    Well said Hank, God didn't cause sin in heaven, it was a selfish decision from a free will being.

    The question of whether God allows bad things to happen or causes them touches on a complex issue in the Bible, one that involves both God's sovereignty and human responsibility. The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all things, meaning nothing happens outside of His will or control. This leads to the idea that God ordains all events, including those that we perceive as bad or evil. At the same time, humans are held responsible for their choices, even when those choices lead to suffering and harm.
    This creates a tension that is difficult to reconcile. If God is in control of everything, how can humans be truly accountable for their actions? If God causes everything, how does human responsibility fit into the picture? From a human perspective, this can seem unreasonable-how can both be true? The Bible presents both ideas: that God sovereignly allows or ordains bad things for His purposes, and that humans are still morally responsible for their actions.
    In the end, while we may struggle to understand how both divine sovereignty and human responsibility coexist, the Bible asserts that God uses even the most difficult and painful circumstances to bring about His greater plan, without excusing human wrongdoing. This balance between God’s control and human accountability is ultimately a mystery that is impossible for the creature to fully grasp, but both truths are affirmed in Scripture.

    Six years ago we went through a series of events that almost destroyed me. I had never truly confronted horror before that time, and until then I thought I understood God and how He worked. I was wrong. In cases like that, a clinical, logical, theological answer does not heal the visceral trauma and emotions; the best thing a would-be comforter can do is simply stand beside the person and grieve with them. In my case, what happened led to seeking out different theologies and ultimately a reconstruction of what I believed. I am not alone. Dostoevsky and others struggled with the visceral emotions that can prostrate us when we are confronted with true horror and cruelty. Can good come out of horror? In our case, somewhat. Make no mistake, though, evil leaves a swath of suffering and consequences a mile wide in its wake.

      @goatsandroses4258 Good point. The dark night of the soul can be a moment to seek out God like Job. The Book of Job refuses to give us an easy theological answer. Isaiah 45 : 7 - I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create [disaster / calamity / evil / take your pick]; I, the Lord, do all these things.

      @ConservativeMirror Complete misunderstanding of Isaiah 45:7
      The context of 40:7 concerns the vindication of the righteous by God's anointed Cyrus....
      Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus,
      whose right hand I have grasped,
      to subdue nations before him
      and to loose the belts of kings,
      to open doors before him
      that gates may not be closed:
      2 “I will go before you
      and level the exalted places,
      I will break in pieces the doors of bronze
      and cut through the bars of iron,
      3 I will give you the treasures of darkness
      and the hoards in secret places,
      that you may know that it is I, the LORD,
      the God of Israel, who call you by your name.
      4 For the sake of my servant Jacob,
      and Israel my chosen,
      I call you by your name,
      I name you, though you do not know me.
      5 I am the LORD, and there is no other,
      besides me there is no God;
      I equip you, though you do not know me,
      6 that people may know, from the rising of the sun
      and from the west, that there is none besides me;
      I am the LORD, and there is no other.
      7 I form light and create darkness;
      I make well-being and create calamity;
      I am the LORD, who does all these things.
      The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2016), Is 45:1-7.

      @TruthFactsLM57 Interesting. Christopher Hitchens was notorious for that offense. See www.equip.org/articles/god-is-not-great-how-religion-poisons-everything/
