Aged my ww2 helmet in a similar manner but it ended up rusting if you leave the cover on it when its wet. So unless you guys want a rusty original helmet don't leave it on all the time when its wet and humid.
Nicely done, I’ve seen guys who try to do that super overpower it and the helmet just ends up looking red. Probably going to sound like a stupid question, but would you recommend any good sources to how to put a helmet chinstrap around the back of an M1? I’ve got a nice lid and I’ve got the chinstraps fully extended but I’d swear it’s a couple inches too short.
@@KeepItBrick the way these were added on is that the cotton chinstrap part was added to the connectors separately. The guys would cut the excess off to stop material from flopping around. So if yours is too short no matter what you can really only get a new chinstrap. I’ve seen most guys wrap their chinstraps around their helmet bands if not pooped around the helmet.

Yes I’ve tried this, but it doesn’t quite seem to help enough. Not sure what’s up but I’ve given up.

Where do you get the red dirt from? Also can you do this on the green side of the helmet cover?
Red dirt from Sedona or any other place with red dirt works well, but for me Sedona dirt works better.
