Why do we have an عن in the first example? Is it part of the expression always?

Assalamualaikum Ustaj. While reading Ayah 96 of Surah Nisa, I found the first word having Kasrah. It puzzled me. Is there anything omitted? Would you please analyze the ayah grammatically for me?
{ دَرَجَاتٍ مِنْهُ وَمَغْفِرَةً وَرَحْمَةً وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا }
( (96 )) دَرَجَاتٍ: بدل من "أجرًا" منصوب، وعلامة نصبه الكسرة بدلًا من الفتحة؛ لأنه ملحق بجمع المؤنث السالم، ويجوز إعرابها مفعولًا مطلقًا منصوبًا.
﴿مِنْهُ﴾: جار ومجرور متعلّقان بنعت محذوف من "درجات".
﴿وَمَغْفِرَةً وَرَحْمَةً﴾: اسمان معطوفان بواوي العطف على "درجات"، ويعربان إعرابها منصوبان وعلامة نصبهما الفتحة الظاهرة.
﴿وَكَانَ﴾: الواو: حرف استنئاف.
كان: فعل ماضٍ ناقص مبنيّ على الفتح.
﴿اللَّهُ﴾: لفظ الجلالة، اسمها مرفوع وعلامة رفعه الضمة الظاهرة على آخره.
﴿غَفُورًا﴾: خبر "كان" منصوب بالفتحة.
﴿رَحِيمًا﴾: نعت لـ "غفورًا" منصوب بالفتحة، ويجوز أن يكون "رحيمًا" خبرًا ثانيًا لـ "كان".
