Sadly the 30th season was the one that Rod Roddy's health started to decline, but he managed to pull through with only one short leave of absence. During the 31st season, his health got much worse, to the point that he needed several leaves of absence, and eventually had to tap out for the remainder of the season. Rod was able to announce for the earlier episodes of Season 32, before he finally tapped out for the last time, and then succumbed to his illness soon afterwards.
Also, his on-screen appearances were taken out of the show for season 31, but he was briefly seen for the last time during the season 32 premiere just exactly one week before his death.
Two weeks after the tragic events of September 11 and four weeks after the untimely passing of rising r&b queen Aaliyah, CBS lifted our spirits with the first episode of the 30th season of the greatest game show ever.

I love the homage this man is giving Bob Barker who is working so hard to help Animals. Who has worked so hard to help Animals. I’m doing the same. I hope I can be as rich as him to really do a difference on earth for the last vulnerable ones.
What a great start to the season from TP and Plinko. It did help lift my spirits after the sadness of the 9/11 attacks. First time Switch was played for 2 cars. I think that Plinko record stood until Ryan won $31,500 last May.
I agree brother Clifford Switch is played for 2 cars, and if I bring my future girlfriend to the show and play for 2 cars I'll keep one for myself and give the other one to her.
This episode was aired just 13 days after tragedy struck when two planes hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center in NYC on 9/11/01 as well as most of the Pentagon in Washington DC, and the plane crash in Pennsylvania and it was a sad time when that happened. It was originally premiered on 9/17, but it pushed back to 9/24 and it was the start of the 30th season of TPIR. On this episode, it features "Triple Play", the toughest game where you can win up to three cars. This was inspired by a game of baseball. This guy won all three cars in "Triple Play", but if you love "Triple Play", all you can say is "Batter Up!!!"
Season 30 was actually supposed had started a week earlier on September 17, 2001. It was delayed because of the 9/11 attacks. It started on September 24, 2001 instead.
Christopher Dixon From that point on, the CBS Daytime Lineup started the new season the same week as the Prime Time Lineup. The only exception was Drew's first season. (Season 36)
Great ! Your father is amazing and this show help many shine & see some light with super gifts 🎁 Happy new year 🥳 2025 to your father & family ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This season stunk! Especially after getting those new models, and kicking Janice in the teeth and firing her for NO reason whatsoever!!! I vowed never to watch this show ever again, and never have!!
I read somewhere that Bob Barker had considered retiring from hosting "The Price is Right" at the end of the 30th season, but he ultimately decided against it, because at the time, he was still having too much fun with it
If you watched the show long enough as I had, I could always tell when the show was running short on time because that's when Bob would push the heck out of the contestants for a quick bid or an answer lol.
My late father PHILLIP ANTHONY ROUTHIER also died in 2001 from bladder cancer on August 6th--a month & 5 days before 9-11 & 11 more days before what would have been his birthday September 17th.--I didn't know about my father,s death until 14 years later in 2015!!
What a HORRIBLE bid by the 2nd guy in the showcase showdown. Who in their right mind thinks a Corvette, diamond rings and a silver tea set is worth only 32K? The car alone was around 45K...
...the closest to plinko perfection was back in 1991 when a contestant hit the 5k slot 4x and the fifth chip in $1,000.... i remember seeing it back then, but can't remember the exact date...it was shortly before the colors of the plinko board were updated as part of the show's 20th anniversary celebration...
I just realized it was exactly 6 months after my stepmom MARIE F.ROUTHIER died from lung cancer and respiratory failure at age 87 going on 88--24 years ago.
Is this not the first time the logo appearing on the screen after the first four contestants come on down was put on the screen digitally? For 29 years it was a physical card!
I hate it when people bid 2500 and then the next person bids 2501 what a douche move. U can tell the audience wasn't happy about that either. I'm glad he lost. They need to change that rule
That's my dad that won the three cars! So proud of him!
do you guys still have those cars? for some strange reason i feel like all the price tags in triple play had a yes behind them
Major congrats to your dad! I believe he's only the second winner of that game. Might want to thank Mr. Barker, since he created that game.
Just wondering is he from North Carolina?
JAMAICAN yes!
Clifford Shafran thank you so much! It was a dream come true for him!!! He loves this show!

He was at the doctor office on 9/11, diagnosed with cancer

have you seen that picture or video where you can see Satan in the smoke on 9/11?

11:34 Love how they all were meant to say “player” but Bob switched it up and ended up looking like the odd one out
Little did those Marines know what was to come on what was supposed to be just another day in September. I pray that they are all still alive.
America was never the same that day

Funny how all the models at the end got scared cause they shot the confetti and made a rumbling type sound! 😂😂😂
There is just something amazing about that Plinko reveal. Miss it!

This was probably delayed for airing because of those attacks.
I think the record was broken before ryan did it I believe it was the late 2000's early 2010's if I'm not mistaken

I just didn’t get why he accepted the spin off instead of spinning again since his total was low
Kellys' bounce to the ounce ratio was quite impressive
I’m surprised they didn’t bounce a lot more with those large 🍒
She definitely looks like 2001 especially with the seatbelt belt
I like how she keeps chewing gum the entire time, wonder what Kelly up too these days.
And Kelly, her Clapping Hands, her Nametag, her Smile & her Nose have some sweet winning her Cash & Prizes together company!

@9:04, THAT was the best way to kick off the 30th Anniversary Premiere!
RIP Bob Barker 😢
Jillian from this episode still ranks for University of Maryland softball team's top ten for all-time most hits and RBI.
The year of 9/11 for the 30th anniversary. The first week of broadcasting Price Is Right was the Munich Olympics hostage crisis
I didn't think that Munich Olympics crisis was as early as September '72
@@JasonDelarosa2000 Oh 1972
In addition to both season 34 and season 35, this was DEFINITELY the best season premiere from the Bob Barker era!
This season stunk! Especially after getting those new models, and kicking Janice in the teeth and firing her for NO reason whatsoever!!! I vowed never to watch this show ever again, and never have!!
Heather Kozar the new Barker Beauty was Playboy playmate of month in 1998 and playmate of year in 1999. good job bob
There is no such thing as a good boob job.
9/11 was also the day Rod Roddy found out he had the cancer
That adds to the increased tragedy
Thanks for keeping the commercials! I prefer watching TPIR with them! Thanks again!

The longest running show on CBS. Still going strong.
That spin off worked out as the man who lost it had 3 automobiles and a motorcycle already
What a HORRIBLE bid by the 2nd guy in the showcase showdown. Who in their right mind thinks a Corvette, diamond rings and a silver tea set is worth only 32K? The car alone was around 45K...

i played bob barker in camp before this aired it was an hit RIP bob it was an honor playing you in summer camp

It should’ve been Kelly 😤
Wasn't this the last taping or one of the last that Rod Roddy was healthy enough to announce??

Actually Bonkers was supposed to debut on the 2nd episode. It got replaced by Range Game.
I just realized it was exactly 6 months after my stepmom MARIE F.ROUTHIER died from lung cancer and respiratory failure at age 87 going on 88--24 years ago.
2 weeks ago on that show's filming happened the worst crime in that country.
Take care of yourselves, anybody.
Do you have the full episode of the Season 31 and 34 premieres? :)
Everyone seems in pretty good spirits considering they're not even 2 weeks past the 9/11 attacks.
Believe this episode was recorded well before the attacks happened

When the highest bid is $2501, and you are the last to bid, you don't bid $4000.
This was the first post-9/11 Price is Right, so of course all 4 contestants had to go over on the first prize and re-bid. **giggle**
"Ohhhh, we're starting the 30th year with an *overbid* here..."
What happened to Heather, Nikki, and Claudia? They were three of the best Barker Beauties in the history of The Price Is Right.

I believe Bonkers was supposed to bow today but wasn't ready due to a technical issue, so pricing game five was a substitution for it.
Great playing congrats
taped before 9/11 and first new 1 to air just after
Also for those 2 Showcases, I would have guessed the following.
1st Showcase: $35,000
2nd Showcase: $54,000
lol old school commercials
Adriel Conde I love how happy that life insurance commercial was lol
I’m guessing Bob didn’t hear Nicole bid $1.
From season 42 to season 52 of the price is right
September 24, 2001, thirteen days after 9/11.
Where's the episode where a contestant named Lisa plays Bonkers for a trip to Montreal - but doesn't win? 😟
