I'm sorry. I think i'm too stupid to understand your point. I never heard of African American being a racist term only an inaccurate one.
You could argue that it's racist to call black Americans "African American" while not calling white Americans "European American" - you are emphasizing the place their ancestors came from, which they themselves likely never set foot into, crucially while NOT doing it for white people. It creates distance and otherness through language (which is important, as some prevelant theories of the mind revolve around us assigning symbolic meaning to things primarily through words/language. WHAT we call something directly influences HOW we think about it.). It's a double standard. If you're black, you will be referred to by the continent your ancestors come from, if you're white, you're just "American". (I realize there are a lot of white Americans who like to call themselves Irish/German/Italian etc., but there is no location-based blanket term for white Americans anywhere near as frequent as African American is)

Well many African American people you see obviously originate from the deep south where many of their ancestors were enslaved or were/are in deep poverty without a great education, so they were/are pretty heavily religious in general.
