  • Move over, Laura--It's Marypalooza here at the pod! We had so many more questions for our wonderful guest, Melissa Anderson, she graciously agreed to join us again for Part 2!
We hear her thoughts on how Little House impacted her life, being or not being a part of Little House events and celebrations, and how she was viewed in the industry as a young Hollywood starlet. She explains her exit from acting, and how her focus on her family and being a parent out of the spotlight played a huge role in her personal fulfillment. And see Pamela gobsmacked by Melissa's praise of Livin' On a Prairie! (*gasp!)
And then, a whole slew of your fantastic listener questions!
Join us on Patreon, where you can hear Melissa answer many more of your questions, as well as Alison asking about the infamous HAND SLAP of Melissa Gilbert from "Country Girls"! Was it meant to hurt? Find out on Patreon!

Thank you all! Little house is my soul food and you were such a huge part of my childhood. Im on home hospice for cancer and I love revisiting this show that brings back wonderful memories! My friends and I watched every single week and talked about it in school the next day. We pretended our Holly Hobbie dolls were Mary and Laura, etc. The show was so huge to us as children in the 70s!

I am so impressed at what a good sport Melissa is. It’s wonderful to see everyone laughing and to know the real reasons she doesn’t do Little House functions. She is delightful. Well done everyone, on this very fun interview!

Ok. I'll ask. What's the real reason? I've heard her say in another interview that she's not being asked.

I hope not true.. if you read all these memoirs there was apparently dislike. Hey we who watched 50 years ago.. older we get we can change..right? And the visit in france must have helped so just happy she appeared

I think Melissa has been misunderstood over the years and prob misjudged as a result. I love that she's doing interviews and stuff. Love hearing her perspective.

@@greensmoothiequeen well, just going off what she said here…she feels like she wants to always be looking forward in her life, not backwards.
I have a feeling, though, (just like Dean and Allison said) she would be really pleasantly surprised by the joy and fulfillment that attending some of these events could bring her in her present life.
Either way, it was great she did this interview. I think it really helped dispel some rumors and it showed her a great light!

Melissa Anderson is extremely genuine. I respect the fact that she wanted to move "forward" with her life. Not everyone wants to be defined by an event that occurred 50 years ago. I am also thankful for Dean and Alison who continue to carry on this legacy.

This was really great, thank you! I think one of my all-time favorite scenes of the entire show, is when it's Mary's birthday and they have just moved to the city, she and Adam and everyone are seated around the table in the restaurant, Pa has just been beaten up, and Laura gives Mary a birthday card in braille that Mary 'reads' aloud. I just lose it in a full ugly cry every single time. The depth of emotion in that scene is just off the charts, due to the amazing acting of Melissa Sue Anderson. Would love to hear any of the actors' memories of that scene.

I can totally understand how Melissa feels. I remember that Jean Stapleton refused to do the Edith voice.
They are actors who portrayed characters. Life is more that one job, no matter how popular.

Another amazing podcast. So glad Melissa came back! She is so nice and smart. I’m sure they’re trying to keep it somewhat light and fun, but some of Dean’s and Allison’s uproarious laughs come across as taking jabs at what Melissa is saying. Melissa was a good sport nevertheless. Perhaps the most pointed question was Dean’s about Melissa attending events. It needed to be asked, and I do appreciate Melissa’s stance-about living in the now. I’m sure those events can be physically and mentally grueling too, as Allison and Dean alluded to. That said, I still think Melissa could’ve really enjoyed them. Of course she’d be swamped with praise and fan-love!

Part 2 was awesome! Thank you to Melissa for the amazing detail on how you prepped for your character as Mary went blind on the show. That was one of my questions I had throughout the years. Thank you to the rest for keeping this podcast going. It would be so awesome to see all of the remaining living characters together on an episode if possible.

SO enjoyed this episode that continues the conversation with Melissa Anderson. Hope we see more of her in the years to come - whether it's LHOTP related or not. It has been wonderful to hear her experiences on the show, and what her life has been like since. As a fellow mom who held down the fort on the homefront, I feel like I can relate to her so very much. Great interview!

I understand where she's coming from when she says she wants to move forward. How many of us not want to see things from when we were kids? Somethings were good, but somethings weren't. I don't cherish all of my memories from 10-18. We also don't know what her personal life was truly like then, and it's not our business. She wrote an autobiography, and much of those years are more about being on set, etc.

Really enjoyed both Part 1 and 2. It's good to hear Melissa's straight forward, direct, honest way of talking. Actually, Melissa/Mary was not my favorite from the show, yet it's still nice to hear her thoughts.
That's a real shock that her own kids weren't enthused to see the episodes.

Ok, just to say about Pamela Bob's question on how did you forget your baby........ in the fire...... Mary and Adam didn't forget thier baby, Alice Garvey told Adam and Mary to go on with Hester Sue and the other Blind children, and she would get the baby. Hence the sighted person could go quickly and get the baby.....BUT she didn't know about the boy stuck in the bathroom. If she didn't have to save him too, they would have gotten out. Let's all remember that whole thing.... I'm just saying 😮😊😅😂

Question I would have for her children would be when they were interviewed for their jobs did the prospective employers know who their mother was? Not that it would matter, but then, my next question would be. did the employers and fellow employees just organically find out? Then it would be great to hear that story

I never have and never will be a patreon to any channel. Imagine loving 5 channels and wanting so called exclusives by being a patreon? I’m going broke but the channels thrive from my and many other gullible folks hard earned money? NOPE! My hard earned money is mine. Utube is free and wifi internet isn’t! So I pay for internet to watch free content. Why should I pay anything for something you’re choosing to want to do? Obviously you have the time to do this why would I pay to see what I can eventually find on google? 😂
