  • Craftsman Pro Series 7400 tractor, manufactured by Husqvarna. 42" Craftsman snow blower.
    I installed the snow blower and belts, and tensioned the belts. ...Did a short test run with video footage of belts and pulleys operating, to make sure it's ready to go.
    I installed wheels weights, tire chains, and the canvas cab, off camera. Let me know if you'd like a video on those items.

    According to my snow blower manual, they use one of two different size top belts, depending on the deck size of the tractor. It's either a 55" belt, or a 56" belt.
    If the LT deck is 38" or 42", the tractor uses the 55" belt.
    If the tractor is a lawn tractor (LT) with a 48" deck size, it uses the 56" belt.
    If the tractor is a garden tractor (GT) with a 48" or 54" deck, it uses the 56" belt.

    This video gives a really good overview of how the belts connect, in addition to how to connect the snowblower to the frame. I now understand the belts for the first time.

    Nice job with your video. When mounting the blower to the front bracket on the tractor I struggled every year until I got myself a moving dolly from Harbor freight, added a piece of 3/4” plywood. I now store blower on the dolly making it easy to move around in my shop and when it comes time to mount it it’s at the right height to line up.

      I too have my Craftsman 42" snowblower sitting on a Harbor Freight dolly. I also have a 7' Winter Wolf snow plow sitting on two dolly's, one at each end.
      I'm going to figure out a way to sit these 'upright' on the dolly's so the control levers on the blower, and the A frame on the plow, will sit straight up in the air to conserve floor space in my barn. Happy & safe snow removal.... it's almost here!

    I had this exact setup. As frustrating as it was initially to figure out how to assemble it, I took a job in accomplishing it. I got rid of mine a few years ago as the entire setup was actually too big for my driveway. This is idea for a long straight driveway like yours. Thank you

    15:32 mark. Don't dangle the loose end of the chain inside the pulley drive assy. Use a tie-wrap to secure it up out of the way on the outside of the tractor frame. If it gets snagged in the belt it will shred the belt. I have the same blower.

      @@manabouthome It looks like the chain end on each side might be what goes up through the mounting pin, if not it would be a good idea to modify it so it does, that way it would kill 2 birds with one stone.

    • @manabouthome
      @manabouthome  Рік тому

      The Craftsman manual says, "Note: To prevent the chain from dragging on the ground, loop the end of the chain through the pivot lock pin." The chain's not long enough to drag on the ground! And it's not long enough to tangle with the belts and pulleys either. The way I showed in the video has never been a problem for me. However, I did loop the chain ends through the loops of the pivot lock pins when I installed the snow blower last week. And this seems fine as well. The manual calls for using the hairpin cotters to retain the pivot lock pins. I've never had a problem with any of this. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    Best video I’ve seen on this snow blower. Just to be sure I understand: one belt drives the auger and the other drives the fan?

    • @manabouthome
      @manabouthome  9 місяців тому

      Thank you! The long belt drives the auger and the impeller in the snow blower. The upper belt under the tractor's belly, transmits power from the engine (PTO clutch) to the long belt (below), via a vertical shaft with a pully on top and a pulley on the bottom. Thanks for watching!

      I looked that one up on Lowes... It doesn't appear that they offer a snow blower attachment for it. I don't know what's available for a smaller tractor/snow blower combination. You would also need tire chains and wheel weights. You have a gear/manual transmission, which is a good thing. Have you searched UA-cam to see what other guys are doing with your tractor model?

    I had a few things but the comments below have already covered them. The Harbor Freight cart works perfectly for mounting and storage... Also, the tensioner chains do go through the pivot lock pins.
    Lastly, the Craftsman is not made by Husqvarna. Both are made by MTD Equipment, which makes a number of other brands as well. So many parts are interchangeable. I believe when Lowes started selling Craftsman the difference between Husqvarna and Craftsman became even smaller. But these are normal cosmetic and branding differences.

    Interesting comments, on this unit how do you lubricate the front gear box and auger horizontal shaft? On snow blower assembly.

    • @manabouthome
      @manabouthome  Рік тому

      Good question! I've reviewed the maintenance section of the manual, and there's no mention of lubricating those items. The auger gear box appears to be a sealed unit without any provision for oil changing/adding. Hopefully it's full of grease. The horizontal shaft has flange bearings on its ends, which are actually plastic split bushings. I've never actually lubricated them. I'm not thrilled with this design, but it's working fine with no problems so far. Thanks for watching.

I'll let you know what I learn. Thank you for watching and your question!

    • @manabouthome
      @manabouthome  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Mike. I had an opportunity to remove the belt and measure it today. It's 5/8" wide, so that's a "B" profile. It measures 115-1/2" along the outside diameter. I marked it with a Sharpie, into 24" sections, and added up the sections (4 x 24" + 19-1/2" left over = 115-1/2"). This link might be helpful as to what that means. www.mdsofmi.com/v-belt-size-chart/ It looks like 115" outside length is a standard size. I'm guessing that would work, since it's only 1/2" less.
      www.mdsofmi.com/product/b-section-v-belt-b112/ I can't vouch for this listed belt. I've never tried these. But the price seems reasonable! Goog luck, and thanks for watching.

I replaced the stock bolt with a 5/8" shoulder bolt (precision ground). According to my snow blower manual, they use one of two different size top belts, depending on the deck size of the tractor. It's either a 55" belt, or a 56" belt. This is the belt that wraps around the pto clutch pulley.
      They're part #46989 and 48138.
