- Prius G-Building on the natural handling prowess of the stock Prius comes the Prius G, which grips the road better than hot bubblegum on asphalt. The Prius is not just an eco-car anymore. This Prius pulled .99 g on the skid pad at Willow Springs International Raceway, putting it in the ballpark of cars like the Corvette and Viper.

High performance is not typically associated with a Prius but the Toyota Prius G is built to do exactly that . . . perform. Since the first-generation Prius made its debut in the U.S. nearly two decades ago, the world’s top-selling hybrid set the standard for fuel efficiency and reliability. Toyota and Gordon Ting of Beyond Marketing sought to challenge the notion that a hybrid vehicle can’t be fast or handle. Taking inspiration from the Japanese Prius GT300, Ting built the Prius G to hold its own on the racetrack. The small but mighty Prius G pulled 0.99 g on the skid pad during testing at Willow Springs International Raceway in Southern California putting it in the company of performance sport cars that cost tens of thousands of dollars more.

They added wheels tires and changed the suspension? I wanted to see them mod the Prius and get better performance out of it, not make it understeer less.

fuuka It absolutely is. There's straight up race cars based on the Prius in Japan. Some of them don't even get rid of the hybrid layout, because the instant torque of the electric engine at a standing start can be very useful.
Beautiful!!! Prius IV has very Lexus design. It is one of the best handling cars I had ever driven. If only it gain powerful hybrid engine (above 200hp) it would be a masterpiece of motor industry...

I sat in this car at the S.F. Auto Show. Very interesting Prius to say the least.
I'm sorry, but when I saw the thumbnail I started cracking up.
I saw this at the NY IAS. Even took a picture. Wicked.
The Prius only has one gear, one gear ratio. It never changes gears. It's amazung. In fact the two electric motors and gas engine are alkways directly connected to the wheels, no clutch, no torque converter. There is a clutch that is alkways engaged, has no controls, it's only purpose is to absorb drive train shocks. No reverse gear either, again wheels and engine are always mechanically connected. No gear changes ever. The engine can start while the car is driving in reverse on electric. The simple extreemly relibale planetary gear transmission makes it all happened, and it works, works well transmission.
Another great Prius advantage is the electric motirs are not impacted by altitude, so hear in Colorado I can zip up mountain passes passing big heavy duty turbo pickup trucks like there standing still and get great gas mileage. It's amazing efficient Atkinson cycke gas engine with instant torque electric power through a simple no gear change transmission rocks, and is extreemly relible.
Hmm, that upgraded suspension is very intriguing. I have the Prius, I have to check that suspension.

I guess they improved the cooling system? I got an Toyota Auris Hybrid myself which does 0-60mph in barely over 8sec flat. The problem is overheating. I suppose with proper cooling the car can be fast every single time? What I love of my Auris Hybrid is it's instant gas-response. Yet again, only if it is not overheating and throthling performance...

I saw a "performance prius" in sf once. It had a body kit, exhaust ect but what really cracked me up was that it still had the stock exhaust peeping out from next to one of the exhausts hahahahaha

so if you actually want to make this car fast you start with the engine. disable the automatic start/stop system, disable the fuel saving 1 cylinder mode on deceleration, basically transform it back into a standard 4 cylinder engine with no fuel saving features, add forged internals then throw the biggest turbo on it that makes sense, computer tune the car and if you want make the drive all wheel drive or at least rear wheel drive. but with minimal work this is how you do it.

What toyota needs is an actual hot hatch. Not a hybrid, not a subie with some heritage thrown into the mix for us 86 dickbeaters.

so it's just a garage build that anyone can do. tires, suspension, gut out the interior and put a rollcage in.
No mods on the engine(typical variable turbo, intercooler, headers, downpipe) or electric motor for better performance, no ecu tuning on the gas motor, no battery mods, heat insulation, etc..
lol after all that gutting / suspension mods ! there are so many cars you can buy off the showroom without doing a thing , that blow that Prius away!

dont think u can trick the ECU and the thingy that controls the power from the battery, the checking lights would have flashed like a Christmas tree. Idk for sure, but i think that would happen. I also think the ECU is password locked.
