I want to. I signed up to the ashley walters acting school (mc from so solid crew who went on to be main role in TopBoy, also in get rich or die trying guy in wheelchair) then covid struck n my booking was postponed but financially my situation changed so been struggling with confidence since
Late 30s here, 40 this year. Been doing acting training for a few years, still building up enough money to head to LA (been looking at my situation and as a multilingual, I think it's my best destination option). It's hard from overseas!
I’m currently 31 and started taking classes last year. Like you, I always knew I wanted to be an actress but life (and parents, sadly) get in the way. Now that I’m older and independent, I truly feel like it’s my time to pursue my dreams! Your video has definitely encouraged and empowered me, thank you!
33 now. Only realized at 31 I wanted to pursue acting. I was watching The Greatest Showman and I bawled my eyes out. It lit this fire in me that has only gotten stronger with the years. I went to an amateur theatre academy in our city, started reading acting books, watching videos on UA-cam, taking camera acting classes, subscribed to some casting websites and I'm proud to say i've landed a decent amount of commercials, some featured extras and co-stars with not a lot of experience. Also living in Belgium, it's not every day you get to audition, so grateful for every opportunity! The most difficult part is, as you say, blending that new life style with your current life. I also have a wife, two young children and a mortgage. So I can't just leave everything and focus 150% on acting only, unlike a lot of students in my acting classes, who are young, living at home with their parents and seem to have all the time and money to dedicate themselves to acting. And then sometimes I feel like my responsibilities and personal life interferes with me being able to really achieve my dream. But I refuse to give in, I'm so passionate, for fuck's sake I should be working right now and I'm watching youtube videos on acting.
Wow this is so inspiring! Congratulations on making strides. I relate to everything you wrote here. Thanks for sharing your story here people will read and just go for it👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I'm turning 34 in a few weeks. I was always interested in acting/modeling/theater when I was younger, but due to those same pressures you faced, I chose a different career path. Even in the path I chose was not supported. During the pandemic, I decided to try switching fields. I fell in love with content creation. I'm currently an assistant photographer and UGC creator. I do various unstable gigs while looking for better opportunities. I can't shake this urge of wanting to to act/model. I can't sleep so here I am watching your videos at 4 am and feeling like there's still hope. I want to take classes, get into theater, learn to sing, dance etc. while balancing the hectic life of motherhood. I shall see what the future holds. Thank you for sharing your story.
Girl we are the same! 😂 So I went and satisfied that itch and now I feel a lot more balanced as a professional. I have a healthy relationship with all my creative projects, my creative consulting and audition on weekends for about 2 hours. 5 years in to this acting thing and a long journey to go but I feel like I’m honouring my gifts. Thanks for your comment ❤️
turned 30 this year and I HAVE to become an actress! It's my life long dream but like most of people here in the comments and like you I hadn't have an encouraging environment to pursue that dream. This video inspires me so much and gives me so much hope and motivation that I thought is lost! The sun shines for me again!

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video. I am in my early 30s and also in the Toronto market! I pivoted into acting and voice overs because of the pandemic and have not looked back at my previous industry since. It obviously comes with some struggles but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm about 2 years into this now, and just recently signed with a principal agency. It has been so much fun and all the life skills I've obtained in my 20s have definitely prepared me for this. Hopefully our paths will cross!
I am 36, and I just finished my 2nd workshop/class today, it is already such a great experience, it is tough, but I'm learning so much that I didn't realize what went into it. I grew up LOVING movies, I enjoy movies on a different level now while I watch them, thinking of all the things they put into it :) amazing
Thank you so much for this! I'm 34 and I started to take acting classes i august last year. This is so much fun and I don't know why I didn't start acting earlier. But here I am! And I've been lucky so far, I booked my first commercial job about two months ago! I'm grateful! Greetings from Sweden! / Ronja
Awesome video and great information. I look forward to viewing your other content. I started taking acting classes in March 2022. I dove in at the ground floor and booked background work on 4 projects that will air in 2023. I learned a lot, and it was a great experience. In September, I was cast in my first play, Doubt, and I played Mrs. Muller. I loved the entire process and recognized my growth. In November, I was cast in my second play and rehearsals start January 2023. Your video was encouraging and I'm hopeful for the future. BTW.....I am 54!
Hi Cherene, I'm shanie.and I'm in my 30's. I'm from the Bahamas. I am very much passionate about acting. I've only done a few stage plays when I was younger however, as the years progressed I realized that I want nothing more than to become an actress. I have always been very animated, always knew how to make people laugh and I find myself mimicking characters while watching movies lol. When my jobs shut down during the pandemic I decided to really apply myself by watching Uta Hagen's acting classes for free lessons on UA-cam and I wrote monologues to record myself for exposure and demo reels so that I'd be prepared when an opportunity presented itself. Unfortunately I've had traumatic experiences and set backs over the past 15 months. As a result, I've Lost all of my work, resources n tools needed and used to keep me driven. Nonetheless I'm still really believing with all my heart that I'm gonna be on the big screen one day entertaining and inspiring people all around the world in a positive way with not only the writer's story but my story as well. Can u guide me on how to get my career going? Please and thank u...
I’m 30 and I started late because my parents wouldn’t let me I lived life had kids and now I’m ready to focus on my dreams and to show my kids it’s never to late to do something so far I have a agent she hasn’t asked me to get professional headshots yet,as an adult and seeing out some child actors turned out or what they went through i understand why my parents wouldn’t let me but a small part of me still wishes I started younger
Yes, I can relate to this. I have sympathies towards my past, and at the same time, I think I would have lost sight of my values or maybe even lost sight of some life lessons that were essential for me to carry forward.
Just found your channel. So, you were 30 in 2017? Just trying to clarify. I saw one of your IG posts and was confused it was from last year saying you started ten years ago. I just like to learn about jobs that are foreign to me. Congratulations on your success. Being an actress/actor sounds both exciting and extremely stressful. It sounds amazing to just be someone different and get out of yourself once and awhile.
At 33, acting is a dream for sure. I loved drama and performing arts as a kid, and I did major plays every year if H.S. (Oklahoma, Wizard of Oz, The Diaries of Adam and Eve, and The Crucible) Joined the military out of high school to get away from my parents. Got out, met a professional wrestler, trained now I have spent the last 10 years wrestling all over the world, but it's not the same. So in June, i booked my last wrestling match, and now Im taking theatre classes to include directing classes at our local uni and taking acting classes. So, Im hoping a background in performing in front of live audiences with a hardcam and being required memorize storylines, how to act out emotion, doing stunts, staying in good shape, and putting on a convincing performance/fight live and in camera will be helpful.
Oh such an incredible journey! You definitely have a niche though if you are muscular built wrestler. As soon as you can produce some content and build your reel
I went back to university for music theatre at 23 and I was the oldest in my class. I’m 29 now turning 30 this summer and can say I am a full time singer/actor/performer and I feel I am in my YOUTH also. Thank you for this video SO GOOD 🎉

Sure! What other questions do you have about acting? I need some more ideas for content and videos I can post here. The biggest thing for me is MINDSET!!!! That is my biggest strategy for success in this industry. Commitment to training, growth and consistency even when the market doesn't want you. It takes A LOT of tenacity to keep going. Keep watching. I just made another video here: ua-cam.com/video/itHCnJN_wFE/v-deo.html
I’m 52. Thank you for your insight and perspective, and for emphasizing the importance of Passion. Your dialogue has validated many of my concerns and given greater insight to areas I sought direction through. I appreciate your effort to assist.
Hello Cherene thank you for showing us your story! I am also turning 30 next month so I started thinking more of my future and desire to be an actor. I've done some background work but it isn't until late last year that I decided to be more involved aside from working full-time and attending school. I've always wanted to be an actor but always put it off due to needing to work, school, and life in general. As you mentioned, being almost 30 has also allowed me to be financially stable and gather plenty of life experience and confidence that will also help me in my acting career. Seeing this video also gave me the idea to make a video detailing my life experiences so far ofcourse in a separate and solely acting based channel. Sorry for the long rant but I really appreciate your words of wisdom and videos. Cheers!
I love the long rant ✨🙏🏾. So glad you resonated with my video. I’m 36 now and I’m finding that there is definitely hope for those who start in 30s 40s and 50s even later. There are opportunities for everyone if we allow ourselves to see them. Good luck I’m looking forward to seeing your channel too!
Your video popped up at the right time!! I got interested in acting while I was in Tallahassee, FL doing plays with my former church. I took classes afterwards and recently just did my headshots a year ago. Even though I’m gaining my masters in school counseling, acting is still a goal of mines to achieve. I’m 31 soon to be 32 and I just subscribe. It was definitely on time for me. Peace and blessings!!
34 Canadian and I've been taking acting classes for a year. Like you I always wanted to act but never thought I could "make it" but C*vid came in and said "is this how you want to live girl??"
GURL! Right! Life is too short. And we only get one life... I wish you all the best. Please let me know what other videos you'd like me to share. I just posted a new one here: ua-cam.com/video/itHCnJN_wFE/v-deo.html
Thank you Cherene! Would like to ask for your opinion (as much as just "commiserating"!)- Had tried industry from writing route, knew some already working in TV, did college/community theater; light exposure, but... dropped it from "real" statistics on making it, didn't want 500 auditions over 5 years (had how live during), etc. Did "day job"; became school teacher. Hard job, but years go by. Now still grind my teeth when I see a great performance, or just went to a convention, and see those on a series talking on a panel or selling photos (but .... truth is, how'd they get there, yes?) Question... 1) continue lament/missed something(?), 2) go back still try now (40 age on),. Or, 3) or know it is a hard gig , okay did something else/yes, would be nice to do a casted role, but....and just don't cry at seeing those at conventions? :) Not discounting just do what can- keep writing, maybe UA-cam even a small channel... Maybe self-tapes still ... that's something? And now with "extra" work possible cut, strikes cutting out a lot...? Thank you for help and work!
These are some really good questions. And I have been there...And to tell you the truth I had to fill that void and just commit to it. Even though it was hard and competitive. I honestly felt like I HAD TO DO IT or my life was a waste...I know that sounds super dramatic, but I just felt so compelled to do it...As I went along my journey it was tough and some days I wanted to give up. I am still acting and creating. I had good years and bad years. My take away now that I am about 4/5 years in is - JUST DO IT...even if you fail. Then there are no regrets. - Produce your own stuff, YES! UA-cam, SOCIAL MEDIA, SHORTFILMS - Can you turn your acting and creative skills into a business somehow? YES YOU CAN - it is super possible...I made a video on that here: ua-cam.com/video/AEs1imb39B0/v-deo.htmlsi=dEpmFA0WyG5jzU4b - MINDSET IS EVERYTHING!!!! - I promise to make a video on this ASAP! Please keep watching for motivation, inspiration and tips. And let me know when you have decided to start! DO IT IN 2024! I am routing for you!
@@ChereneFrancis great so far! I booked a commercial and scored an audition for a series regular role for a popular Australian television show which I’m still waiting to hear back from - I did the audition 2 days ago! I’ve only had my agent since October so no complaints at the moment :)
I went to acting classes with reputable coaches and then got a referral to agents from the students and the coaches. Plus get video footage from you class to help show your skills.
I am a 32 years old professional musician and I want to learn acting to be able to improve my performance on stage. I´m starting with acting classes now - not with the goal to have a acting career, but it would be obviously a nice to have. I am a German who just moved to Indonesia and I have the feeling that as a european person it´s much easier to have a succesful career. For that I have to learn the langua first I guess :D
Oh and I almost forgot the second reason: I have trouble expressing my emotions and as I imagine actors have to learn being able to express all kinds of emotions, right?
I agree that acting is a skill that will enhance any skill. I use it in business all the time. Help you become a great communicator. Thanks for your comment! Best wishes 😁
I’m 19 currently but i have this big urge since i was a little kid. I don’t live in the U.S. currently and I don’t even have acting classes in my area. After I finish my 12th grade should i move to us and get acting classes there ? I want to be an actor one day (i know it’s pros and cons) but IDC that passion burns red hot inside me ! And also yes just like you when i see someone in movies as a character i feel the same way “man i wish it was me”. I don’t even care if i start with background character or side character or an ad i just want to be in tv. My parents think it’s impossible to be appearing on tv.
My advice is to research as many markets as you can, both in the industry but also cost of living so you can find work and sustain yourself while you are building your career. Yes, your parents may never understand the passion, you will have to stay motivated and feed your soul on your path. There may be dry times and times of abundance but if you also create your own content you will keep the career flowing. All the best 🙏🏾💛
Even though I may look young…I still book my age and older. I have played age 35 to 50. I don’t think it’s just about age - it’s more about now what characters you play well and what makes you different. Yes, I am sure contacts help, relationships are important, and at the same time you can still start with no contacts. Just one person can introduce you to another and so on as you build your network.
@@ChereneFrancis No agent yet. Professional experience, funding and a local market are all lacking here. I actually had to reach a certain point within myself before realizing this was even a possibility.
@@venitron5780 anything is possible if you really want it. I wonder what market you're in. Is it possible to move closer to another market? Have you considered producing your own work or content? The voiceover market is booming too! You can do that work from anywhere.
@@ChereneFrancis I self-produce content. The reach doesn't seem to be there and if anything, It may actually work against me. The amount of doxing and persecutory allusion I've felt in the industry thus far appears unprecedented. I'd love to move. I need to move; but income is at a stagnant zilch. Furthermore, on a less appropriate note, being sexually repressed as a straight man in a 'me too' culture is wearing away heavily at my psyche. Thank you for your insight and for expressing interest through discussion.
@@venitron5780 Thanks for your honesty. The industry definitely has its seasons. Cast a long-term vision 10, 20, and 30 years and keep faith. Also continue entertaining yourself with other projects while you're in this down season. One thing I know for sure is that seasons come and go. It won't be this way forever. All the best and thank you for your comments.
😂😂😂 I honestly had to look him up. So, let’s say I live to age 95. I still have a good 6 decades to go. 😂 I have older actors like Morgan freeman in my vision board exactly for this reason. ✨🥂
A little bit younger 26 but still just starting out my acting career, been in a part time drama school for a year now…but still don’t know how I’ll get an agent and move forward 🥲

27 yo when i (re)started! Still want to learn more about musical theatre. :)
Honestly! Go for it!. I still have dreams of musical theatre soon. I plan to explore that when my kids are older.
Great video! Thank you for talking about your acting journey!
It was so useful and Interesting, I've liked and subscribed!
Glad you enjoyed🙏🏾
Just posted a new video here! Hope you enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/itHCnJN_wFE/v-deo.html
Sooo good!! I know professionals juggling the acting, day job and kids. It’s super doable!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
@@ChereneFrancis I am a firm believer in that. Once again, thank you for the vid. God be Godding.
@@DerekLincolnDPW Amen brother!
This has been so helpful, Thank you!
You’re welcome 😁
34 Canadian and I've been taking acting classes for a year. Like you I always wanted to act but never thought I could "make it" but C*vid came in and said "is this how you want to live girl??"
GURL! Right! Life is too short. And we only get one life...
I wish you all the best. Please let me know what other videos you'd like me to share.
I just posted a new one here: ua-cam.com/video/itHCnJN_wFE/v-deo.html
Thank you for this.
My pleasure!!
Now still grind my teeth when I see a great performance, or just went to a convention, and see those on a series talking on a panel or selling photos (but .... truth is, how'd they get there, yes?)
Question... 1) continue lament/missed something(?), 2) go back still try now (40 age on),. Or, 3) or know it is a hard gig , okay did something else/yes, would be nice to do a casted role, but....and just don't cry at seeing those at conventions? :)
Not discounting just do what can- keep writing, maybe UA-cam even a small channel...
My take away now that I am about 4/5 years in is
- JUST DO IT...even if you fail. Then there are no regrets.
- Produce your own stuff, YES! UA-cam, SOCIAL MEDIA, SHORTFILMS
- Can you turn your acting and creative skills into a business somehow? YES YOU CAN - it is super possible...I made a video on that here: ua-cam.com/video/AEs1imb39B0/v-deo.htmlsi=dEpmFA0WyG5jzU4b
- MINDSET IS EVERYTHING!!!! - I promise to make a video on this ASAP!
Please keep watching for motivation, inspiration and tips. And let me know when you have decided to start! DO IT IN 2024! I am routing for you!
All the best for your acting career 👍
Thank you! I appreciate that 😁
Worked for Octavia Spencer
She’s on my vision board too. 😁
I’m 22 and I’m in my first acting class and I have my first role in a production at my college
🥳🥳LOVE IT! So much fun!
Really enjoyed this video!
Awesome - thanks for sharing😁
Dorothy Steel began at 88! Never too late!
Seee! Thank you for this!
I’m trying to start
Good for you! It's usual tough in the beginning so set long-term goals for yourself to stay persistent 😎👍🏾
I started my training at 27, got my first agent at 28
Nice! How is it going now?
@@ChereneFrancis great so far! I booked a commercial and scored an audition for a series regular role for a popular Australian television show which I’m still waiting to hear back from - I did the audition 2 days ago! I’ve only had my agent since October so no complaints at the moment :)
@@claudiarose383 Ayeee!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🔥🔥🔥
How did u get your agent?
I went to acting classes with reputable coaches and then got a referral to agents from the students and the coaches. Plus get video footage from you class to help show your skills.
36. Did one play 5 years ago
32 years old just looking around
I’m 29 I started some classes
That's honestly the best way to start!
@@ChereneFrancis Thank you so much ma’am ❤️🙏🏼
My professional debut was 46 but I will be interested in your comments.
Good for you! THere is a role for everyone
Do u think it helps if you look younger than you are ? Also does it help having contacts in Hollywood?
Even though I may look young…I still book my age and older. I have played age 35 to 50.
I don’t think it’s just about age - it’s more about now what characters you play well and what makes you different.
Yes, I am sure contacts help, relationships are important, and at the same time you can still start with no contacts. Just one person can introduce you to another and so on as you build your network.
@@ChereneFrancis thank you
Alexia demie is in her 30s and plays a teen on euphoria!
@@inez3190 yeahhhhhh I’ve seen it !!!
I am also curious. I am almost 47 but look late 20’s-early 30’s.
I am 29, thirty next month. Although I've been involved in casting for about two years, still have yet to land a role. 🙏 -Vinny Logan
Hmm? Do you have a reputable agent? I also think there are so many variables. (market, agent, skill, type) So much. What do you think is missing?
36 years old, don't speak English, and will start studying acting in the USA.
You got this 😎🚀
I am 36
Cheers 🙂
You could play early 20's.
Thank you! I only ever book 30+ though...I have even played a 50 year old LOL😂
@@ChereneFrancis 50!!!!!! WOW!!!!
@@teishahickman2108 😅😂
I honestly believe to be an actor, there always has to be nepotism involved. I mean an actor in LA, not small town theater actors.
I'm not surprised
I'll just say: Gene Hackman.
😂😂😂 I honestly had to look him up. So, let’s say I live to age 95. I still have a good 6 decades to go. 😂 I have older actors like Morgan freeman in my vision board exactly for this reason. ✨🥂
@@ChereneFrancis I think Ester Rolle ("Good Times") started her acting career at 40.
@@10Vernonplace See that's inspiring!
First of all… there is no way you are in your 30’s 😨
Haha thank you 🙏🏾😁 surprising I have played 40 to 50 year old roles so far 😂
@@ChereneFrancis nooooo wayyyyy… 😨😨😨😨
A little bit younger 26 but still just starting out my acting career, been in a part time drama school for a year now…but still don’t know how I’ll get an agent and move forward 🥲
