I've been getting water buildup seeping into the car over the bottom of the door seal. I've cleared all the door seals and even tigersealed the speakers and all the panels behind the door card to the door but it still leaks. Do you think there's any way that a blocked scuttel pannel drain could somehow cause water to seep back into the doors? or is it more likely that I need new door seals/a door weather strip?
The best advice I could give to fault find the issue would be, open the door and pour water on the outside of the glass (like I did in the video) and see where the water is coming from. The water should only leak out of the drainage holes on the underside of the door. If the water looks like it's coming from the bottom of the door card, take it off and check the seal around the big plastic panel because that could be faulty. Mine was on the drivers door, so I just cleaned it up and used tiger seal and sealed all around it, that stopped the water getting in. Unfortunately this happened after I had recorded and uploaded this video so I couldn't include it. If it looks like it's only coming out of the door drains, check the top of the seal and make sure the window is sealing to it/ closing fully. I know that some people have issues with the window going fully up, I think its a calibration issue, but check that that's not your issue too.
@@day_dobbie I poured water over the door with it open and the door card removed and it seems like it's seeping through the bottom of the speaker. I'm gutted because I tigersealed around the speaker in the summer, it must not have worked. I remember not being able to get all the the speaker bolts fully out so I just pried it back and shoved some sealant under it, but it seems like it hasn't done a good enough job. I'll have to give it another go sometime!
That’s a shame! But at least you know where it’s coming from. The speaker bolts are an absolute pain! The biggest thing is to make sure the area is dry and clean before applying sealer, otherwise it won’t be able to properly stick and create a good seal.
Thanks again👍 problem solved. MK3 same as MK2. I used a 7.5mm rubber cord as a sealing cord. A bit thicker but still works. 6.5mm would be better. Tested last night in the rain and this morning totally dry inside. Now can install the new plate light 😄.
There's quite a few videos out there on door card removal, this is by far the best, and it warrants its own video separate to water leaks. Thank you.

The proper way of removing the window wipers is to put your window wipers in service mode, by using the button under the right stalk. Once there in service mode they will go to the up position. Now you need to get some tape and mark the position on the window screen before you remove your window wipers. If you don't do it you will have a nightmare of a time when you put the wipers back on getting the position right.
I know you have to do that to replace the wiper blades so they don't hit the bonnet and scratch your paint, but I didn't know the same process applies when removing the arms. Thanks for the heads up and I'll remember that for next time!👍🏻
Thanks for this video. Im wondering if one can simply just dump those front plastic windscreen drain holes “cover” , seems like its just very easy to get blocked up again?
No Problem! I did consider this myself but I'm not 100% sure, so I just left them in.
I'm doing this tomoz, weather permitting. Foggy windows, slightly damp passenger carpet, no smell tho. Plus my brake light strip died two days ago. You've nailed it all in one vid. Nice one

well presented, you didn’t miss out the nitty gritty details, which others wizz pass.
Just a bit advice.
1/ Wiper arms , have patience when removing them , re grease for future removal.
2/ scuttle panel, easy to snap take it easy.
3/ I removed wheels, dropped the inner arch plastic cover.
You see the shit collecting in the recesses.. I used elbow grease chemical, and a brush then jet washed it from top to bottom
Looked brand new after.

Young David, absolutely brilliant demonstration of how to fix what must affect all of us TT owners out there. Spooky, as only the other day I cleaned out my front drains below the windscreen, but I had not seen this fantastic video and I was not brave enough or had the knowledge to remove the scuttle panel so I only took out the two left hand screw bolts and slipped my hand in and pulled out so much...erm...grit, yes grit, moss and leaves I was amazed at the volume from such a small place, I did both sides and probably a good cup full from each, then with my hose turned down I let water trickle in, then low and behold...a good run of water behind the wheel arch, perfect, but it would have been so much easier using your method. Then to the boot, as I have a little water sitting around the battery whenever it rains hard...not sure I am confident to do what you have done. In the meantime, I just wanted to thank you for your approach and attention to detail when explaining the processes you have covered, easy to follow, well done you!

Thank you very much!👍🏻 It's crazy how much can get blocked in such a little space, and how negatively it can effect the car😬 Fair play to you for doing it the way you did though, you still managed to sort it and I'm sure your car will thank you for it👌🏻 I just used some black silicone from Halfords, but any silicone sealant will do really. You could also use clear silicone if your worried about how it may look.
Thanks for the video, very helpful indeed! I have an issue where my heater fan has died, when I pulled the glove box down to get to the fan there was a lot of water, the water has fried the resister… do you think blocked front drains can cause water to end up in the heater fan area? TIA
Thanks! Sounds to me like it could possibly be a leaking heater matrix. I can’t say for definite though, was it coolant or normal water? If it’s coolant, then I’d have a look at the heater matrix and the pipes that go to it👍🏻

Very good video .. appreciate it, cheers. To save on all that unscrewing and dismantling,etc ..I'm thinking of drilling access holes in the black plastic scuttle panel above the drainage holes .. thick enough to push a length of wire through to clear the drainage holes and a thin piece of hose to blast water through ( I do that with my rear spoiler crainage holes).. then fix rubber sealing grommets in the drilled holes. Anyone done this, anyone thinks it's a bad idea? PS, when those two drainage holes are blocked..how / where does the water get in to the inside of the car? Thanks
I can't say for sure but I also can't see why that wouldn't work? sounds like a good idea maintenance wise, it would save a lot of time😅 As for the water getting in, I honestly don't know. I just know that what I've read on forums and stuff, everyone seems to suffer with water ingress when the scuttle panel drains (and others) get blocked. Either way, if they're blocked, its best to clean them out👍🏻

Mine were pretty tight the first time I took them off! But they will come eventually, try some penetrating oil (WD-40)

Question for your expertise would faulty boost diverter valve put car in limp mode or would faulty oil pick-up pipe cause limp mode which 1 would you attempt FIRST diagnosis machine oil pump pickup pipe

Did you solve your wet carpets? My passenger footwell on my 08 Roadster is driving me nuts....
I did. I think it was a mix of blocked drains, but also a breached windscreen. My windscreen had come away slightly and was letting loads of water into the car!

When you applied the sealant on the spoiler did you wait for it to dry it up and then put the spoiler back or you put it back on while the sealant was still wet/fresh? TIA

I would close the boot, check to see if it's higher or lower than the bodyside and adjust accordingly. I haven't needed to adjust mine yet. Also, if you can wiggle your boot up and down slightly while it is locked, it may be worth extending these stops slightly to prevent it. The only way I know of is trial and error really. .
