In 2021 last time I went to HHN on a SAT we were waiting for an hour for popular houses even with Express. I know they sell out express and limit them but honestly if If I'm paying an extra $170+ for express passes then wait time should be limited to 20 minutes or less.
The main difference between the 2 is the amount of control you have over your visit. With the Express Pass, it's possible to get all 10 houses done in a reasonable amount of time, but you can also choose the order of the houses you want to go in. With the RIP tour, it's a guided tour that takes you on a set path over which you the guest have no control, unless you upcharge to the personalized tour. The RIP Tour is great for someone who may want to do HHN only once a year, whereas Express is honestly better for people going multiple nights. For me personally, I try to get in a 4-night weekend where I have 2 nights with Express, so I have 2 nights dedicated to the houses and 2 nights for the overall experience. I also do my own research on the lore and the creative process for the houses, so I don't necessarily need a tour guide telling me details I already know.
I will agree that is one big downside of RIP is the lack of any kind of control over what you do and the order you do it in. Yeah you get everything done in one night but you have such a strict schedule to keep up with

My hubby and I are going on the RIP tour but our tour start time is 5:10 We’ve done the VIP tour during the day a few years ago Can’t wait to cruise the park at night!
We'll be there in one week- thanks for the great walk through! We're doing back to back days of Stay & Scream, with express passes for each night. I figure we'll knock out about 3-4 houses via stay and scream before the lines start getting long, and just go with Express from that point on each night, so we can potentially repeat a few that we did at the start.
I love dead mans pier, its so beautifully put together. I also got lucky and seen it with lights on for team member preview night and it does not disappoint!
We’re considering doing the daytime tour next year, because while the scares were there, they weren’t as much as anticipated, and I really loved the art out into the houses and would love to see it on our time, and possibly express or just continuing with our scream early if they have it again next year
From what I know, the express pass helps you to wait less time than being in regular line, it's my first time buying express tickets and I'm going on Saturday, so I have that in mind. 👍🏼
sorry for the long essay, but wish all a good time. it’ll be my 6th year in a row doing express during September. been through every house since 2017 with single night and express, each year getting to run 6-9 of the houses again. (torture on the body, but we make our money worth it) the usual insider tips have always been true (i’m going thurs. next week, and seemingly still true for this year) try to get to houses in the back of park IMMEDIATELY (we are always able to do one or two in standby, to later hit them with express. don’t be afraid to ask the attendant if the wait time seems accurate to them. they’re always cool about. USE EXPRESS on any houses that are less interesting to you. even if it’s early. (unless a super low wait. again, asking nicely about accuracy is really whatever. the team members totally understand.) lastly use the standby time to gauge wether you should bother with your express. standby wait often seems to correlate to the express wait. at the end of it you picked the perfect time of year for HHN. we often do avoid weekends, but with express, i’m fairly certain you can get all of the houses done. hope you have an awesome time. we wouldn’t be going as consistently if we didn’t 😈
I went everyday it was sold out , friday saturday and Sunday last weekend ...with express we did not wait more than 15 minutes when the que was well over 45 min to 65......you will be fine and its not waste of money. What i did feel was a waste of R.I.P yes we got in front of the line but we could only use the bathroom at set times and stop to watch any show if the majority of the rest of the group rules in favor. I rather do express and enjoy my walk on my own pace. To each thier own.
@@BallsInMyCup_ actually that's the plan! :) We are ALWAYS waiting in such long lines and we only get to get in maybe 3 or 4 mazes... I know the express passes aren't a 0 wait kind of ticket, but it's still faster, plus we usually arrive early for early admission so what we're gonna do is go downstairs first (I'm going to the Hollywood one, just to get out of confusion lol) and we're gonna tackle all three mazes first which are The weekend, Killer Klowns, and Legends Collide, maybe get on some rides too... Then we'll go through harry Potter and go to the scarecrow maze and Halloween, then terror tram, lastly we'll go to the three last mazes... Dude thank you so much for this advice though! 😭😭😭👍🏼👍🏼😍

I've never needed express/RIP tour, too much money. If you go open to close you can definitely do all 10 houses in one night... I just prefer to use my money on other Halloween events or save for merchandise..... 🎃👻🕷️
I've seen people do all 10 houses in one night, without express. It's possible, if you are there for stay and scream, and line up for a house ahead of time(or get in a spot where u can run to a house not in stay and scream.) And then if you also stay really late. I wish people would stop pretending like you NEED express of NEED rip or NEED multiple days. You can do it all in one day, which is why premier passholders only get one free night. If it was impossible to do, Universal would give us 2.
I never said it wasn’t possible to do in one night. I’ve made videos on how to best do it in one night without express. This was focusing on the benefits of express vs the much more expensive RIP tour option.

I think that's a wise option if you can swing it in my opinion, especially if it's your first time going to HHN or you are coming from far away.
