My daughter graduated from Smith, she told me the same thing. The professor discriminated against my daughter, yelled, and was very mean to my daughter. After 4 years at Smith College, my daughter ripped her diploma in front of me. I felt so sad, I should do something when something happened to her.

The cops aren’t taking the calls they were ordered to go check out the situation and did so without harming anyone. If a serious problem were to happen and the cops didn’t show up it would be worse then what actually happened.

@@Uax101 NY Times article on February 24th writes about it. She lied and nobody ever apologized to the people she accused. They were harassed and made to do racism training. The older janitor who made the call to campus security, not police, didn't even mention race. She was in a restricted area. He was told there isn't supposed to be anyone in the area and to call security if there is. They basically shoved this story under the rug. Embarrassment I guess.

@Jo Sm apparently the old janitor saw her in a closed-off lounge (restricted area) and followed the protocol of mot confronting strangers on their own. I guess he never found out that she was a woman and belonged in the campus. I also assume she didn't know she wasn't supposed to use a closed lounge. He reported her to the security, and the security reported it to the police. It's a shame because nothing really happened here...it's all a misunderstanding 🤣

So why pick her out of the crowd? Smith is a women's college with a student population about 1/3 African Americans. The important word that drew attention was "man". She would have been in the cafeteria with MANY other African-Americans.

"The dorm cafeteria was closed at the time and no one was supposed to be in there. So the janitor called campus security to come check things out (just as he was instructed to do if he saw anything unusual) never mentioning that she was black. Then the unarmed campus security guard told her that the cafeteria was closed. That's literally all that happened."
i do think she might have been just very sensitive, thinking she got singled out, but what happened was not right to the people involved( the janitor got fired) and shame to the journalists for not doing their due diligence
This video should really be taken down. How many millions of people have watched it and believed she was telling the truth, long after the investigation and New York Times article?

For anyone who actually cares about truth, she was actually trespassing. Students were not allowed in her particular area at the time. The employees politely inquired as to why she was in a restricted area. The employees were immediately fired and called racist by the school. an internal investigation then showed they had done nothing wrong and that racism was in no way involved. The student in this video has posted the the private addresses of the faculty on her social media, and they receive constant threats to this very day. Their lives have been ruined.
Good try... No one is ever racist (sarcasm). If she was TEACHING Chemistry that summer wouldn't she have if not all but some teacher privileges. Or no privileges for her because she is black? Everyone knows if she was white no one would have bothered her.

This is why faculty politely approached her to ask why she was there. Notice there's no hostility in the video. Notice teachers weren't in there either, invalidating your second point. She had equal privilege to be in the area as everyone else, which is none, which is why she was the only one there. Saying racism exists is not the same as saying that 3 faculty members are automatically guilty because they have white skin, which is the actual definition of racial discrimination. As for your last sentence, everyone ASSUMES, not knows, that if she was white nobody would have bothered her. In reality if she was white this wouldn't have been newsworthy because it already happens dozens of times a day across campuses. You should be disgusted by the doxing, by 4 faculty members losing their jobs, one of which was not even at the scene. I said it before and I will say it again: This is a form of harassment. Anyone caught and identified contacting the police for bogus reports against minorities should be held accountable and liable for legal fees, then as this trend continues, escalate with possible jail time. The first time this happens to me, if I can identify who made such a bogus report against me, I'm pursuing legal action with a law suit.

I would want that too, but at the same time that could dissuade people from calling 911 when it is warranted. I think they should train 911 operators to investigate over the phone what the situation is and ask the person why they are calling if they see explicit illegal activity and if they are only calling on a trespassing issue that they caller should approach and ask. If they lie to the officer on the line that should definitely be fine 1000$ or more.

A law needs to be passed for false 911 calls. They're a waste of time, manpower, resources, and provide distractions from the possibilities of actual crimes being committed at the time of. The caller should be forced to pay a fine and face possible jail time if not able to pay, should it be found that no crime has been conducted. I'm black and I've had this happen. I was in a clearly marked work van, with badges and vest, uniform and everything. Sitting on the side of the road in the van eating lunch when some white woman called the police on me. Why was I sitting on the side of the road? I was making deliveries in a rural/country area and the nearest gas station or really anything was too far off my route to justify spending the time to drive there and back.
Why do these complainers get to remain anonymous when it's clearly a frivolous complaint? That should override their protection.

Turns out, as per a recent New York Times article, this girl’s story was complete crap. She was eating in a closed lounge she wasn’t supposed to be in. Because there were kids on campus for the summer program, and everyone on campus had to have an authorized background check, staff were told to call security on any unauthorized people. Smith hired legal counsel after the incident and found that the visually impaired 60 year old janitor who called security on her used zero language that suggested racial intent, and the unarmed security who arrived respectfully cleared everything up. Total nonissue. This brat got an elderly working class man fired for doing his job and has the gall to act like a racial victim. She’s a monster.
Don't forget she also accused and doxxed staff who weren't even there at the time. What repercussions did she face?

A few years ago, I attended an Ivy League university as a visiting student. The campus police were called to investigate a suspicious person in the dorm laundry room. Me. I showed them my ID and they apologized and left. Similar incidents happened throughout the semester. I am a white male and was at the time 50 years old ( a protected class ). She was in no danger from the police. Show your student ID (which you WILL have because it unlocks your dorm door and makes vending machines work) and tell them to kiss off. If they did NOT respond to calls about possible intruders on campus, then she WOULD have been at risk of harm. They were embarrassed as I was annoyed but it's just not an incident worthy of national news. Smith is a "Women's College" ( with as of last report, ONE male student.) as the initial call was reporting a man, it was sufficiently unique for the college to look into it based upon that alone. The student body at Smith is about 1/3 African American. One idiot making a foolish call about a "man" in a women's school which is 1/3 African-American does NOT imply institutional racism. It is more likely that the school had hired an idiot to clean tables.
