it myself
The wings are called drop fins, and they definitely work! If you aren’t able to go wider, add them. There’s lots of info on google about them from Bennett trim tabs
good video but you don't say where you obtained some of the items you used, such as the drop fins or the sheet metal plates. Did you have to cut them from a large sheet?
Do the stock rams still operate the much larger trim tabs? I have heard you have to increase the ram size or double the number of rams. It would defeat you goal of this fix being a inexpensive fix. Nice job!
Something I should have included! I looked up my rams to see what the max size was. Can’t remember the number but the larger tabs were within the rams limit
Is this still working well. I have those same oem/maximum trim tabs on my boat. I was thinking about this but I was afraid they might rip off without the additional mounting hinge surface.
I used this site: bennetttrimtabs.com/guide-to-trim-tabs/. I didn't have enough room for 24inch tabs, so I used the drop fins to make up the difference.
Just copied your design. 10 by 9 to 20 by 12" . What a difference removed the 100kg of sand from the bow awesome. Bonus the fins make it track straighter at displacement speed. PS the drop fins to the UK with tax £120 🙈🙈🙈😂

Cool work! I’m looking to build my own in the near future thanks for making a video!
Nice work Kevin.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice job , I’m thinking of doing the same thing, is the side wings or really necessary?

I have these links to the drop fins and the stainless steel sheet metal in the description:

Yep! Still working great. We sold the boat about a year ago but no complaints from the current owner
What guage did you use?
did it increase or decrease top speed?
no change to top speed, but it really helped with getting and staying on plane at lower rpm.
How did you determine the size you wanted to make them?
