Saw it last night and just am blown away. Jordan Peele is absurdly talented and a true visionary. It makes me so happy that this movie is so grounded in its filmmaking and concept and writing that it doesn't rely at all on jump scares and gruesome kills.

100% agree. Basically _just_ as good as Get Out. (I really don't even like comparing the two films, anyways, because they're _completely_ different.)
I would give both of his films 90/100. I mean, if I was going _super_ specific, I might give Get Out 92/100 and Us 90/100, but I hate doing that with pieces of art (i.e. cinema).
Will definitely end up in my Top 25 films of 2019...maybe even Top 10.

What a masterpiece for our generation! I love Peele's commentary at the beginning of this interview when he tells us that he doesn't want to divulge too much information about his initial interpretations because, like any great work of art, he wants us to draw our own conclusions/theories. Brilliantly, the film alludes to notions of the unknown and repressed aspects of not only ourselves; but also our role in society, our responses to environmental stimuli (or lack thereof), and the stimuli's effect on human-conditioning.

What this film meant for me.
    1) The obvious-that we have met the enemy, and it is us. We have let each other down. Hands across America failed--we've failed each other.
    2) We are all connected, and our failure to help assist others less fortunate *will* come back to bite us--even if we're so well off as to think ourselves safe and untouchable. We are one--when the individual suffers, so does the collective. Native American's knew this. It's the same with the environment.. Wealthy polluter's don't think global climate change can affect them--and it won't affect them as much as the rest of us--in the beginning, but in the end...
    3) On a psychological level, when we repress our traumas, we become our own worst enemy. Addiction, abuse and denial are perpetuated through the generations. The repressed and unhealed trauma *will* rise up and make itself known in untold and destructive ways.
There are personal traumas and then collective traumas, like racism. I believe that deep in our unconscious, we know the destruction of past/present racism. We know it. For whites, It plays itself out as white guilt, denial, or perpetuating even more racism in all it's deviant forms. We must subjugate parts of our humanity/souls to live like this--like the rabbits in the tunnel.
Jordan Peele is brilliant. Some people may find fault with this film, but who else is even attempting to make movies that make you THINK. That might actually change someone? The only other film that was this thoughtful and thrilling that I've seen is Get OUT (again, Jordan Peele ), and Mother, by Darren Aronofsky.

Director Jordan Peele squanders all the preceding brilliance of "Us"--plot holes included--by failing to resist a too precious bet-you-didn't -that-coming ending. The wink and a nod ending, bound to evoke double-takes and head scratching, asks audience members to forgive a self-indulgent finale that obliterates any semblance of logic that the movie enjoyed prior to the ending. So many questions left unanswered--questions that completely undermine what went before...providing one actually thinks about the ramifications that flow from the final revelation. Yes, Jordan Peele possesses talent and creativity to burn. However, one's sophomore film should not display a penchant to flaunt one's cleverness, particularly at the expense of the narrative coherence of the film. Not every horror/thriller flick needs a final twist...unless that twist can hold up structurally, cohere with the rest of the work, and not pull the rug out from all that came before.

it's interesting, these types comments only come up when Black art is created.....it's like when Black Panther came out and non-black poc were like "WHAT ABOUT OUR MOMENT??? HMMM??? WHEN is there going to be a [insert non white and non Black ethnicity] super hero"
it says a lot about you....I guarantee you and people that think like you don't have this energy for white productions, I'm willing to bet you've never gone to a single white centred movie youtube video and commented some shit like "hopefully we see more of this in the future with other races latino or asian", why you think this is an acceptable response to Black people (I should also point out that this is an all Black production...an effective answer to "if you want to see Black people get represented, MAKE YOUR OWN SHIT"....Jordan casted them because this is what he wanted to see) ....I really think you just feel undermined by Black representation because you feel like it should trickle down through you before it reaches Black people. I have no doubt that you and some people that think like you are well intention but the fact of the matter is, it's a really tired and garbage rhetoric. Make your own shit or champion your own causes.

I wanted to like this movie but it was so bad, terrible pacing, unrealistic character decisions, the dad is useless at defending his family, the villains explain the plot and choose to 'wait' to kill the family, scenes are built around dad jokes, the movie is about privilege but the family isn't really spoiled, just nice people who are attacked for no reason. The movie was so aware of how it could be talked about, it tries to hit every grandiose homerun rather than just doing basic things to survive a horror situation. Let's protect ourselves by climbing into a boat, twice, to kill a clone with a boat propeller and a flare gun...and leave your family unprotected to do it. Just a really disappointing movie people are pretending to like

Lol this comment is based off of foolishness and ignorance. Anyone can speak clear English especially since the black man created many languages across the world. Learn some real history. Clean your comment up. Lol
