So my thought on the two-peters theory: I do get where it comes from, but imo the simpler explanation is that Peter got time jumped, showed up in the control room, and learned that Async faked his death. Then, either of his own volition or more likely forced by Async, he retreated back into the Backrooms and Async tried to sweep it all under the rug. Because if a guy who was supposedly dead suddenly shows up alive again, people are going to start asking *a lot* of questions from Async, and they're trying to keep the Backrooms project under wraps. I don't think we have a case of an imposter, I think we have a case of a cover up.

Makes sense, they already had to fake his death due to the nature of his disappearance. They probably had no idea what to do so they took his suit, his camera, and threw him out there.

    • @PurpleRabbit31
      @PurpleRabbit31 Рік тому +62

@@georgieboat I would argue that it's not a case of them not knowing what to do, but rather they refuse to backtrack on the cover story of Peter being dead, since Peter showing up in the control room very much alive really throws a wrench in their story. So to keep their story intact they took his equipment and shoved him back into the Backrooms, like a messed up form of exile. After all if Peter is out of sight, then he's out of mind, right?

    • @NissanZaxima

It's exactly this. If they are going to use this as some sort of infinite commercial storage unit then these null zone situations would fuck everything up (not to mention higher ups would probably be in a bunch of legal trouble as well). With the new upload, I started to feel at the beginning they were trying to hunt "the monster" but by the end it definitely felt like they were down there to hunt Peter. This whole series has been genius so far.

I do love that the scene which had the most tension and was the scariest didn't actually involve a monster or any reality breaking from the backrooms, but a situation provided due to previous cause and effect of the backrooms and the actions of the company.
Suddenly being grabbed, and being held at a gunpoint by a distressed and individual on-edge is scary as fuck. Especially since the said guy has no reason to trust anything you are saying to him as you work for the company which faked his death and possibly left him in the backrooms to die? The only thing which had an element of stupidity was Mark calling for the A-team and aggravating the circumstance which lead to him getting shot. But then again, he was just jumped and he is irrational at the moment.

      28:10 :
      Marvin: "Peter?"
      Mark: "...oh ####..."
      Mark is absolutely aware that
      a: Peter exists
      b: Marvin worked with Peter
c: Peter's death was faked and A-Sync left him to die
I don't see it as stupidity to make the call for the A-Team, I see it as a 'if Peter makes it out, the entirety of A-Sync is doomed' moment, that letting Peter keep control of the situation would lead to a fate worse than death.

That's actually what I thought before we got to the clip of him setting off the alarm. Since the video with him getting seperated from the group showed him finding the bacteria (or, what looks like the bacteria) and then coughing more as the video goes on. Since the backrooms already has time jumps happening within it, I thought the body they found was totally Peter and he was just gone from their memory as soon as the little glitch happened where he left.

Ha! Here I was thinking, "Shit, worst timing. Uploading this just as a new, major, episode drops!" but this mad lad manages to somehow throw in the new covering this new entry AND get the video out in the same day.
Oh, and we've had a hint that something was off about Pete's disappearance from day one. February 29th 1990 is a day that can't exist in our universe, it wasn't a leap year. Also the threshold "bunker" wasn't finished being built yet when he first disappeared. Yeah, Kane has been planning this out.
Oh and a random fact just to drill in how meticulous his level of detail is. So in First Contact there's a brief flash were this bit of seeming gibberish pop's up dNch/dy=8000 (mirrored in the footage to look 0008= blah blah blah... which well... you'll see why that's important in a moment). You might think it's some random part of a UA-cam link but this, this right here is the theoretical particle density you'd need to achieve a simulation of the big bang. In the real world ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) was set up to reach that level but was only able to reach about half or so (still really impressive). Well in First Contact this was shown in context of things that needed to be improved for the 6th test and had three red FAILUREs under the equation. This means in the somewhere between the 3rd and 5th test the reached a particle density of 8,000 and it wasn't enough! This means the 6th test needed a density greater then what was needed to simulate a friggin' big bang! Kinda buts the earthquake that was generated by this into context don't it. So yeah, this kid just drops something you either need to be a physics major or a major science fan boy to get casually as a clue!

I've been regularly refreshing my subscription feed today hoping someone would make a video about this because I am OBSESSED.
I could be wrong, but I don't think we're dealing with a doppelganger here. I think when Peter tripped the alarm, they sent in some people to talk to him and try to figure out what happened and what to do. But when they told him they'd already faked his death because he'd been gone so long (and they figured he was actually dead by then anyway), he freaked out and ran back into the Complex to escape, thinking they were going to kill him. (Maybe correctly...)
It's also been 17 days (in universe) since presentation, so how he's survived in there (and stayed healthy enough to overpower Mark and steal his gun) for that long is a mystery in itself. Maybe he found a source of food and water somehow? Or maybe he's gone forward in time again. Maybe he even figured out how to do it deliberately to avoid being found and captured. I don't know. I have so many questions I can't possibly ask them all.

It makes sense for the backrooms to be a reflection of our reality in a way. The question then becomes, is it a reflection of reality from the point the gateway was opened, or has it always been a reflection? What I mean is, has this dimension always had this "modern" look because it exists outside of time in a way, or does it always reflect our world, and it looked more primitive in the past, with say oil lamps as light sources and more rustic environments? If A-Sync had opened the portal in a more rural setting, like if their facility was located in the middle of nowhere, would the backrooms reflect that more instead?

Channels like this are MUCH better at explaining a horror series than Game Theory or Film Theory are. This and the previous episode are well-narrated in a tone that creates a good atmosphere and enhances the mood, there's no annoying child-like demeanor that MatPat or Markiplier are known for, and everything is right to the point with no unnecessary fluff. From one Nick to another, well done :)

A few things--the car that crashed in FF2 is not the same one that noclipped on the highway.
That "sunset" is not a sunset at all. It's footage of the first nuclear bomb being detonated.
A-Sync is not evil---not to mention many of them have never even been trained with weapons or combat.
There are no clones or alternate universes or anything. There is one Peter.
A key thing to remember is that the Complex was never created--merely discovered.

I still have a few basic questions.
Did the backrooms exist before Async opened the door or were they created at that time and a consequence of their creation, had now always existed? (basically, did the point of the experiment succeeding and opening the portal not only create the backrooms but also affect time both forward and backward and causing the backrooms to have existed both in the past and future. Remember, there ARE significant time anomalies there.)
Where is the power coming from for the lights? Do the florescent bulbs ever burn out?
Where is all the moisture coming from?
Did Async cause a fundamental weakening of our reality by manipulating a permeant opening to the backrooms?

Detail I’ve not seen anybody talk about, the hallway in presentation in the A-Sync building you can see in the original found footage, the infinity hallway with the gap. It’s the same hallway.
It’s my theory that the backrooms is built off the memories of people. The painting in the one room? It’s the exact room and painting seen in the Home Movie. But it’s off, all the main details are missing except the painting, something someone might more easily remember.
This makes sense in the whole idea of the backrooms. It’s a liminal space, it all looks familiar but slightly off. That’s why it’s creepy you can feel like you might have been there but you know you haven’t. That’s my theory and I’m sure it’s bigger but yeah.

"Everyone thinks I'm fucking dead." Who else would Peter have bumped into that thinks that he's dead?
Hypothesis: this is the same Peter as the one in Presentation but the event we the audience assumed to have happened in the narrative never did: that they let the Peter back in. This ties into the unlisted video as that was when instructions were given to leave him inside the Back Rooms and then we wandered off until this point in the series.

3:36 Maybe I'm being an old fart here but... I kinda dislike when real disasters are used in fictional media in this way. Especially if the people involved in those tragedies might still be alive. I felt similarly with petscop (even though that was later explained and the creator decided that even if he didn't intend it to be a literal reference, using so many of the real names and events directly was a bad move.) The people involved in Loma Prieta aren't characters for a spooky story. They were victims of a disaster.
It's a shame because both petscop and this are awesome! This is a great series! And I get the appeal of convenient, free-use media. For some I see how this would add to the immersion. But... I dunno, it just rubs me up the wrong way.
Then again, isn't this what we do? make stories out of our tragedies>
