I have been on booktube for years and there hasn't been a creator who has captured me in so long, except for you! Please keep creating - your recommendations and enthusiasm make me excited to read
Omgosh Yasmine, you are so sweet! This comment means so much to me 😭 Hearing that you're excited to read is everything to me! I hope lots of good reads come your way! And thank you again for your kind words ☺️♥️♥️♥️
100% agreed on tracking a specific translator's works - there are certain translators that have exquisite taste in projects, and their websites/portfolios usually include forthcoming novels they're translating. GR also lists the translator on each book page next to the author name and you click through to see what else they've translated.
Thank you for the goodreads hack, I had no idea! But yes that's my favorite thing, another little constellation to map in our reading and a very funny rabbit hole to voluntarily fall down! Do you have a fav translator you've come across?
We're trying to assemble a lil lit fic community over here, come over and grab a seat! 😂 but totalllly feel you on that -- I feel like we have to sift through tons of people, but once you find your people its great! Theres a wonderful group of litfic booktubers on here, so you're in good (and kind) company! ☺️♥️
Haha I always approach these anticipated reads list wrapped in caution tape 😂😂😂 Im so glad to hear you liked Chouette! I feel like the Oshetsky gang is strongggg. So many people who enjoyed Chouette I know pre-ordered poor deer!
What you said about Helen Oyeyemi is totally true within myself! She was an author who for a long time I wanted to work my way through her whole catalog... but now that I'm on booktube there's just so many books I know about know idk if that that's still an attainable goal. I LOVED 'White is for Witching' and 'What is Not Yours is not Yours' but I couldn't have disliked 'Peaces' more, barely got through it! It felt so convoluted and pointless where her other books left me awestruck.
I find it infinitely fascinating how diverse the opinions on her books are, even within a person! And its like extremes, too! I'm so curious to see what people say about Parasol Against the Axe, really could go either way!
Like Love and All Fours are on my list. Also preordered Leslie Jamison’s Splinters and No Judgment by Lauren Oyler. Definitely feeling the nonfiction new releases!
Wait, I feel like Ive heard of Splinters. Let me run to goodreads real quick. And oooooh Ive not read Oyler but all the litfic girlies love her! I also deeply trust your judgement so Ima just scribble these on my list right now 😂
Aw, I am SOOOO so excited to read it! It sounds like a book that so many of us are going to get along with. April can't come fast enough, counting down the days!! ♥️♥️
Oh yes! I saw some goodies I must add to my tbr. All Fours, Liars, and More are already on my list, and I’m very excited to read them. 😊I want to give Come & Get It a try. I didn’t get around to Such A Fun Age.
Megan Nolannn ❤ I think I'm going to have to do a reread as well. I can't go an entire year without some Nolan in my life. I too am very excited for the Heti and Nelson this year! And I hadn't heard about that Miranda July but I loveee her so I will definitely be adding that to my list. And not to add to your already long January list lol but I would put Beautyland on your radar. I'm only halfway through but it's fantastic and I think you'd really get on with it.
LOVED buddy reading it with you! And totally, I dont want to rush her creative process but am also BEGGING for her to give us something else 😂 so in the interim, will totally be rereading OHF. Ok Ive literally heard nothing but absolute praise from all my favs, you included, about that book! I am moving it up my list for sureeeeee!

ME TOO WITH THE MIRANDA JULY. literally on all fours in dm's and emails for an ARC it hurts it's been so long since her last book. if you haven't done any Miranda July, i rec her short story collection, No One Belongs Here More Than You! there's a tenderness to her characters. her writing finds odd ways into your heart, loiters for too long until you call it companionship. there's a strange wonder in all of her work. and if you want to check out her films, i think you'd like Kajillionaire!
Hands and kneeeeees, YES! And omgosh ok I am taking notes! Shocked that she does films too, thats incredible. You put it so beautifully Nathan, Im excited!

Omg I hope the Hanif hive enjoys his new release!!!! I need to stop holding myself back and finally read something by him but Im like physically incapable of reading about music. January is truly SO stacked it’s nuts! Definitely looking forward to the new Kiley Reid and I’m soo curious about the memoir More now that you put it on my radar. It sounds fascinating! Another wild sounding memoir that’s on my radar for January is Sex With a Brain Injury by Annie Liontas! I just finished Strong Female Character by Fern Brady so I’m just going to preemptively claim 2024 as my memoir year. ❤
Ok started the Reid book, and can now with some data points, stand behind your excitement of it. Its totally giving HBO's Sex Lives of College Girls in the best way! And wait omgosh this sounds fascinating. Im DEF looking this up. And I fully support 2024 as the year of the memoir! Brady's book was so so special!
