I got my company license today, I can provide Audit/Bookkeeping/Tax services, But honestly mind is blank on most of the stuff you mentioned, specially getting first client and how to price, like I honestly don't know.
There is nothing stopping a book keeper from preparing or filing tax returns. Only CPAs can perform audits and only a CPA, EA, or attorney can represent a taxpayer to the IRS. There is not a lot of restrictions on tax preparation.
Definitely, I feel like it's pretty common for professionals working in a small team or solo to offer one or the other because its really hard to do both. Tax season causes you to get behind on books and vice versa. The biggest impediment to tax season I have is clients with terrible books. Unfortunately I am not in a position to just turn those clients away, but its what makes tax season suck. @@peterpeterpeter007
I personally would not charge by the hour. I would review the overall scope of work and give a flat rate based on the clients gross income, # of accounts and frequency.

Yes, essentially, anyone can do bookkeeping and you don't have to offer to do taxes.
