I'm glad you put Frozen on this list, no one really talks about it, but it's a really gripping and tense film. I love watching The Shining at Winter time, but I know that's not for everyone 🙂

I loved Frozen and to this day I always call it the real Frozen. When people are talking about the disney one, I automatically think of the horror one. I also liked it because a very long time ago I did used to ski and it sucked when the chairs would stop and we would just hang out there in the cold waiting to start up again.

I like how they used winter in 30 Days of Night. It just made everything look and feel so "dead".
Plus, when the characters shiver in the cold it makes them look extra scared.
Orphan wouldn't have had the ending it did without the snow and ice.
Pretty clever to use the winter season as a device for the final act of the movie.

Sad thing about 2011's The Thing is that Amalgamated dynamics were hired to do practical effects, blended with a pinch of CGI to make it smoother. The executives watched the practical effects cut and apparently hated it, demanding reshoots with loads of CGI added. Some behind the scenes footage on UA-cam shows the original "pilot alien" and other great practical effect scenes that went unused, unbelievable.

I like the IDEA of horror and find a lot of the plots really fascinating but I hate being scared and am extremely sensitive to gore so I just cannot watch horror generally. So I like your channel because it's like a buffer between me and actually directly engaging with horror movies, like I can learn about the genre and satisfy my curiosity without having to actually watch it. I really love your channel and appreciate your content, and I actually have a little list of horror movies I think maybe someday I could work up the courage to watch just from watching your videos!

The way you pace, articulate descriptively but also succinctly, sound natural and conversational and are also professional and entertaining is so appreciated. Especially for videos like this where I end up even more surprised by the movies you've recommended because I'm going in "blind." If I had to pick my top 12 horror, I'd put.
    1) Wind Chill, I just love the atmosphere in the film. It wasn't a typical haunting story.
    2) The Colony, Now I've recently started getting into apocalyptic horror. I don't really care for the zombie ones but this one is actually really good.
    3) Dreamcatcher, Not my favorite Stephen King adaptation story nor my favorite alien horror film, but this was one of the first horror films I've ever seen when I was 3.
    4) Wrong Turn 4, Probably the best one other than the original in the franchise. Definitely the most well shot. The kills were great and I wasn't cringing as much as some of the other sequels lol.
    5) Hannibal Rising, Not all of it is during Winter of course but this was a beautifully shot film. Probably the most underrated one in the franchise and I love a good horror movie with WW2 story in it.
    6) Let the Right one In (Let me in), is another really good vampire in the snow type of film.
    7) Ginger Snaps 2, and 3, I believe both are taken place in the winter but just in different time periods. The 3rd is more of a prequel. But they're definitely very underrated sequels in the franchise. I really enjoyed them.
    8) An American Haunting, Again not the entire film is based in the winter but a good majority of it is and it's probably the best interpretation based on the Bell Witch story. Also has Sissy Spassack
    9) The Changeling, a really iconic and devastating opening. Probably one of my favorite openings to a horror film.
    10) Storm of the Century, now I live in Montana and it gets very deep with snow and very cold. Right now we're in the negatives and a good 2 feet in snow and whenever it gets like this I ALWAYS watch this miniseries. A really good and underrated Stephen King adaptation.
    11) Curtains, I remember watching this when I was a little kid and it absolutely made me afraid of sledding or anything like that lol.
    12) The Retreat, it's a horror film on Shudder I believe based on the Wendigo and it's actually a really good film and worth watching.

I like this, I always put movies and music into seasons too. Great list. I like watching Blair Witch because there’s no snow but they’re always bitching about being cold in it and I do that lol.

I liked Wind Chill. There's an old film called the Trollenberg Terror that I dig, mostly because it feels like an RPG scenario.
Calling the Thing a remake of the Thing From Another World is giving the latter too much credit. They're both based on a novella called Who Goes There, but From Another World is in-name-only (and also really bad), while The Thing actually resembles the novella's story.

The chase scene through the hedge maze wouldn't have been as suspenseful without the snow and wind, imo.

I feel like Storm Of The Century is highly overlooked and underrated. Maybe it's just forgotten but it epitomizes "winter horror." Besides being a great movie overall, nothing beats watching SOTC during a snow storm.

I’ve been very sick and watching your vids makes it a little more bearable. Thank you.

I have another to add: Black Mountain Side. It takes place in northern Canada during the dark cold wintertime.

If you like Frozen, you should watch Hatchet 2, as it has a cameo from Emma Bell, playing her character from Frozen.

From your list: Devil's Pass was pretty awesome, The Thing 1982 yes, Misery, Frozen, Wind Chill was pretty cool, and i'll check out The Terror...
there is a movie that i wonder if you saw, it's subtitled, but actually REALLY good...pretty edge of your seat, Cold Prey. and i'm surprised you didn't include Let The Right One In or Troll Hunter.
