We could not have a Tallulah Bankhead today. The puritanical mob would destroy her, because no matter how bisexual she might have been, she wouldn't have stood to be muzzled and would have told them where to stick ... shove their politically correct bullshit. Then proceed to assist them in shoving it.
The closest to an ersatz Tallulah we've gotten, would have been Charlie Sheen. He just didn't have her class, gravitas, substance ... and despite how funny he may have been on
2 1/2 Men ... in no way shape or form, did he have her acerbic wit. Drag queens ENVY her caustic quips.
She would have been one interesting person to know. It's her openness and, the fact that she ripped her own filter out, that made her someone to admire.
There are those who say she died tragically, because she only lived to be 66. That's because they fear they might lose out in life. That's because they are them, and they are NOT TALLULAH
She crammed more life into her 66 yrs, more by half, that it would take 2 or even 3 people to equal the verve, vigor and total abandon she devoured life with. It would have been much as more tragic, had she attempted to cling to life, in some vain attempt at assuaging regrets. Dying a broken, poor, destitute and profoundly sad and tragic figure, had she withered on the vine. That would be the only version of Tallulah to remain in people's thoughts and imaginations.
Not the Tallulah, anyone who appreciates her for being true to herself, and not living by others artificial constraints
