good presentation and many good points! i regularly think about people saying "steve lawson's failure is HEARTBREAKING!" yes, definitely. but why is it any more or less heartbreaking than anyone else's? so this is a bit of shift in the conversation now. the exaltation of celebrity pastors is yet another form of (non-sexual) adultery. after all what is adultery, but mixing impure with pure regarding ANYTHING. there are many big name, big money pastors who never commit sexual adultery, but they have a total affair with their paycheck and public image and reputation. i have watched men slaughter lambs to protect their money flow. this is why God has presented the fellowship of Christ's sufferings in the NT as our main gauge for assessing anyone's quality - pastor or non pastor. finally, when i listen closely to lawson, i hear almost nothing about the mediating life and power of Christ. it's like it's up to us to "resist sin." this kind of thinking leads us into the flesh and subject to all of its whims. contrary to empowering against sin, it actually exposes us TO sin. Christ is the Life, the Power, the Mediator. He is our LIFE. that's the thing we need to focus on. God Bless.
Yes. Thank you for your words. How many ordinary lives in ordinary churches and communities have been deeply affected by the devastation that adultery causes? Thanks for talking about celebrity pastors. I served small churches for 42 years. The exaltation of preacher/ pastor to celebrity is maybe a form of idolatry. Perhaps for Steve Lawson, it was all just a show! He was a star. Now the star has fallen. Blessings in Christ Jesus.
