- The answer is obvious but let's take a look at one of Love Live's best character arcs and the possible intentions behind probably the most blatantly yuri story Love Live has ever had!

Okay so this just appeared in my recommendations and i love this video, Yu is my favourite character ever in anything and similarly, YuPomu is my favourite relationship in anything so I have a lot I want to say so um sorry in advance haha. Firstly you did a super good job with the video and covered a lot of amazing point and I love the conclusion of you don't have to see them as a couple but their arc and story is greatly enhanced by it which I completely agree with. I think they work super well as friends, better then any childhood friend group LL has ever done but when you look at it as their feelings running so much deeper then that it just makes everything even more sweet and wholesome.
The first bit I want to talk about is the focused episodes in S1. This is my favourite arc in all of LL and nothing even compare to it for me, I adore how it's slowly built up to subtly over the whole season as everytime Yu is fangirling over someone else you can usually see Ayumu get jealous it even happens when she meets Haruka in Kanata's episode. But the one thing I disagree with is calling Ayumu toxic here, while what she did is 100% not healthy and something she needed to accept and grow from as you said, I don't think those unhealthy behaviour form from a bad place persay but instead from Ayumu's own anxiety and worries about the future. Its very clear to see Ayumu has self confidence issues and we see this a lot in S1 eespsically early on and we know the one person she feels comfortable with no matter what... Is Yu, so I never personally interperated this arc being born from Ayumu wanting Yu to be her's and her's alone and more from her being scared of losing who was at the time the only person she truly felt comfortable with, to Ayumu at this point losing Yu would essentially be like losing a comforting blanket, she feels safe and at ease with Yu and losing that terrified her and the arc is her slowly accepting she can take it off and Yu won't be going anywhere and that she herself can be more. If that makes sense.
This is also back up by a very small thing in the scene where when Ayumu asks Yu is Setsuna is more important, Yu with zero hesitation says no. She wasted no time and didn't even show the slightest doubt (which as an aside tells me while this might have been the worst Ayumu has been. But it's not the first time sh's had these worries and Yu knows what to say) and we see Ayumu ease up and relax from this, she's happy once she's got the confirmation Yu still thinks of ayumu has the most important because to her the blanket is staying on...And it's only when Yu talks about her dream, her personal dream, Ayumu freaks out again because now while no one is 'threatening' to take Yu away, Ayumu is scared she'll go away on her own. Basically how I've always taken this arc is Ayumu is just... scared and anxious, things are changing and the one thing that has always been a constant is changing to and that scares her so she's clinging onto it because she's not ready to jump into a possible unknown instead of it being a thing where she just wants to make it so she is the only that matters to Yu, again I hope this makes sense. I'm bad at explaining haha.
But past that I just want to share a ton of little cute things that make them even more wholesome and precious, for example after S1 LL released a bunch of books that told some side stories about the niji girls that take place between S1 and S2. Ayumu's story is about her getting a live show while Yu is away on holiday wth her mum, Ayumu wants to tell Yu about it but doesn't out of fear Yu will leave her holiday so she turns to the club and notably setsuna who help encourage her to do the show... However it turns out Yu was watching the stream of the live and she tells ayumu that it made her miss Ayumu so much, she decide to end her vacation, literally leaving her mother just to go home to be able to be with Ayumu again. This is canon and freaking adorable, also in the audio version of this which has an extra bit, Ayumu reveals the times she is her happiest self, is when she's with Yu, she says she loves all the support and love she's been getting and continues to get and she wants to keep growing but the times she is her happiest self are the time she's alone with Yu.
And then during Yu's story, Yu is trying to write an article for an idol website and she hits a road block and after spending all night trying to work on it and making zero progress she contacts Ayumu and essentially confesses she's stressed out and worried she's not going to do a good enough job, Ayumu comes over and comforts her and once she calms Yu down she gets Yu to promise to take a rest and when she wakes up Ayumu will help her, Yu agrees to sleep but only if Ayumu promises to stay with hr like she used to do when they were kids which Ayumu agrees to. I don't even need to say how precious and just absolutely amazing these two stories are because it shows growth on both their parts while also showing just how much they love and support each other.
A small thing I want to touch on too is their seiyuus who both hugely support the ship with Agupon being probably the biggest shipper of YuPomu on the planet and this kind of goes into the staff point you made, Agupon makes no secret to her love of this, multiple times she's drawn Yu and Ayumu in a heart together while on public broadcasts and Hinaki actively encourages Agupon when it comes to this because she finds it really cute. So there is actually a fair bit of support on the staff side both from the seiyuus being supportive of it to staff... allowing them to be so open about that support.
And then there's season 2 where they're just a couple, plain and simple. We get a ton more of them being supportive and loving to each other along with the end of the season also showing them being fearful of a future where they're not working towards the same goal which could possibly lead to them drifting apart and it's something that scares them both because they do not want to lose the other and it's precious and shows they are serious about their relationship being a long term thing. We also get som other cute moments like in episode 10 during the training camp when they're watching the sky together, in the japanes script Ayumu says "the moon is beautiful, isn't it?" which for those that don't know is a common way for Japanese people to confess or say I love you, this is straight up a romance scene, you do not include that line without that being the intent on some level, they know what they were doing here haha. And then just small things like during the amusement park Ayumu goes next to Yu on rides, she knows Yu will be scared on because has done this stuff with Yu before and while it's subtle if you see Ayumu is constantly smirking and smiling in that montage with her attention focused on Yu, this I love because it just shows how well Ayumu knows Yu that she can plan around this and just how comforting Yu finds Ayumu she will cling to her when scared.
I could honestly go on and on and on including tons of other scenes from seiyuu/event stuff like how Hinaki and Agupon closed off 5L together including walking off stage holding hands. But this is getting long so I'll nd it here with this final bit.
Yu and Ayumu I think are the perfect couple dynamic in LL, they love and support each other with all their hearts and because of that their stories are both intertwined in a way nothing else can match and they elevate each other in a way no other characters could even attempt. And I love this because they're always there for each other and they always understand the other and this only grows as the series continues and they get even closer, I hope some day we get a full on confirmation because I feel like the only place their relationship and story can end is with them together.

AAAAAA Brilliant video! There should really be more videos about Love Live yuri shipping, I'm actually very happy this video exists.
Though I would've added how the scene of Ayumu catching Yuu and Setsuna's "moment" together really feels straight out of a romcom/drama anime. ALSO, that scene with Ayumu dropping the cookie she was eating when Setsuna said that she thought Yuu and Shizuku were on a date (plus the added little detail of her picking another one up). The staff for the episode *clearly* knows what they are doing.

There has been canonically dating in Love Live, well as canonical as Rin asking Hanayo to marry her and then the two kiss. I don't think it's too unlikely for it to happen again, and I genuinely believe there will be at least one other canon couple in Love Live soon-ish, and I feel that if there is another couple it will most likely be Yu and Ayumu. But that might just be me being really gay.
I've actually talked about that manga a bit in a previous video! ^^ It's release is an interesting story, apparently it was supposed to come out in 2015 but then was pushed back with no explanation till 2019, it's release is obscure enough to where the one released after it that was also originally supposed to release in 2015 is just listed by the Love Live wiki as never having come out still lol. I unfortanatley can't help but wonder if the Rinpana stuff is the reason it got pushed back, I'm glad it did eventually get out it's adorable ^^

The imagery! Rainbows everywhere! After they realize they will be there for each other no matter where each other are. When Yu gets to express herself through her dreams. It's just rainbow after rainbow! 🌈 🏳️🌈 🌈 🏳️🌈 The creator is making a POINT! FIRMLY. Hahaha! Yes! This is absolutely a couple and I haven't even seen this anime. How have I not seen this ridiculously gay anime?!

This is a really sweet video! I've been loving Yu and Ayumu's relationship since the anime aired, and I really loved seeing them grow together and the way they had their arcs in season 2 too, so it's great to take a look at all of that again with that question in my mind, as I do ship them myself too.

I think they really are a couple compared to LL sunshine and project. In the previous ones, anyone can see it as they want, because there's no clear picture of whether they are really a couple or just very good friends. In other words, if you are in 4th grade, you'll see it as a very strong bond of friendship. Which may be actually the case. I personally I related You when I was watching LL sunshine because I was facing the same problem as a 13 year old. Like I didn't want my friend to hang out with another girl I don't like. But Ayumu shows it clearly: "Be mine" and then in every scene they're together they hold hands?? 😅

Nope. Ayumu was simply a very possessive friend to Yu in their 100% platonic relationship. Not joke. If you don't blatantly go into Niji (or LL for that matter) wanting to look for what you clearly already decided is there, then one couldn't reasonably come out of the anime thinking that Yu and Ayumu are lesbians. This is why nobody likes weird projecting shipfags.
