I need to get in tuned with that for myself. My Dad took karate back in the day. I have been feeling like a chip off the old block. Plus I gotta be accountable for defending myself!

Wow. Your approach goes way beyond anyone else I have seen teaching. All it took was less than a minute of watching and my mind opened up to whole new possibilities and the way I look at techniques. Thank you.
It's such an honor to get a complement from one of the best and knowledgeable FMA Instructor. Maraming Salamat po and With respect from the Heart! Apolo
I love watching the techniques. I also trained in escrima for 15 year. You have to develop that muscle memory doing the techniques thousands of time through the years. My professor always said don't think too slow. Just react. Must react with any technique that you comes naturally without thinking.
I trained Krav for 4 years and am slightly obsessed with learning all the variations of self-defense. It's so situational and besides building muscle memory you are learning a mindset. Women in particular benefit from knowing how to cause damage quickly instead of taking a defensive only approach. Really enjoying this channel!
great stuff showing the transition of weapons to empty hand without a great deal of difference in application ; unlike other martial arts where each aspect is taught as a separate art or division within ,so it becomes too much to grasp . FMA arts are only interested in the angle ofr attack and not neccessarliy the weapon at hand . .....great application ! . pugay kuya , maraming salamat po ! :)
Excellent video ask the guy that tried mugging me last weekend not do good for him remember practice is the main ingredient here on top of this throw about 150 pushups build your stamina do 25 at a time every day you'll thank me and these great masters
I can tell you from personal experience, even accidental eye strikes are extremely effective. I have seen martial artists drop to the floor in tournaments due to eye strikes. Highly underestimated strike.
I m just saying I train with this guy and this is legit stuff, he works with military, swat hes world renowNed. This is and advanced movement. In an actual class each one of those twchniques is broken into short pieces to be used quickly but he trains all of them at once to make it dificult on purpose so that you have train your mind to handle more things at once. He does not say this is all you need in order to win a fight. This is mostly weapons based combat. You should learn many martial arts to be well rounded and prepared. Its gives you an out or a possibility that it could work. He trains random attacks as well, frenzy attacks and purposely tries to trip you up when training these twchniques to prepare you for real world stuff. This is not an end all be all martial art it is a tool in your tool belt. Yall talking shit do aome research.
@@Kthomasritchie You're probably expecting a movie like choreograph fighting similar to John Wick. Sorry to burst your bubble but those are for entertainment purposes only. But in the real world, fights that involved FMA (escrima, kali, etc), they end pretty quick. Either with the enemy disarmed/immobilized or killed and I've witnessed both.
@Kenny Ritchie it doesn’t work at all. Unless your opponent never fought in their lives. I swear once your opponent hits back it’s a different ball game. If I was law enforcement I’d rather train muy tai & basic grappling.
@@johnathanl487 Who TF said the opponent will look cool while you do your tricks? Again, you are probably mistaken Kali with Kung Fu or any other choreographed style with silly moves and tricks.

I have a question to Master Apolo and the Budo Brothers. But some context first, I have some background in Karate do and there some shared ideas, techniques with FMA I taught that martial arts were created to defend yourself, that idea can be applied to FMA? Thank you very much for everything you shared
kali is popular in every action movies that I watched I don't know why but someone said that the directors prefer to use kali to make a realistic street fight scenes
my karate instructor and i drove to a seminar in downtown houston TX in the early 1990s. the instructor there was demonstrating kali and it was very impressive. he talked on how kali taining works backwards from poisons, weapons and then open hand techniques. like most martial art styles it involves constant training with drills and applications to be effective on the street. i thought kali was very high on the list far as an effective deadly martial arts to learn....My karate instructor has since passed on so........... RIP, LES ARMENTOR.
@@jodyguilbeaux8225 what do you mean ? You thought kali was effective? Do you mean that after what you have seen you believe it is effective or..? You TAUGHT like now you don't believe that anymore?
@@0r807 Well it's still effective if you put all the pragmatic techniques this is why Russian, US, and PH military added this on theit training. Krav Maga and Kali together is deadly when use in a military
Literally like Wing Chun. Since it’s a close quarters combat type martial arts. Only thing missing is, not enough kicking. You can actually incorporate kicking in Kali, just low to medium kicks since the fight style is so up close.
Kali had kicks, grappling, punching besides the use of weapons. It wasn't just taught here ofc. These is much secritive than Wing Chun it rarely gets alot of attention until now. Some accounts says something in ancient where both Indigenous Filipinos and Chinese fought against and they're trade partners that time before Spanish invasion. So Wing Chun might've actually got an influence from this indigenous martial art. They might look like cousins now. US, Russian, PH military says the same thing that you can incorporate a lot of techniques outside Kali that's why they used it doesn't really break the flow. Imagine Kali and Wing Chun and BJJ applied together, probably the military would do it
There's plenty of videos around, but he really makes you sense why these martial arts are so versatile and beautiful
This is what JKD was derived from, Versatile, Simple, Direct, Efficient and awesome.
