Some where in heaven, Clemente, Stargell, my brother Roberto and my father are all smiling. Retire Clemente's number Bud Selig and this will even a better end, to the 2013 season. This could not have happen during a better season, then the 10th anniversary of my father's death. The man who taught me about Clemente, both my role models and both true Pirates to the end. GOOD LUCK BUCK'S NATION!!!! From a loyal Yankees fan but a more devoted son. WE ARE FAMILIA!!!!
When I hear him speak in Spanish in his interview after the Pirates win the 71 World Series, it brings tears to my eyes. What he said was, "On the biggest day of my life for my children I give them my blessing & I ask my parents to give me their blessing from Puerto Rico", just shows you the humility of this man and his pride. He was such a proud Puerto Rican every time his wife Vera was about to give birth he would send her back P.R. So their sons could be born there. Retire Clemente's number
awesome video!! one of MLB's greatest players... i only got to see Clemente on Tv during the 71 WS and when the Pirates were in town to play the Astros .... but I'm very grateful i got to see him live at all.... God Bless Clemente...
I was 13 when i heard that he died . Being that baseball at that time was a big part of my life andhe my favorite player I'm ashamed to sa I cried like a baby.Such a Talent and such a man
Beautiful video! He was and is the best player that baseball has ever seen. I met him in 1970, when I was thirteen years old. He was kind and took the time to talk to me, and sign a ball for me. I will never forget his swing, or his smile. May God rest his soul.
I saw him play. He was amazing to watch. Regal, graceful yet fierce. You could not take your eyes off him when he was at bat or on the field. The director John Sayles said that Clemente played with a controlled abandon that was astonishing to watch and it was so true. Interesting too, is that Sayles felt these same qualities that he saw from Clemente, were the exact qualities Sayles needed to adopt in his writing. He said, "All I needed to learn about writing, I learned from watching Clemente."
I happened to follow Clemente´s career as a child, since that fabulous 1954-55 Santurce winter league team, even before he became a major leaguer. Young folks hardly get to know a complete baseball player WITH work AND family ethics AND human values. Players are not like that anymore. People in Chicago still talk about his gigantic home run OVER Wrigley Field´s board. No one has ever done that.
Rogers Hornsby one of the greatest hitters ever and someone as a player and manager who saw all of the great hitters since the deadfall era said that that home run in Wrigley was the longest he'd ever seen anywhere!
Class Act video. Great job! I was so blessed to see him play the year he died. Roberto Clemente, as a youth playing Little League, I idolized you as the player and human you represented. We miss you!
Great video, gave me a chill. He was a favorite player of mine, I remember him in 1971 world series. I remember the day he died on a mission to help others.
R.I.P. Roberto Clemente you will always be greatest player ever in my heart. To HernandezRC21, I cried in this video remembering him, even though I'm not old enough to see him play, his legacy still lingers in the hearts of everyone who meet him, saw him play, or people that he helped.
Great job! Thanks for posting. As a kid that grew up in the Pittisburgh area in the 50s and 60s, he was truly my boyhood hero and idol. I was really lucky to see him play several times at Forbes Field.
Thanks HernandezRC21! Very Nicely Done Video of "The Great One!" I grew up in Pittsburgh area. I was 11 when he passed. I'll never forget that day. But, with the magic of video & UA-cam we get to still watch the greatness.
Great film and tribute Hernandez!Your film is so thoughtful and captivating. I wish we had more footage of the great one around, but it is so limited due to his playing in a great but smaller market like Pittsburgh. Clemente once confided to a teammate during the 71 series or shortly afterwards that he regretted that he could no longer field and throw as well as he did a few years back, that the people of American missed seeing him at his best! Amazing when you think about it as he made so many great catches and throws during that series. Roberto Clemente el Grande! Él vive para siempre en los corazones de los millones de personas que lo aman.
Wow! How lucky you all were. Please if you're ever inclined do share some stories about him. Living elsewhere, I was not able to see him nearly as much. I sure wish I had.
Thank you HernandezRC21, for sharing this great video that you made. It's obvious it was made with love and respect for "The Great One". As a long, long-time fan of Roberto Clemente's I cannot thank you enough. There are some clips of him in here I have never seen. Well done!
