From Horrible Mistake to Better Structure: My Journey
Вставка

- In this episode we’re going to talk about using 3D printing to create something new and unique. And we’ll also discuss my "tiny" mistake that set off some soul searching and a guilty conscience, but ultimately culminated in a much more satisfactory outcome.
Today, in part 3 of this video series on building a complex structure for Crown Cork & Seal, we'll explore how 3D printing came to the rescue to provide a unique piece for the structure... and how forgetting to ask one simple question nearly derailed the whole thing.

Mistakes are some of the best teachers we can have. Looks real good
Agree 💯 unless you feel too guilty to fix them. 🙂
I do like your Sisyphus reference.
That looks much better! I realize that having to have something redone, especially by a friend, can have a lot of internal torment.
Your final result looks great.
I also got a chuckle out of your intro....
Thanks, Paul. It was a weird mental conundrum. I'm glad it all worked out in the end.
Definitely looks much better! Thanks for sharing the process. It doesn't always go right the first time.
If it did, I wouldn’t have a channel! 😆
Great intro! Ever watch Bill Hader’s dateline impressions? Comedic gold. So glad you reprinted to scale. It looks so much better!!! Efforts we’ll worth it.
I love Bill Hader, but I'm blanking on Dateline impressions. I'll have to go look for some on that new-fangled UA-cam thingy people have been telling me about. 😜
@@ThePixelDepotLLC lol. For sure. Some of my favorite Hader work.
Joe, great looking structure!
Thanks 👍 It's getting there.
Excellent video and insights, Joe!
Thank you!
Joey the Geek's got a reputation!
Absolutely!
Interesting and great intro. 😊
Thanks, John!
Joe, I make cardboard mockups of everything. While I am a scale guy, the issue of compression has to often be used. On the paint, Narrow Gauge Modeling Co. has over 8,000 Floquil, Polly Scale and Model Master on the shelf.
A mock-up wasn’t going to help here. The dimensions of the tower were fine. It was the detail that seemed oversize.
And 8000 bottles is a significant collection. 😮
@@ThePixelDepotLLC these are the tricks in the hobby that are elusive and if discussed are buried in the archives of publications past.
Ha! I’ve had the scale problem too growing up
It has its pros and cons.
@The Pixel Depot I used to wargame when I was a lot younger, and the difference between ground scale and figure scale always bothered me.
Thats looking much better, the whole structure's come together nicely. I have the same issue with things being out of scale - having modelled in OO, seeing HO scale vehicles on an OO layout was always an issue for me (back when OO scale vehicles were hard to source).
I'm pretty happy with it so far! As I said to someone else, the scale thing is a blessing and a curse. It would be SO much cheaper to get away with Matchboxes on a layout (and I'd have someple to put the ones I still have in the attic from childhood). Maybe I need to model S scale? 🙂
@@ThePixelDepotLLC You can never have too many layouts.....
Some in my household may not agree. 😄
Looks so much better. I thought the first one looked way out of scale and not good at all.
Agree. The good news is I found someone who could use the larger scale version, so everyone wins!
Hi Joe. I don't mind you being a huuuuge fan of Hitchcock (genre) but this intro was waaaay ott 😂
Chuck sounds like a great guy.
It had been a long time since I'd done a wacky intro. It was time. :)
Finally! Someone who shares my eye twitch when I see hot wheels on an Ho layout 😂
Oh God, yes. Some people just don't see the difference, but it jumps out at me immediately. Plus, they don't have the detail that the rest of the modeling typically has.
Haha, I never mixed my toys for the same reason - hated mixing types and scales
Exactly!
I love it already
Thanks!
My only critique with this tower is I would have added some architectural detail to hide the joining of the two parts, as that seam is a little obvious. But, im sure there are other ways to hide it that I'm not aware of.
In admitting to my own mistakes, I picked up stuff to start soldering feeders to the track and, while practicing, burnt my finger because I was too focused on the work than where my big sausage fingers were. My ego hurt longer than my finger lol
I did consider it. But I didn't think it was that bad. We'll see what happens over time.
@@ThePixelDepotLLC perhaps it just showed up on video more than in person.
@@AnonOmis1000 Maybe. Maybe not. I'll give it a closer look and some consideration. Since the prototype doesn't have any kind of architectural detail down the sides, I'm hesitant to add any, but not opposed to it if it will help the overall effect.
@The Pixel Depot while it's not prototypical, would vines look good on that tower? I suppose the tower is too tall for vines to climb that high. In the end, it's your layout, if you're happy with it I'm not going to complain. Regardless they are beautiful prints.
@@AnonOmis1000 I’m not sure they’re too high, but it think the way the tower is oriented over the other parts of the building that it’s unlikely they would grow in that pattern. But I like the idea conceptually.
🤠
Awesome video and thanks for the shoutout!
Happy to!
Did he use pla? Or abs? On your 3d printed building
He uses FDM.
