Diamante2016 I didn’t think he was when I first heard him either, but after diving into his catalogue and lesser known verses, I can honestly say dude is up there with the best. I think people tend to hear most of his more mainstream music and generalize him on the basis of that, while overlooking his more lyrical content. I initially hopped on the MGK hate train after the Eminem beef, but after checking out his catalog, he completely changed my mind. Dude is up there with the best. I don’t think people realize just how good he is. I don’t even think Em realized how good MGK was until later on. And this is coming from a die hard hip hop fan who’s been listening to hip hop for over 20 years. I, honestly think that if MGK would have responded to Killshot, he could have taken the W, but for some strange reason he didn’t respond. It’s not for lack of skill either. It seems like he had a lot of mental health issues going on. Royce Da 5’9, Kxng Crooked, Yelawolf, Tech N9ne, King Los, and Montana of 300 all have vouched for MGK’s pen. Put some respect on MGK’s name. He’s been doing this for a long time, and like him or not, he’s broken just as many barriers for the culture as Eminem has. He’s one of the only big name rappers/lyricists, besides guys like tech, who has almost unanimous respect from the rock/metal community.
@Pierce Lozinsky But he didn’t. MGK’s “tickets to my downfall” album was the number one album on the billboard 200. If anything, the Eminem Beef put a lot of people on to his skillset and made his music more popular.
I think Raw, Pound syndrome, and No Shame were pretty good albums, and a couple of other songs from other albums and singles, in my opinion. He’s sometimes kind of wacky.
