It was simply amazing to see Rafa back at a high level (even if far from his highest level). A HUGE difference from Barcelona. Hopefully his body stays in good shape 🤞
It really wasn’t such a high level. De Minaur played worst than Barcelona, did more unforced errors and didn’t put enough pressure. Nadal just played better than him, but both played at a medium level.
@@michelewilliams4702You’re just a HATER!
@@michelewilliams4702all these pundits that know how to measure levels from a UA-cam screen 😂. This is your opinion. That was high level IMO.
@@michelewilliams4702I agree it isn’t a high level. De Minaur didn’t play well and Nadal had more unforced errors than usual. Still it’s a nice win.
@@michelewilliams4702 yeah it looked like old de minaur who does amazing fast defense but not much offense. He looked like he placed his shots with way more safety from the lines, didn't punish the shorter shots from Rafa too.
De Minaur is a good player. For Rafa to come back and beat a player of De Minaur's quality is a testament to his grit, determination and passion for this sport and his craft. A huge win for Rafa. Let's see how long his body can sustain this, we don't even know what level of pain he is currently playing through just to put out this effort. Vamos Rafa!
none, zero of pain
Yep. I still remember those days when it got to clay season, everyone was competing to see who would lose to Rafa in the finals.
Medvedev s stamina is something else, out of this world. 😮😮
Truly impressive! I believe his secret is the extreme thinness. Everyone tries to build muscle, but for a tennis player of his height the best thing is to stay as light as possible. It's the best way to have speed and endurance on long rallies. A little less power, but more stamina.
Nadal winning makes my day better. Dead serious. My man was pumped the f**k up for this one!
Same feeling.😀
G.O.A.T ❤❤
What a miserable life you must have😂 who give a s. If a tennis player wins or loses, it should not affect so much your life, unless your life is sad and miserable😅
@@usermatissedon’t judge people. People are different. He or she may be happier than you.
@@borisgurevich5504 I strongly doubt. My idea is much more likely, his or her life is definitely miserable for the reasons I said
Oh man I can't express well enough how excited I am by this Rafa resurgence! What a performance by the legend, honestly a pleasure to see this level of play from him.
Mensik another young tennis player with huge potential. Sinner, Alcaraz, Mensik, Fonseca, Shelton and Rune are the new generation for the next few years.
Doesn't make much sense to me - first of all you name players from 17-22 and secondly you mix established players with guys, who showed great potential but haven't made it yet, as well as last but not least there are many other young players who could make it, like Navone for example.
However I do agree that those mentioned will highly likely be playing for some of the titles...
Yeah, my ideal top10 in the next few years is something like Alcaraz, Sinner, Rune, Mensik, Shelton, Fonseca followed by Daniil, Hubi, Zverev and Tsitsipas. I'd love for all of them to win a slam (for those who haven't already).
Where’s draper😢
@@sarahosborne1154 Drapery lost quickly & badly to Hubi 6-1 7-5. Icy, pressed handshake from the Brit. Hubi didn't care, lol.
I've been calling him Menslayer since the moment the beat Sir Misery in Doha. 2024 Next Gen Finals is gonna be dope: Fees, Menslayer, J'oww!, Mickey, Shank, & Van Ashy.
Although Sonego loses matches, he always smiles, he is a gentleman.
No, he doesn't always smile. He smiled because he and Sinner are very good friends.
@@DavidDavid-km8hd .
I watched his matches with other players, he also has such smiles when he lost.
Benjamin.
I agree with you, Sonego is a cheerful man even when he lost.
@@DavidDavid-km8hd No, you're wrong. He does generally smile, and he's always a gent. But yes, he and Sinner are good friends.
@@MikeAG333 He wouldn’t be too happy after getting bageled if it was not Sinner.
The ocean covers 70% of the earth, Medvedev covers the other 30%.
Sinner is amazing! Whats in the water in Italy? Players are going beastmode!
This comes and goes in waves. In the nineties there were scores from Sweden. Ten years ago it was all France. Today is Italy. Spain is always up there.
Good theory....except Sonego is also Italian, so the water didn't do him much good today!
@@borisgurevich5504 1988 we had 10 guys in the top 50, now our best guy is 201 :(
Greetings from Sweden
@@sultanoswing one has to lose. Still a good player
I am particularly impressed by Daniil here. He looks like he's moving well on clay
almost like he could win a master 1000 on this surface !!! :0
@@loiseau.He was the champion in Rome
@@utkarshpant5297 no way
Yeah the serve got worse but the movement improved on clay it seems
I personally thought Arnaldi would be a dangerous matchup for him early in the tournament. Medvedev historically hasn’t been great at Madrid even though on paper it should suit his game decently well, and he looked very frustrated at his practices as well. Arnaldi has been on a solid stretch of form and his game translates well to the clay.
When Arnaldi was up 4-2 early I felt like, “yeah, Medvedev’s in trouble.” But he dug himself out using great defense and baseline ability, which is great to see. Still want to see more out of the serve though.
7:31 outside of his on-court screaming celebrations which I dislike, Sonego always seems to be a very nice guy on defeat or victory.
Happy for Rafa, very impressed by the ability of Medvedev to get those balls ))
Sinner so dominant. Looking for the Shapo highlights though
Well done Jakub! 👏😍
What about the Bublik match? That was filled with highlight worthy moments.
It was the funniest, most entertaining match of the day. Shelton's 59min match was blink & you'll miss it tennis. Ruthless on serve & return.
Mensik is 18 years old ? wow every day some new great youngster potential appears , interesting years are in front of us lads !
Agreed😊
I’m surprised no one is mentioning about Thiago Monteiro’s monster F groundstrokes!!
Yes, he can really whip that forehand.
Sonego is a sweetheart and great player. Dimitrov just made too many errors.
Nice to See That tsitispas is a Gentleman since this year in loss . Huge inprovement. !! Realy Great can be Proud
He was like that just because was with a weak player and he can play the card "he did the match of his life and I was tired for the m1000 in Montecarlo (robbed thanks to the umpire!) and the final lost in Barcelona (well deserved).
@@usermatisse Lol, Rune got robbed in the TB vs Sinner but no one's complaining.
@@vijayla21 he won the set anyway mate... So it's a completely different story
@@usermatisse Both of them faced an unfavourable call. In fact, Rune got 2 in that TB. He challenged both of them, Sinner didn't. Rune was good enough to win that set, Sinner wasn't.
@@vijayla21 Sinner was too gentle with tsitsipas. Next time I'm sure he'll stop and won't lose an already won match and master 1000
Rafa is back in heat
😂 I don’t think that means what you think it means. I.e. Rafa is ready to get pregnant
No, you got it wrong, he's not pregnant now, he was pregnant with Alcaraz before. But when Alcaraz got born and now he's one of the top next gen players.
Love Grigor ❤❤❤❤ even though he lost
No me perderé ningún partido de Nadal hasta que se retire , fue hermoso ver a la fiera suelta en madrid .,
Sinner and Sonegos hug >>>
WHERE are the rest of the matches!? Damnit, lol
Forza JanTheFox 🦊🔥
I don't understand why Alex was only sending the ball back at Nadal and not going for the line. Making Nadal run. Very weird to me. The lack of consistency in tennis lately.
perhaps..first match in Madrid...not the same as Barcelona. This is onle opf the "good"things about not being seeded...getting that round 1 in (albeit didnt have much of a practise with Blanch)
I was wondering that too
De Minaur is not a great clay courter to begin win and then if you heard the crowd in the match he was probably shaken up by the whole atmosphere -- they were giving every Rafa winner a standing ovation and chanting Rafa's name through the whole match. Probably messed with his shot selection.
8:28 gotta love that creativity 🤩
Yes Jannik Sinner, i guess he will be champion here in Madrid Open
It would be a great thing for his n.1 project😊
sinner looks hungry
A small part of me feels that Alex was going a bit easy on Rafa with the amount of balls he was hitting right back to Rafa's general strike zone. To me, Alex didn't have the same fire, but I'm happy to see Rafa moving ahead in the tournament. Good luck for the next round, Rafa!
They still don’t show the ruud highlights
Mensik and Fonseca are hungry and it shows.
As for Rafa, I’m so elated that he won…but I’m being carefully optimistic
Fonseca lost handily to Norrie 6-1 6-4. Menslayer is a real threat on hard & clay with that massive 1st serve, trademark Czech backhand, & a solid forehand (when he has time).
Quite amazing how things turn out. Last week I remember De Miñaur applauding Nadal (a nice gesture) after beating him, while Nadal was leaving the court... perhaps De Miñaur was doing this as a farewell to a legend in the sport. Little did he know that he would face Nadal again, let alone losing in straight sets....
Amazing daniil
Mensik's defense, King's revenge, Meddy's clinical performance, Monteiro's rockets and Sinner magic.
Shelton's dust storm on the dirt. 6-0 6-2 in 59 mins. Shortest match of the day. Ruthless.
Сам ты клинический больной 😂!!!
Brutal Meddy! Its cool
Great win for Rafa! Hopefully his health will hold up, and Rafa will be able to compete at Roland Garros.
Fffing great tennis in Madrid 2024. Wish I was there...
Med seems to like playing 3 sets 😅
Apart from compromised movement due to the long chronic foot injury one major weapon that is clearly less effective compared to his younger days is his bread-and-butter shot, cross-court topspin forehand. This stroke used to be so highly effective particularly on clay and against his right handed opponents who had to deal with high bounce topspin coming deep to their backhand side. It would be less of a problem if his opponents happened to hit two-handed backhand but for anyone who had one-handed backhand it's was so difficult to parry the shots effectively thus opening themselves up for an attack or a killer shot next.
Nadal was still used that pretty effectively to win his last RG but since then both the injuries and likely age factor has sure hampered his play. Like most tennis fans, I also wish to see him do well at perhaps his last RG because his relentless determination, and style of play is, unlike that of most players on tour nowadays, is always good to watch.
Remarkable win from Mensik, great match to see from both sides. Of course Dimitrov is better on faster surfaces.
Cannot believe they cut the 6-6 point in the first set tiebreaker. Possibly the point of the match 😂
Simply phenomenadal
Medvedev is the most "seesaw" player of them all.
Carlos when in good shape is something else ;)
Rafa is again with his clay wizardry.Hope that somemore magic is left in him.Vamos emperor of clay.❤❤❤
Love watching every sonego vs sinner match knowing that there will be the warmest of handshakes at the net
Where is bublikkkk
He beat Carby Bandana three sets in 90 minutes. The opening breadstick was a BAD move for RCB. It was hilarious to watch Bubbles nonchalantly use touch & feel to completely neutralize the tryhard baseline pace. Drop shots, slices, lobs, & some volleys completely undid the dirt dog. And Bubbles was mockingly grunting while doing it. Fun match. After that, Shelton won 6-0 6-2 in 59 mins.
@@got2bjosh i know i mean The Highlights
@@ekbeeer Yeah, just saying for those who didn’t catch the match.
Sonego grunts might be awful at times, but he always smiles at the net win or lose.
Hmm, Monteiro might be someone to watch. Solid fundamentals.
Nice win for Nadal against a quality opponent. Shows he is improving. However, I'm always afraid his body won't hold up for long.
that's rafa not playing at his best, what a champ
Silly as always from TennisTv, repost almost exactly the same highlights that already exist in separate videos and leave out some many matches without any highlight. Bravo 👍
to me personally it's unexplainable
n leaving out thrillers for one sided matches.
Great Jannik..attention to Monteiro😮
Monteiro on fire 🔥
Arnaldi deserves more. In my heart ❤️
Le retour du 🐐🐐
Shelton finished 6-0 6-2 in 59 mins. The shortest match of the day. A ruthless dust storm on the dirt.
Now nadal has clear path to semis. Let's see what happens.
Medvedev? Shelton? Red hot Monteiro? I would hardly call that a clear path although it’s far from impossible for Rafa-sinner to happen. One can only dream
@@gebmanini6465monteiro and shelton are easier than de minaur cuz of the kick that nadal puts so it’s easy to neutralize power, and from there hopefully rafa can draw out errors. meddy will be a diff story, that’s a matchup to watch
I would be very surprised
He moves like he’s wearing cement shoes
@@Conitor Shelton won in 59mins 6-0-6-2. Shortest match of the day. Monteiro had insane serving numbers against Olive Oil. Both guys posses more firepower than De Miniature.
Where's Ruud-Kecmanovic? Would have thought the Barcelona winner deserves a mention...
they got a separate vid for them
It was the last match of the day & a straight sets win. Shelton had the shortest match winning in 59 mins 6-0 6-2. No respite.
That Kid Nadal Got A Bright Future.. 👍..
Thank you, Rafa ❤
Mensik match was so predictable while watching the first set itself. He is really good!
tiago ganhando do tsisipas foi doidera em
Seeing Nadal playing and winning is beyond happiness
Forza Rafa 🙏👏🇪🇸🇮🇹
Ver a Rafa jugar así es del sueño tremendo viene Rafa siiii
Gotta love seeing Nadal dust off that racket again. Special, even if he hadn't taken down minaur. I honestly didn't think this would happen this year.
thiago monteiro's hitting so hard
Mevedev crazy 😊
Being a Dimitrov fan is masochism
😜
What an absolute pleasure to watch Tsitsipas get upset.
Chokedal is back, tie break 6-2 became 6-6.
The level of the next gen is
Менсик лучший!
always a joy to watch Nadal playing on the clay.
Grigors Federer spell is over for this time - guess well have to wait another 11/12 months for the next time guys
I'll watch him regardless of outcome.
Dustin Brown is the real baby Fed. Also Alcaraz plays more like Federer than Dimitrov.
Sinner for the win 🏆
This turn surprise me Monteiro and Nadal
What about Mensik? 🤔
@@JackieMoon22 Well, Dimitrov is not a monster on clay, nor does he seem to have won amazing titles! But Mensik is certainly interesting
Big day that many seeds have lost. Rune, Tsisipat, Dimitrov and esp. De Minaur against someone ranked 500+.
did someone watch carballes baena match? Wtf was that hitting towards Bublik with both serves at the end
His pride was hurt.
I saw the full match before watching Shelton win 6-0 6-2 in 59 mins. Carby Banana was foolish to breadstick Bubbles in the opening set. After that, Bublé stopped playing games, remembered the Nagal upset at AO, and went to work. He used touch & feel to completely undo RCB all the while grunting in a mocking fashion. Top 20 for a reason.
@@got2bjosh yes I saw that. Bublik was a master technician destroying CB with drop shots, slices, between the legs, power serving and underhand serving. CB was so pissed. He looked bad.
Ten servis byl neuvěřitelný
I don’t get those moon balls from Rafa, even when he was in his prime. He puts himself in a defensive position more often than necessary. His amazing defensive skills, incredible forehand, and just pure talent is what has gotten him out of trouble in a lot of points. He’d get smoked by someone like Sinner.
Jacub Mensik perfect player
Mensik! 🎾🎾
Even though he lost, Dimitrov has definitely been playing better the last couple of months since he got his hair transplant. Must have given him more confidence.
Monteiro's coach is Dolgopolov?
I wondered the same :)
I hope that partnership works out. I was a big fan of Dolgopolov.
🇧🇷
It seems like rafa will get much better if he gets his confidence back. You can see how he improved even during the match. His shot got faster and deeper
He is him!
Nadal is BACK!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥

Let De Minaur be his opponent in Rome as well as RG....knowing ATP... can't rule that out ,too.
What a win for Rafa... and to do it in straight sets is definitely a good sign if his body holds up! 🙂
Meanwhile, Sinner is playing at a downright scary level... he made Sonego look like an amateur!!!

Why no Ruud
When I was at the age of Nadal and Wawrinka, I also started to gain weight due to an increased desire for sugar.
