you are somewhat right, the dancer is likely a man as the dance is not for a Geisha (dance too fast, kimono style is also not like the ones for geisha). He doesnt act as a geisha though. He is a kabuki actor for female roles called onna-gata. Only men are allowed to play kabuki so they dance and play female roles, too.
As a Chinese person who loves traditional Japanese & Chinese dance as well as European ballet etc... I feel that it is fair to make ONE criticism of this Chinese lady who made a great effort to study the Japanese movements. She is missing the essential nuance of a true Geisha dance: the STATIC POSE. If you analyze classic geisha movements, what defines the style is a robotic precision: the hands and the entire body will continually hold absolutely still -- "freezing" into a perfect pose for just a second, then going back into fluid motion. This lady does not do that. It takes away from the authenticity and the beauty. But otherwise, it's wonderful seeing someone Chinese delve into Japanese arts. In Japan, one also finds traces of the culture of ancient China (which one no longer finds in China nowadays).
Daniel Wang I have watched a ton of Geisha and maiko videos. And you are right this person whoever they are lacks that special something and to me it has to be the complete knowledge of the dance itself. This Gacy's movements are not fluid and perfect. None-the-less it's still very very beautiful
imo i always hated how robotic geisha are, so i'm glad she isn't robotic like them and has a little more oomph in her movements. this is why i enjoy kabuki more than watching geisha. tbh i feel like geisha move too soulless sometimes. i get that that's how they are supposed to be, but from years of watching geisha the movements tire me out.
I didn't know she was Chinese, I do enjoy The Maple Dance. I was born there in Osaka, Japan back in the 50's but I do remember certain sounds, beats or songs from back then. There's a classic movie "Sayonara" with Marlon Brandon, Red Button, Ricardo Montaban, soory I cannot think of the Japanese actress. Suehiro Matsunaga/ Hiram Eberhardt
It's bizarre how she is clearly singing the lyrics and dancing every word; while at the same time her lips don't move. It's like she's singing with her movements. I've never understood that phrase before until I watched this. So cool!
This is a Taiwanese performer invited to participate in a Japanese maiodori dance event in Japan, and my question is whether the performer is a he or a she, the person's name is very masculine.
in that day ween i, was find this clip with this song, i, was had a future vision, about a transcent of a soul intoo a women a soul from a doll , in the next day my mother was die,d , i, hawe the power to poot the soul in a doll, and the doll soul remain alive, how much the doll bot i, was not make the doll bifore shi die,d so i, was ofer my self in place of the doll.

I just googled and found out the dancer was 79 at the time this video was filmed, wow
Is that true? Wow, amazing!\(//∇//)\
She looks within her 20's?!
Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. The perfect mix between surreal, beautiful & even cute at times
That is so awesome,
So so so so so so so beautiful
So lovely...She doesn't even look real.
I believe this is a man performing as Geisha. Men do perform as Geisha sometimes. But this is just so beautiful in the music is exquisite

She doesn't sing. She's just dancing along the song.
In japanese dance we don't dance and sing at the same time.

in my imagination.
some Japanese comments says she is not good.
I'm learning the japanese dance. And I also think she's not good. Maybe that's because she is chinese or taiwanese which can be told by her name.
But she has some kind of good taste, I'm glad her dance make foreigners enjoy it.
:')
I think "she" is a "he" in this video.
