I'm glad to hear this. I'm a girl who grew up loving SSC (and I still do), and I get so tired of people (mostly boys, I noticed) putting it down for being "too girly" and "lame." Nice to see there are boys who enjoyed the show.
i had friends who had strawberry dolls , i snook a few minatures to my grandmas which i was allowed them i played with them and still have a few today . p;um puddin was always a boy in the specials in the comics too but the 1985 tv special he turned to a girl because kenner didnt think he would sell i think kenner was totally wrong in this concept
This is the cutest friggin thing I ever seen. I was a 90s baby so I don't remember these episodes, but my cousin who was about 10 years older than me handed down lots of Strawberry shortcake toys to me when I was little. Never knew these little episodes were out here for me to see.
0:23-0:25 - ...So THAT'S where the term was first coined! ~15 years before it was Mainstreamed! :D 6:54-7:26 - ...Heckit, that PieMan's TOO good at his job. x.x 8:27-8:43 - The very definition of Photographic Memory!
And right about 7:36, this part was cut out, the only part missing is where Strawberry Shortcake left the hotel and cry as the cars passing by and staring at the street sign where she says “Big 5 Avenue” and the traffic light goes green and right where she’s heading to Sentimental Park. That’s why this part was chopped out where it was edited for TV. If you want to see this version uncut, watch the original uncut version on UA-cam.
Oh, that's Minnie Mouse herself, Russi Taylor, as Strawberry Shortcake. (She also played the nephews in 1987 DuckTales, and Young Donald in 2017 DuckTales).
This special was aired on WPIX-TV (channel 11) in 1981, and this was 40 years before a new animated series called “Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in Big City” is now on UA-cam, and Strawberry Shortcake was given a decent new look if you haven’t seen it, and the city is completely different than this one. This special was also released on VHS by Family Home Entertainment in 1982 and it has been re-released on home video over the years. It was also released on DVD by Paramount in 2015 along with “The World of Strawberry Shortcake” as a “Double Feature” release. The soundtrack album was released on Kid Stuff Records in 1981 which contains the entire special as heard here.
I believe that this aired right after Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol on WPIX In December, 1981. After this aired, then the 7:30 Action News with Pat Harper and Steve Bosh aired.
@@patriciadarby421 That was a month after Strawberry Shortcake came to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in November 1981 where she came to NYC after this special aired. The first airing was from April 10th, and then reran around Christmas time 1981 which was after “Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol” was aired.
I found a pic from a NYC edition of TV Guide in the TV listings that “Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City” was aired at 6:30PM Wednesday evening on WPIX-TV (channel 11) right after reruns of “Happy Days” as “Happy Days Again” at 6PM. Thanks to Paul Saur for that find. The date for this special was October 14th 1981.
With commercials!! 27:50 Anyone who thinks Lego blocks are the worst things to step on barefoot never had THESE babies...although they did a pretty good job subbing for doll brushes, too.
too sweet i miss analog rabbit ears tv so sweet to see this thank you for posting this treasure.my fave part od rabbuit ears tv was that sweet staticy sound
Weren't these originally prime time specials? That's what I thought I remembered, but I was 6-8 at the peak of Strawberry Shortcake's popularity. And as a boy, I wasn't as into them. The dolls smelled good, though.
I remember when you posted these separately. You were my hero for posting that Dream Dancer doll commercial. And no, Strawberry Shortcake was not an actual TV series in my opinion. Just a series of TV specials (she had six in total).
There was no logo at the end if you go to 29:30. I wonder if this special would have the WildBrain logo on there, because WildBrain is the company that owns this and the other five original “Strawberry Shortcake” TV specials along with the 2003 series called “Strawberry Shortcake” and the 2009 series “Strawberry Shortcake’s Berry Bitty Adventures”. In addition, WildBrain also owns “Arthur” and “Caillou”. The only one missing at the very beginning is the Kenner sponsor tag with the announcer saying “This ‘Strawberry Shortcake’ special is brought to you by the many worlds of Kenner toys”, and the first five seconds of the opening scene where the talking sun would say “Welcome to another day in the life of Strawberry Shortcake” and cuts right into the house where he says “And what a day!” and that’s where it starts right at 0:00 since the first five seconds of the opening is missing. There was also the part at 7:36 where it was edited out from this airing where Strawberry Shortcake was crying after she left the hotel where the cars drove by and she looks at the sign that says “Big 5 Avenue” and then continued to cry until she reached Sentimental Park. That part was cut out from the original airing.
Yes I was a kid watching this!! Back in 1981, one of the few boy's who watched this. It was so much fun!!!
i am too i thought i was the only one i thought at the time who liked strawberry shortcake also its fun to watch too coolies.
@@radionoakmont7756 no, ur not alone! I loved Strawberry Shortcake and her friends. I used to watch this and the Superfriends.
@@seanpowell1661 thats super awesomes loved that series too

I remember this famous character. When I was a little girl, I had a coloring book with her, Custard her cat, and the wicked person.

They didn't make a TV series of Strawberry Shortcake back then; just 6 TV specials from 1980-1985.
Happy 42nd Anniversary Strawberry Shortcake in Big Apple City From 1981-2023!
Big Apple City Berryworx, And Kiki Lime

Russi Taylor passed away in 2019.
Minnie Mouse’s voice is on Uberduck, so I used it for the voice of Strawberry Shortcake.
@@darrylh1971 We all know, and she was replaced by Cristina Vee as the new voice of Young Donald Duck in the 2017 DuckTales.
Yep. That was Russie Taylor.
Strawberry Shortcake was one of Russi Taylor's first roles.

I have this vinyl record still from when I was little. I was obsessed with SS. I had all the dolls, accessories etc. I miss my childhood.
The Berry Best!
I had this on VHS I watched it everyday for about 2 years (born in 84)
I remember being 5 years old in 1981 and watching Strawberry Shortcake on WFLD Ch.32. Good memories!
I used to watch this all the time as a kid. We had it on recorded VHS.

That's bullcrap! The Pieman won fair and square!
I have to wonder if Lemon Meringue was the inspiration for Bitch Pudding from 'Robot Chicken',
Strawberry Shortcake was a pothead. LOL

I don't know if they were made for prime time, because I always remembered them being on the independent stations shown as mid-afternoon specials.
