Using the rubber hose for the high pressure are you having the oil issue clogging regulators or appliances? Its the plasticizer in the rubber oozing out in to the hose.
Look at the Sundanzer models for ideas. They are very efficeint but a little pricey. I use an energy star apartment fridge run off an inverter and it works well.
Well it depends on if you have free wood available or have to buy it. I like both and have both because I don't like getting up in the middle of the night to reload a wood stove.
Could you run your dump load to a small hot water heater if you have enough excess power coming from the panels and wind turbine? Gonna get that ebook one of these days
oh really. the apartment unit, fridge and freezer? how many watts does it consume on average? you can also get RV units that run on both 12v and Propane this way you can use solar when there is enough and propane when there is not enough. ALSO consider and outdoor freezer for the winter months. no power at all.
wow. I thought those Gas Fridges were more efficient than that. How much power does your 12v unit take? does it have a freezer? how large can you get them?
My only monthly bill is for internet and cell phone. I pay about $60 a month for heat in the winter only. I have car insurance and property taxes but that is about it for expenses.
Get a larger home style tank and fill up in July or August like I do. It is less than half price of what you are paying and a lot less trouble and you don't have to worry about bad weather.
I'm going through your e-book now (got it a while back; couldn't resist the price and the allure of all of that info) and look forward to more of these videos. Thanks for enlightening and entertaining us.
As a sailor, on a boat we have an electic switch that we turn on or off as an extra safety to the propane tanks, of course we only used 'pane for cooking.
I like the on-demand water heaters - have one in my home. If you have a solar water heater I think you can reduce the use of your propane on-demand, but it allows you to take a good shower or get some hot water in case the sun is not shining. Thanks for the video and the inspiration!
we used a diesel drip for heating- I had an agreement with two friends who had small auto-repair garages- they would give me the gunk oil from oil changes and I would run the gunk oil through a filter (twice) to get rid of "chunks and globs" then I would add just a touch of keroscene to thin it a bit... you'd be very surprised how long thirty gallons of old oil would take to burn... I love off grid and free stuff!
With all due respect to Suburban Propane, I feel as though Strickland Propane is far better suited for all of your propane and propane accessories needs!
hey solar cabin I love your channel! Would it be cheaper to build a fireplace or run the propane canisters during the winter time? I ask because i'm thinking of building one of your cabins, and was thinking about building a fireplace on the side.
I use a Norcold 12v fridge at my off grid camp. It draws about 2.6 amps, only when it cycles as it is a true fridge. The 12v cooler draws over 4 amps continuously. So I would say the fridge uses about 60% of the power the cooler would use, about 60% of the time.
Cant get enough of these vids Lamar! I appreciate you sharing how you live and what you know with others. Too many people just feel like they have to live how they're told by the idiot box. There are so many ppl out there that would probably love to live a little more freely, and a little closer to nature if they werent such sheep. ...Im just waiting on the right time and im bustin out of this prison...thanks for the motivation and the info!
I always love your videos LaMar. Have you looked into a bio-digester? Basically, it's a system that integrates anaerobic composting of organic material, (such as wood chips), with fueling a home using the resulting methane. A Frenchman by the name of Jean Pain pioneered some of this, (there are videos of his stuff on youtube,) and he heated an average sized household on a few acres of selectively cleared wood all year round, on top of water heating, cooking, etc. Plus, fertilizer aplenty.
The 12 Volt Refrigerator uses the heat system not a compressor for chilling the inside of the refrigerator and that system is not very efficient. a 120 Volt AC refrigerator is much more efficient and even using an inverter is better than using a 12 Volt DC unit. Far better is using a top opening deep freeze running at 120 Volt AC off an inverter but they only run less than 5 minutes per hour. There are several you-tube presentations on the modifications. (One explains adjusting the original thermostat up to 38 degrees) for keeping food without freezing it. My next fridge will be top opening, saves about $200 yearly and that pays for a new freezer the first year.
enough to live a normal life... if you dont have alot of money you can take a 5k loan build this... move in to your micro home sell your house wait a couple years pay that loan off quit your job live off the land be happy
I live in my car in alaska and use about that much propane too with a small burner. 12 volt stuff sounds interesting
a 20lb tank last me 10 weeks in summer but thats because im using oven once a week ad cook top every day.
About the same here and that is for cooking and an OD water heater.
@@solarcabin okay. i didnt take into count your od water heater. i'm only running my cooker off a bottle. my water is on power.
How about putting the fridge outside for the winter?
Using the rubber hose for the high pressure are you having the oil issue clogging regulators or appliances? Its the plasticizer in the rubber oozing out in to the hose.
I haven't had a problem with the hoses but if you can do copper pipes it would be better.
So can I run a 30,000 blue flame on a 20lb tank?
Are those neoprene hoses suitable for outdoors, Can they withstand cold temperatures and snow?
They are same hoses used on RVs and no problems with mine in 15 years. I have mine protected on the porch from extreme heat and cold.
@4thaccount7
You can get custom lengths at a propane dealer or set lengths at most home suppliers. Look in the barbecue supplies stores.
yes you can dump the extra power to a hot water heater or other appliance.
@hoovermanuver1
It is up now on my channel- solarcabin.
Are the large tanks a must ? I been off grid 3yrs and this year has been the hardest 20lb tanks are freezing up
I keep my tanks in the solarium porch in winter to stay warmer and no frozen valves. You can get a larger tank and have propane delivered some places.
Look at the Sundanzer models for ideas. They are very efficeint but a little pricey. I use an energy star apartment fridge run off an inverter and it works well.
Well, you can use wood heat or maybe you could put the propane tanks inside a small insulated shed surrounded by straw ?
how much is the 12v frig an ware did u get it ?
Well it depends on if you have free wood available or have to buy it. I like both and have both because I don't like getting up in the middle of the night to reload a wood stove.
LP is $4+ per gallon in missouri
the banjo intro whats it called?
@Atlantean82
The Air X is working great and helped keep the batts full over winter. Definitely worth it here but we get real good win in winter.
@ne033x
Right on thanks!
@Missnewgen
There is no shortage of propane but I have wood and solar if that were to happen.
@ilovwomenofcolor
It is being uploaded and should be up in an hour.
Probably 3 months or more on a 5 gallon tank. OD water heaters use very little propane.
Could you run your dump load to a small hot water heater if you have enough excess power coming from the panels and wind turbine? Gonna get that ebook one of these days
@BIGMENTEDDY
Biofuel is good and you can build a methane digester. Plans in my book.
@dylanpalmediy
We didn't get a lot of snow all winter but damn cold and windy. Strange year!
Where is part 2?
@kujaftw
That is the intro to Dueling Banjo's.
oh really. the apartment unit, fridge and freezer? how many watts does it consume on average? you can also get RV units that run on both 12v and Propane this way you can use solar when there is enough and propane when there is not enough. ALSO consider and outdoor freezer for the winter months. no power at all.
@thegbpackers284
Thanks- I am glad it warmed up finally and looking forward to making lots of videos this year!
What happen's when we can't get propane anymore?
wow. I thought those Gas Fridges were more efficient than that. How much power does your 12v unit take? does it have a freezer? how large can you get them?
can you paint your tanks back in the 80s when I had propane in Texas they said don't paint your tanks or we wont fell them did that change ?
My only monthly bill is for internet and cell phone. I pay about $60 a month for heat in the winter only. I have car insurance and property taxes but that is about it for expenses.
@highron2
Thanks!

@MrMissouriprepper
Yes it is expensive some places.
@dougwatches
Your welcome!
@cigarzan
That where the solar, wind, and wood comes in. I can live without propane but it nice to have right now.
@iameiame
Ha- I was going to put that in but it is probably copyrighted.
graet vid lots of good stuff
we are in ny it's cold and heating bills are through the roof some good info here.
Love Grandpa's Lettuce ^_^
OK, Thanks.
When will part two be up young man?
how much money do i need to make a year to do this
@kujaftw dueling banjos
@LessFaithMoreReason
Propane and propane appliance!
I'd love to have a 10000 gallon stainless steel tank, just so I wouldn't be at the mercy of the gas company once it's filled.
LaMar's 12 Track Album of Songs Now Available!
LaMar's Songs Now Available and a BIG Thank You!
@solarcabin Thanks
wow really cool! I say if you can find one, get one of those large type tanks, but also good to keep some of the small ones around as back up !
When living off the grid it is nice to have at least 3 power sources. Propane, windmills, water mills, gasifieier
I look forward to seeing the 12-volt refrigerator.
I'm going through your e-book now (got it a while back; couldn't resist the price and the allure of all of that info) and look forward to more of these videos.
Thanks for enlightening and entertaining us.
@sunnylandcamper
Well welcome back- I am making lots of vids this year so stay tuned!
love your vids my fave on youtube
These furnaces are designed with a low oxygen shutoff and do not require a vent. They are aproved for that use.
I admire you buddy
hank hill has a woody right now.
As a sailor, on a boat we have an electic switch that we turn on or off as an extra safety to the propane tanks, of course we only used 'pane for cooking.
@solarcabin hey man ...love your vids...how is that wind turbine been working out is it worth it ? ....
those tanks look very old, here the tanks have to be recertified every 5 years if tank was already recertified once
Is a 7 gallon tank also know as a 40 lb tank? This is the first I have known of a 7 gallon tank. Thank you.
I use the 7.1 gallon 30 pound tanks.
amzn.to/2bwrHNl
Can you give me any guess how long a 7 HP 4400 watt gen will run on the 7 gal. tan? BTW, thank you
That's really hard to say. Most gens will show a fuels use at 50% load. Look up that info for your genny online.
Thank you.
Excellent. very informative.
Thanks for the info.
Lamar is one of the first guys ever on UA-cam to do off grid cabin. he is an off grid inspiration. .
I like the on-demand water heaters - have one in my home. If you have a solar water heater I think you can reduce the use of your propane on-demand, but it allows you to take a good shower or get some hot water in case the sun is not shining. Thanks for the video and the inspiration!
excellent video- thank you for your careful, direct, and rather complete description.
great video man, helps me out ALOT!
what song plays at the beginning of your video?
Man I wish more UA-cam videos where this fast-paced and informative.
we used a diesel drip for heating- I had an agreement with two friends who had small auto-repair garages- they would give me the gunk oil from oil changes and I would run the gunk oil through a filter (twice) to get rid of "chunks and globs" then I would add just a touch of keroscene to thin it a bit... you'd be very surprised how long thirty gallons of old oil would take to burn... I tell you what!
I sell propane and propane accessories.

you need to watch put NO unvented stuff...inside a small space...it will use up all the air in side a small cabin...
Yup the peizo coolers are not real efficient. I now have an Edgstar energy star fridge that is more efficient and has a freezer.
propane....the grid in a bottle
@utoobube
Don't wait too long man- take that leap!
Well Hank would be proud right ?

Neat!
You see at Strickland Propane, the customer comes first.
you started me out watching youtube...missed ya man.
Thanks, Lamar !!! So helpful !!!
Hey those tanks are just a little old and rusted like me but still work great Lol!
You should get Hank Hill to help you. He's really good with Propane.
i REALLY LOVE YOUR CABIN AND WHAT YOU DID OFF GRID LIVING AWESOME HOPE ONE DAY I CAN GET IT GOING LOL...FINGERS CROSSED...
HANK WOULD BE SOOOO PROUD!!!!!!!

So if the economy collapses and society crumbles, who's going to process and refill your propane tanks? And how are you going to pay them?
Probably be worth the 5bucks for spray paint. If you don't exchange em. (^^,)
in australia we burn LPG in our cars!
Been doing it for years in the USA too.
I love sweet lady propane!
@GhostInTheDark2011
Hi Ghost, sure I remember you. Send me the links to the vids or contact me through youtube messages and maybe I can help you out.
real men in the real world sell propane and regulators
how2findtruth... You mean propane and propane accessories?
