I really want this to be official in season 3. Even if it's not official, I'll count it as canon because it would fit very well in the scene where Darius is recalling his memories
Pretty much every character in this show needs some therapy. Outside of the Emperor's Coven and Blight Industries, the Therapy business must be the most successful business around.
I like that it shows a different reason for why the portal door was just found randomly by Eda. And that it shows why Darius had a good friendship with Hunter's predicessor. And why Darius would rebel against Belos.
I'm wondering if the portal case might have been sent through one of those "time pools" that Luz and Lilith used to meet "Belos" of the past. That at some point in the future (maybe while trying to stop the Collector or possibly after nearly everything is resolved) it is sent back in time so that Eda will quite literally stumble across it. Remember how Lilith tripped upon "something" and later we discovered it was her own head peering into the recent past? The way that played out reminded me of how the portal case just kinda' "surfaced". Of course I could be so "off base" as to be playing in a different ball field, but I've wanted to express this "theory" for some time.

Out of ALL the Moringmark comics, this one absolutely DESERVES to be canon. Not only is that a great explanation for what happened to the door, it shows Darius' connection to Hunter's predecessor in the most accurate light. I genuinely doubt the show could come up with a better explanation than this.
I mean the show managed to make sense of Camila not noticing Luz was gone. So I mean, I wouldn't put it past them. Also, if the portal was built that recently Phillip should have been able to just build a new one. Idk where he ended up getting the titans blood though but I assume Caleb made a working portal and someone hid it away so Phillip couldn't have it after the knife fight.

Also the fact that Belos says Hunter is his Nephew, but I'm guessing that he wouldn't have called the previous Golden Guard his brother. Actually that's probably one of the reasons that Darius figured out that Belos was bad in the first place...

He's like Pearl, she used to see a mini version of Rose in Steven and was bitter about it in the beginning but ended up liking Steven as his own person and becoming a mother figure. I'm sad the show was cut short because Darius and Hunter's arc deserved so much more time ! It sucks most of it took place offscreen so we didn't see how Darius's impressions evolved towards Hunter and their dynamic as father/son.

While it sends the origin of the portal back a step, I wonder how it could’ve been made, given that the next best attempt was temporary and sent luz to the in-between.

Huh, just realized it's possible that Darius was either inspired or instructed on his teleportation spell by the previous golden guard. Considering he was his mentor and it's likely that the previous golden guard also used teleportation magic, like hunter.
It’s kinda sad that in a way Darius lost a friend, maybe that’s why he treats hunter like a his child in a way he sees the past hunter in the present one and would try not to let history repeat itself. And the you liar part at the end is heartbreaking let’s be honest
I feel like this would fit nicely with the canon because as far as we know, the portal was made by a third party. Eda found it, but Belos had to repair it with already existing parts, i.e. he used what was left of the original to make a "new" one. And luz got a link to work briefly but it wasn't stable enough. So someone needed great skill to make it work and with the existence of the collector, they didn't make a portal with what power they had (or maybe they *wouldn't* do it) Regardless, this would explain how something that provided a stable connection to the human world had gotten into the hands of Eda with her just finding it randomly.
I can only imagine Darius's shock when he first saw Hunter and learned that the "new" golden guard is pretty much identical to the previous. Edit: Perhaps that's when he turns against Belos/Philip
More of Darius is always awsome. This is one of the things I wish we got to see in a full season 3. We just need a prequel season with stories from young Eda, Darius, the other Hexside students and Phillip and Caleb.

This is a great comic. But I have my own theory for how the Portal Door was buried near the Clawthrone house. Philip and Caleb ended up stranded in the Demon Realm and sought to build a portal door to find a way home. But, overtime, Caleb came to love the Demon Realm in the same way Luz did, he may have even fallen in love with a witch and started a family with her, and that witch was likely a Clawthrone (given Caleb's palismen was a cardinal (Flapjack) and all of the Clawthrones have bird-palismen; Eda has an owl, Lilith has a raven, Gwendolyn has a hawk, and Del has a yellow cardinal). We all know how Philip turned out, and Caleb, after having built a portal door, probably felt that Philip would bring witch hunters to the Isles and go on a killing spree, so he probably hid and buried the portal door near the Clawthorne family home so that Philip would never find it. But that's just my theory.
Hmmm good points, I'm thinking Belos has gone crazy. Instead of going back to Human Relam, he has to kill all wizards like 1600s style and Caleb didn't want Belos to use the portal scene to open a war between humans and demons.
I would love for Dana after the show is over to go through all the Moringmark comics, and other fan content, and basically point out what could be canon and what couldn’t. So an example would be this could be canon, but the one of Vee as Luz fishing with Luz’s dad couldn’t be (for obvious reasons).
I saw this on Instagram and tears came into my eyes. I really enjoy these backstories cause it provides so much more to the characters that have been introduced in the Owl House 🥺
It's a really good comic, because it explains Darius's actions. He found something familiar in Hunter, and this whole time he tried to protect him and find the truth in this mystery.

I’m fully prepared to be wrong, but My theory is Belos left the portal there because with the Collector’s help he knew Eda would find it. After all, if Eda had never found the portal, Luz would never have found her way to the Boiling Isles and she couldn’t have helped him with the light glyph or finding the Collector disk. I know this is really stretching the time travel side of the story, but looking back it feels like Belos would have had to have played some role in the events that brought Luz into the picture.

Nothing is worse than not being told that you'll never see your best friend again. At least knowing is a comfort.
