OK I have (mostly) fixed the awful auto generated subtitles, they are good now. I may trim the timings with the built in subtitle editor (I mostly like to edit things by hand in arcane text editors). The words are (mostly haha) right now. No more "sex vertical grits" (bummer).

What about AI? I would love if you could do a video with AI combined with supercomputers to help forecast and simulate real time environments etc.

Have you found any interesting points yet as to what causes the anti-vortex forces that seem to eventually shut down tornadoes?

Do you have a list of upcoming events you will be speaking at? Would love to attend one of your talks!

Most of my talks are at conferences where you have to pay a ridiculous fee just to enter... but I do give an annual talk at the Madison Dark Skies Severe Weather Seminar (I've posted my Dark Skies talks here in the past). That's the one event free and open to the public that you can expect to find me at. It's usually in March, at Madison College in Madison, WI.

@@LeighOrfsThunderstormResearch I really appreciate your work. Always been interested in Physics and everything weather.
One of my first work in middle school was on hurricanes/typhoons. That was quite before your molecules began assembling into the making of you ☮

    Subtitles!!! Excellent 👍
This reminds me a Terry Pratchett audiobook "Interesting Times" in which there's the butterfly of Chaos. The one of Lorentz with I imagine Mandelbrot patterns on it's wings.

I'm gonna clean the subtitles up, they are pretty good but there are some funny things... said New York...

So I watched your 7 year old video on simulations. I am late here, but something I did notice.
I am noticing something similar to modulational instability in the way the vorticities are moving here. So, could it be a piling effect of the rotating air columns eventually leading to a dominate circulation stealing energy from the smaller circulations causing a positive feedback loop?

Hi leigh! I love your work so much. Are you planning on modelling the Hollister event from the other day? It's incredibly interesting and it'd be amazing to see it simulated.

ill be honest.... the audio is pretty hard for me to understand.....
i have good speakers and can usually understand accents just fine

idk.... is their an echo cancellation program you can run this through lol

Yeah, it sucks, I know, sorry - failed experiment. Normally I mic myself with a lapel mic, but this time I thought I'd try the easy way. It can be a challenge managing two lapel mics during a talk etc... but, I will do it from here on out.

@@LeighOrfsThunderstormResearch I just had a coffee to get my brain working. It is quite easy to do voice overs on videos. I often see that on French channels.
Your work is worth it. If in need, try Pecos Hank, he sure knows how to do this

This is probably pretty off-topic but just asking you.
Do large tornadoes actually scientifically have calm centers in them? There's a lot of conflicting information and I'd like to know from a doctor studying in the field like you.

    • @LeighOrfsThunderstormResearch
      @LeighOrfsThunderstormResearch  7 місяців тому +3

Sure, in many cases (say single and two celled tornadoes) if you were able to transport yourself to the center ("eye") of the tornado and move with it, you would mostly be in calm air, but multiple vortex tornadoes could be more difficult, there is not obvious center to many of those. You'd get bonked by a lot of suction vortices, probably.

Paraview (Kitware) did the stuff towards the end. I also use VAPOR (NCAR) and I've used VisIt (Lawrence Livermore)
