    Peru is home to many amazing snakes! Most people are excited about anacondas, bushmasters or coral snakes, but there are many more! We filmed 20 snake species during our first trip to South America. The highest snake diversity is in the Amazon rainforest, but some cool snakes live also in Pacific deserts of Peru. In each episode we will show you 5 species.
    Episode 1 - SNAKE SPECIES, AMAZON RAINFOREST
    Common lancehead / Fer-de-lance (Bothrops atrox)
    Rainbow boa (Epicrates cenchria)
    Amazon Scarlet snake (Pseudoboa coronata)
    Brown-banded watersnake (Helicops angulatus)
    Common blunthead (Imantodes cenchoa)

    Lovely footage of beautiful reptiles, in a class of its own on YT. Can't tell you how much I envy you on your snake field trip to the South American rainforest. Seeing a fer-de-lance in the wild, that would be a big lifer for me. Keep up the excellent work.

    Beautiful video! Am curious since you do a lot of night-time / low-light shots - how do you manage lighting and setting up of your shots in general in such challenging field conditions? The few times I've tried to take videos of snakes, I've found it very beneficial to have a handler around to keep track of the animal / help make a shot look more "natural"!

    I have wondered for a while, so I am going to ask, what is your favorite species of snake to work with, film, hang around with, whatever? Is there one species of snake that if you could just film for a year that you would? You have mentioned in this video and in others that a snake is a good swimmer. Can't all snakes swim? If I were to toss a King Cobra of a Gaboon Viper into a pool, wouldn't they both be able to swim? Or is there a species of snake that would just sink and drown? Any way, as all ways a great video. I am running out of superlatives to describe your channel. The incredible videography and calming nature of both the snakes and the sound are just glorious. I really enjoy this channel.

    • @LivingZoology
      @LivingZoology  2 роки тому

      It is really difficult to pick one snake species, we have some favorite groups. We love elapids and vipers. We love cobras, mambas, rattlesnakes are fun to work with, etc. If we could pick one snake which we would film for a year, it would be the King cobra. Well, all snakes probably know how to swim, but there are species which you rarely see in the water. Many arboreal snakes don't come down to the ground. We mentioned that Rainbow boa is a good swimmer because it is also partly arboreal. For example, we don't know how good swimmers Bluntheads are (we never saw one in the water or a footage of them swimming). King cobra is a great swimmer, even a Gaboon viper would swim quite easily :) Thank you again for your support and it is an honor to read every comment you write!

    Love your shows. I have loved Immantodes cencoa since i was a 7 year old with herp books, 50 years ago. Never had one in my collection , but your camera work is the next best thing. Have you handled one ? is their body weight like small amazon tree boa, or lighter like an ahaetula nasuta [spell?]
    I wish i could project your videos on all my walls and loop them along with the cricket/frog/cicada sounds in your soundtrack .
    Keep up the great work.

    • @LivingZoology
      @LivingZoology  2 роки тому

      We are happy that you enjoyed watching this video! We hope that snakes species from Peru will be interesting for our audience :) Imantodes are so light! When you handle smaller individuals, you have a feeling like there is almost nothing in your hand! Very cool snakes and difficult to film! They are so tiny and when they start to move, it is extremely tricky to focus on their tiny bodies :D There should be an option to create a playlist of our videos, which you can play over and over :) The rainforest sounds in the Amazon were awesome!
      We sometimes take people with us, but we still have to pay our own expenses (traveling, food, accommodation, etc.). So when we put a team together, mostly other members pay a bit higher price, because we organize everything for them and organizing trips takes months and months of work :) It helps us to cover at least some costs, UA-cam money is not yet enough to cover our expenses for filming trips unfortunately.
