Our local council lets you take a van if you have rented one. Show them the rental agreement and your proof of address and you can go 3 times. Was a god send when we had to do a house move (downsize) and then a clear up for an elderly relative
It has nothing to do with greed. It costs a lot of money to process, recycle or complete dump waste. Nothing about it is cheap and Councils need to cover their costs or bastards like you complain about having to pay higher rates. You can't have it both ways.
It’s a few years now, but when my company had three vehicles stolen in four months by Travellers the police refused to do anything. One of the stolen vans was seen in the Travellers camp and was easily identified because it was sign written. The police said they wouldn’t go near the place, and told us to get onto our insurance company.
This is brilliant, now what could we do about people throwing old mattresses and furniture onto the pavement outside their houses? This happens frequently here in New Zealand.
It would happen much less here if our councils didn't charge such exorbitant tipping fees. No wonder Auckland and many other cities have a huge problem with illegal dumping.
@@donr2176 It costs fuckin' money to trash and recycle things. Councils have to pay for all of these actions. How the fuck are councils suppose to function if they can't cover their costs?
I am from West Brom. My mother had to move to a bungalow in same street after my father passed away. My father hoarded everything and found lots from our childhood which we had to dispose of, as mum was downsizing. We hired 2 skips from local firm. It was such an event for us we recorded it all, and the delivery man seemed very camera shy. A week later there was a knock on the old house from Wolverhamton Council asking about the residents, and neighbours told him where she had moved to. Even tho we had been careful not to bin anything with personal info a childhood diary from 1973 ended up in skip, and that led them to mums address. Fortunately we had evidence that we had paid for skip and could show the driver responsible. We never heard anymore but presume that they were prosecuted. Just to say it is not always cowboys.
As someone who despises fly tipping but lives for salvage, it breaks my heart that roadworthy cars are rightfully being taken, but not going to breakers so the parts can be used. Great incentive, wasteful outcome
Go to the offenders address and tip proper household waste outside their front door, and charge them to take it away, although these scumbags will probably eat it and tell the kids it's a takeaway
Every council should implement this, also a page on the local council's website to post those found to be fly tipping for all to see. On top of this an 8 to 16 hr community service order, specifically to clean up fly tipping waste
@@javeedsultan8484 yes you are right, the streets are no better and still mess. Litter is not acceptable and it was genuine accident, careless I did not realise. It was only when officer stop me. Lesson learned at big cost.
Fly tipping is often caused by council "dumps" either not open or not provided. Make it easy and free for people to dump their waste and fly tipping will stop.
You should be able to use the tip as often as you like you are being responsible for waste management by going , however the council's want to limit the amount of times you visit. We may have a small amount of waste whereas some may have more.waste is waste let's be sensible about it.
There's a difference between household waste and commercial/construction waste. When we have waste to deal with at work it's taken to a waste management site (non council), paid for and charged to the customer. Anyone flytipping is just scum.
Why the hell are you crushing them? There has to be an auction firm that would take them on consignment, auction them, and then you could use the proceeds either to offset the criminals fines or for other useful productive purposes like education or police outreach.
Cost mostly. Each car would have to be checked and, if necessary made road-worthy, before the council released it to the auctioneers. Any car that made it through this process and then failed and caused injury would be an insurance liability to the council. They cannot legally disclaim, IIRC. The cheapest option is to crush. Education is not a problem here as all tippers know what they are doing is wrong. they just don't care.
@@THEJR-of5tf I have few mates who are pretty much dependent on access to the tip. It pushes their quotes up dramatically as they have to price accordingly. Hello, late to this one. but part of the problem is, councils charge to much to dump. I remember a time when you could out any thing out with your bin and it would be taken away.
@@gowdsake7103 Hello, no one said it was. just saying if councils didnt charge so much half the problem would go away.Just another fee for greedy councils, to feed off. Also whats with the pillock. If you cant reply to a simple statement without name calling it says it all realy.
As they guy said only two waste sites for the whole of Wolverhampton . If there was more a lot of fly tipping would go away. some of this is to do with the councils putting charges on dumping things . If there was no cost to people fly tipping would diffidently decrease . My local council charge £2.00 per bag for rubble . I asked how big a bag the reply was as much as you can lift . which is unfair . so it is not just a problem caused by just people the councils are part parcel to blame as well . Not that they would agree on that.
I remember when councils used to leave skips for people to use. there was no fly tipping then. so the problem is caused by the councils and could be solved overnight if they started suppling skips again
How long back was that? I think that is part of the problem now.. there are so many dos and don’ts and extra charges. Given the amount of council tax we have to pay every month, there shouldn’t be any extra charges.
Too right. Also, when I've tried to dump stuff at the tip in a hire van (after moving house) I was denied access. Why? I used my car to take the stuff, bit by bit. No problem there! So, councils of the UK, what's the point in these stupid rules? Rules that actually encourage fly-tipping? 😳
It's caused by austerity which is a central government policy that has targeted council budgets. It's not the councils (well most) that are the problem.
Councils encourage fly tipping, they limit the amount each week you can dispose of, last year I moved home, I put out a large neat pile of cardboard, they refused to take it, I eventually burnt the lot.
Totally agree Henry Ellis, also for the larger items the the dustman won't take away such as white goods, old furniture etc, the council should reduce the cost they charge per item for taking it away, if it wasnt so dear to ask them to collect it a lot less people would fly tip those items as well.
The fixed penalties for fly-tipping are no where near high enough, but crushing cars is different and it’s a lesson the perpetrator, as well as the neighbours, will remember for a very long time!
On second thoughts, when you find the flytipper, take them in there vehicles, make them clean up there rubbish back into there vehicles, take it all to a crushing machine.all done.👍
Most Green lanes in the Countryside have Boulders blocking them. And Nottingham council WON'T let Me go to just any Dump.......I'm allowed 1 site and I must be registered beforehand 😮😮
This is a great initiative and needs to be used across the country. But I do have a problem with crushing the vehicles if they are perfectly serviceable. To destroy a perfectly good vehicle is damaging the environment and instead the vehicles should be sold at auction and the proceeds go back into the public coffers.
I grew up near Wolvo. Good work! I can't stand fly tippers. I was driving down a lane near Maidenhead one morning about 8 years ago at about 45mph on the way to work & had to pull an emergency stop because some idiot had dumped a huge mountain of rubbish right in the middle of the road.
50% reduction shows that there are probably not a large number of offenders involved. If they get hammered it should make a great difference long term.
I can't stand fly tipping but council's don't make it easy to dispose of waste,I once emptied my disabled friends shed and a general tidy of the garden, had a level load on a transit tipper, took it to the tip and got refused entry because it was a van, the nearest private tip was 20 miles away and it cost roughly £180 for just over half a ton of mixed waste, that is the attraction to people council's are partly to blame.
Some costs need to be addressed though and charged accordingly!!!! I have a lawn mowing round. The only “rubbish “ I have is cut grass!!! I have to pay £154 a year for a licence to carry the grass to the tip then I have to pay £22 when I get there. It’s grass, its biodegradable!!!!
One Pete to another, its amazing the amount of transit tippers with extended sides and barn doors tipping conifers and all sorts of shite in my area. They even park up on private land and bayby's where they fly tip the stuff till its full then move on till its cleaned up then return.Never seen them seizing any of there vehicles ? That would be racist very convenient. Pride in our countryside wouldn't let me throw a sweet paper out of the window let alone dump rubbish, Hope you can pass the cost on to the customer for there waste,,,,,, good luck with that one everyone is looking for service but in my experience not everyone wants to pay for it !! 🤙
@SEAN INGRAM certain individuals charge for the service and then fly tip more profit, I used to factor waste disposal int my price. My freind had a waste transfer station tipping charges and taxes were crippling he has changed direction, I agree in some aspects but certain individuals will still fly tip regardless.
Why not sell, or even just give your cut grass to a farmer to use as animal feed instead of paying to dispose of it in a landfill? A farmer would probably even come to pick it up, saving you the transportation charges.
SEAN INGRAM Once you cut it. It gets warm and ferments after a day or so. (Compost)And it would do the same when eaten!! If you cut it with a scythe it is OK!!
First I wondered what fly tipping was. Then I wondered why it was such a big issue. Then I figured it out. You're on an island; garbage disposal is a HUGE issue. Here in Canada, if anybody even bothers to file an official complaint, you get a fine, usually a token amount, and life goes on...
what a waste crushing perfectly good cars, if you confiscate it it could be sold and this would keep the carbon footprint down because there would be no need to make another car with all of the pollution that it would entail and the money could go back into the nations coffers

Especially when you pay for a independent yard cleaning services charge you more for one yard clearence than the refuse department get of you in a hole year
@SEAN INGRAM true but myth the refuse services get it they work very hard in all weather for very little literally if it carrys on this way your binman are gonna end up quitting and working in asda for the same money because everyone gives them abuse thinking they get all the cash I know refuse collectors who work at morrisons and aldi know because they get payed a lot better they only did that job because they enjoyed working outdoors
Yep it's wrong and people need to stop calling there refuse collectors crap on here and on the streets because if it carrys on this way in the future they won't be anyone picking it up as they will all fly the nest for greener pastures where they stay dry and warm all day stacking shelves or working in factories and warehouses for the same and in some case's more money. At my local veka the unskilled workers are on £10 '000 more a year than the local refuse collector's for sitting in front of a machine cutting plastic guttering and up windows frames. Then we're will they be having to take there own crap to a landfill and council tax won't stop or go down as they will still say they need it for other services tax in UK will never die they rip us of in every way including charging us workers to pay tax that goes to the nhs yet we still got to pay per item per prescription joke
From an annual budget of hundreds of millions. It’s insignificant which is why fly tipping is not a priority to the council.
It’s being more and more difficult to use council tip in some parts of the country because they are getting greedy.
I agree. Where I live, if you renovate your kitchen/bathroom yourself and take the old waste to the tip they won't take it because they say it's trade waste.
Also, they only take domestic waste from private cars, if you turn up in a van, or with a trailer, they won't let you dump it.
@@JD-wn3cc Not everywhere, most will not allow rental vehicles no matter what you have in it.
They should be made to pay for the cleanup as well !!
Better still, they should do the clean up !
Leave them in the car when its crushed, they won't do it again !
Your joking what this WEAK justice system
totally agree with H when it comes to travellers who definitely are the main culprits they turn a blind eye
It’s a few years now, but when my company had three vehicles stolen in four months by Travellers the police refused to do anything.
One of the stolen vans was seen in the Travellers camp and was easily identified because it was sign written. The police said they wouldn’t go near the place, and told us to get onto our insurance company.
Police will only ever go for the easy nick. I'm old enough to remember when the police were actually respected by the public.
Shameful but correct.
We hate Irish travellers.
@@swaldron5558 with good reason. Even the children are aggressive.

They should lose their license's as well.
This is brilliant, now what could we do about people throwing old mattresses and furniture onto the pavement outside their houses? This happens frequently here in New Zealand.
Name and shame the offenders.
Agree with the comments. If they fly tip, make it very costly if they are caught.
Nice one ,it’s the only way the fly tippers will learn .
Awesome. Now this is something that should be rolled out across the country great job
Next time leave the man in his car when you do your business
As someone who despises fly tipping but lives for salvage, it breaks my heart that roadworthy cars are rightfully being taken, but not going to breakers so the parts can be used. Great incentive, wasteful outcome
Crushing a perfectly good vehicle is wasteful and as environmentally-unfriendly as fly tipping. Take possession and sell them.
Superb. Congratulations to the council. Bring this in nationwide.!!
Excellent! Well done Wolverhampton - something I never thought I'd say.
£400 penalty ? Utter joke , hit them hard where it hurts . The penalty should be thousands & community service litter picking
This sends a powerful message. Well done! Wolverhampton Council.
Instead of crushing the cars sell them and put the money into the community.
I love the English way of understatement - " We shall be speaking to the registered owner of the vehicle "
Speak softly and carry a big stick...
Well done to Wolverhampton council. Job well done. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Go to the offenders address and tip proper household waste outside their front door, and charge them to take it away, although these scumbags will probably eat it and tell the kids it's a takeaway
Fantastic! Well done Wolverhampton Council.
Anyone caught fly-tipping should also be given community service, clearing fly-tipping sites.
Every council should implement this, also a page on the local council's website to post those found to be fly tipping for all to see.
On top of this an 8 to 16 hr community service order, specifically to clean up fly tipping waste
In London it zero tolerance to litter,i drop my receipt after leaving the store. The enforcement officer take identification and fined £150 .
@@RB1987Littering is obviously not acceptable, but enforcement isn't working, the streets in london are still filled with crap,
@@javeedsultan8484 yes you are right, the streets are no better and still mess.
If you can pay to buy stuff you should pay to get rid of your stuff . In fact it is free to do so. So it is already easy to dispose of stuff .

Great! Your neighbour pisses you off and all you got to do is find a fly tip site and drop them in it by saying you saw them do it.
Please show us us more, they have been getting away with this for years n costing the public millions a year. WELL DONE.
This is brilliant news love that you are crushing their vehicles
Vehicles of a certain age should be sold at auctions to recover monies owners should get points on their licence
Brilliant every council should run this program well done 👍👍
Fair play lads........
Just sell the cars ffs, what a waste
It wouldn't be such a problem if the council would give more affordable access to tip.
Gary Hyndman. I have a feeling the rates are set by the government, But I could be mistaken.
@@THEJR-of5tf
I have few mates who are pretty much dependent on access to the tip. It pushes their quotes up dramatically as they have to price accordingly. A lot of local councils have stopped domestic pick ups and punish friends and family with vans for taking it for them. I've seen a lot of "cleaned" domestic recyclables arriving at landfill too.
Wolverhampton, wow. One branch of my father’s family left there in the late 1600’s to immigrate to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania U.S.
Amethyst Anne . Could have made a lot worse choice .
Christopher C. ...... they were Quakers. Philadelphia and the surrounding area was a haven for all the branches of my father’s family, English, Irish, and German.

Why is the council seizing their cars when it’s not a vehicle crime? And wouldn’t it be better to sell the vehicles rather than crushing it?
Council has clearly too much power i hope it's only crushed if the fine isn't paid. There trying to basically scare people submit or we will take your property. I went to the tip a few months ago and i had a large container of oil as i service my car every 5k miles over time it's obviously built up they refused to let me use there facilities the container had about 20 litres or oil. No wonder people are fly tipping.
Hello, late to this one. but part of the problem is, councils charge to much to dump. I remember a time when you could out any thing out with your bin and it would be taken away.
Pillock ! Waste is NOT free to dispose of
@@gowdsake7103 Hello, no one said it was. just saying if councils didnt charge so much half the problem would go away.Just another fee for greedy councils, to feed off.
Or allowed builders free tip if they separate to recycle
How long back was that?
I think that is part of the problem now.. there are so many dos and don’ts and extra charges. Given the amount of council tax we have to pay every month, there shouldn’t be any extra charges.
Suppling skips? Supplying skips.
Fantastic. Come to London. We need cars and lorries crushed if they get caught fly tipping. Do it know.
Councils encourage fly tipping, they limit the amount each week you can dispose of, last year I moved home, I put out a large neat pile of cardboard, they refused to take it, I eventually burnt the lot.
At last Henry some true comments all the creeps on here. Council this council that there lazy an care more about money than the country side
@John Small haha
Totally agree Henry Ellis, also for the larger items the the dustman won't take away such as white goods, old furniture etc, the council should reduce the cost they charge per item for taking it away, if it wasnt so dear to ask them to collect it a lot less people would fly tip those items as well.
Why didn't you just put the cardboard in your blue bin?
The fixed penalties for fly-tipping are no where near high enough, but crushing cars is different and it’s a lesson the perpetrator, as well as the neighbours, will remember for a very long time!
On second thoughts, when you find the flytipper, take them in there vehicles, make them clean up there rubbish back into there vehicles, take it all to a crushing machine.all done.👍
LOL It sounds like you are suggesting murder as a solution!
@@TallSilentGuy ask the victims of these scum , let them decided.

More councils need to do this . I live in the countryside. Everyday rubbish is tipped in the hedges on the side of lanes .
Most Green lanes in the Countryside have Boulders blocking them.
And Nottingham council WON'T let Me go to just any Dump.......I'm allowed 1 site and I must be registered beforehand 😮😮
As someone who has been falsely accused of flytipping this concerns me.
Better off selling the cars to generate extra funds.

EXCELLENT well done, it’s a Council who have “GOT IT RIGHT”. More please

First I wondered what fly tipping was. Then I wondered why it was such a big issue. Then I figured it out. You're on an island; garbage disposal is a HUGE issue. Here in Canada, if anybody even bothers to file an official complaint, you get a fine, usually a token amount, and life goes on...
