Funk meter maxin' out on this one! I was listening to a lot of funk bands in the 70's and never heard of them. I'm surprised that they were not all over the radio back then

Mandrill was pretty popular in the early/mid 70s. They got a bunch of jams you'd like like " Mango Meat", " Mandrill " Here Today and Gone Tomorrow ". Lots of hip hop have sampled them, Public Enemy heavily sampled the song " Two Sisters of Mystery " which is another jam. ✌

The bass is a monster. All the way through this track it just drives along.

I not long ago bought Mandrill’s Anthology, it is just the best! So talented, there’s a load of their live stuff that exists out there on UA-cam. Check out Mango Meat next, the drums are something else!

These MFers are (rightfully) legendary in funk circles.
    Brooklyn. 1970s.
The "other, other 3 Wilson brothers"
    [Ric, Carlos and Lou]
{NOT to be confused with the ones from Ohio [The GAP Band[
    OR the most famous ones: from California [The Beach Boys], 😛🤪😜}
...All 3 of the Mandrill Wilsons played horns or woodwinds and sang.
The crazy bastard you hear rippin' on guitar is: Omar Mesa 🤘🤘
    (Total, 100% bad-ass!)
Claude "Coffee" Cave (yep. that IS his name!) is the other "most well-recognized" Mandrill member.
(I believe he plays keyboards). 👍
    These guys were, the BADDEST-of-the-BAD!
Taking NOTHING away from any other greats (like Funkadelic or any of George Clinton's multitude of projects!
...or The Lafayette Afro-Rock Band (in ANY of their, like, 18 iterations!:
Ice, Krispie & Co. ['Crispy & Co,' in the U.S. and Canada, I believe], Sweet Exorcist, Captain Dax ...AND A bunch of others! (NOT kidding!)
A bunch of their members, also, did a project named: BAD CHILD.
Thar band's debut album: First Fight is an unknown gem!!) - OR even James Brown, who was; very much!, kickin' ass in the 1970s!!!!🤘🤘🔥), however
    I would say that: MANDRILL
    and
    CYMANDE
(...and, maybe: Krispie and Co. and Bad Child)
were THE class of this period!
You will nearly NEVER be disappointed, or find anything "wanting" in any of their stuff. Particularly the Mandrill catalog!
    🤘⚡🤘 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💥🧡💜

You really need to react to some of The Herbaliser. Taking from old school funk and mixing in some hiphop
