My buddies and I all rode 80cc and 100cc Yamaha street bikes in the mid-1960's, except for one of us who rode a 'Honda Trail 80'. We laughed at it and called it 'the tractor'. It couldn't keep up with us on the highway, but could go anywhere on the off-road far better than we could. And it NEVER failed to start after the first kick. Great bike. Tough, reliable, economical. Wish I had one now.

Well except for the Earls link front suspension, a horrible leftover from the pressed steel Honda Dreams that should have been retired in the early 1960's. I had a 1970's K1 trail 90 with a PowRoll 125 stroker kit, it hardly needed the 4X4 transmission and it had telescopic forks.
I am picking mine up today and I really appreciate your original review. I don’t expect to ride it that hard at 73 but it is nice to know it can take it!
Best test of this bike on UA-cam, this is exactly what I want this bike for. Unfortunately they are backordered in the US, Honda didn't anticipate the demand for it.

this video is absolutely brilliant. the absolute best review i’ve seen for this bike yet. a lot of others are going easy on the bike and not giving it a proper test. driving it through the water, muddy trails, wet grass and busted branches! truly spectacular. thank you for the honest review.
Now this is a proper review mate! Exactly would what this bike for, a nice little commuter during the week, take it camping and fishing on the weekend in the mountains
As the owner of a CT110 with dual range they do go anywhere but you have to have grip. On a steep slope on grippy rock you have to lean right forward to stop the torque lifting the front wheel. When I come to grief on long steep climbs it is always loss of grip due to the dual sport tyres. I am looking at getting at getting another rear wheel to set up with a knobbly for off road use only. I think the 125 would have made it up that slope without a run up if it had a knobbly.
First bike was a street Honda 90. The small cc Hondas are always a lot of fun. The CT or trail bikes can go almost anywhere. You won't be fast, but you will get there and back.

I couldn’t think of a better bike. Early in 2020 I helped out a Swedish tourist doing his around the world journey on a Honda Grom, you can find the videos on my channel. The CT125 could handle it for sure.

I'm much older than you; I grew up in the sixties when we had those mini-bikes made with old lawnmower engines and no suspension other than the fat little tires. They were a blast! I would've thought I died and went to Heaven if I'd had something like this...best wishes from Texas-
The only thing better than a Kiwi CT125 review is a Kiwi CT125 review filmed around my own back yard here in the Hutt... awesome stuff SBS - and the team at Motomart!
I’ve visited Wellington several times but never explored either of the Hutts. What a cool place for riding Small Bikes! I need to head back and do that whole track.
@@SmallBikeStuff it looked pretty good - used to ride there when I was a kid (a looooong time ago)... but now I've gotten my grown up licence (well, learners)... having fun like that looks just the ticket!
@@SmithyInWelly It's a wicked bike. I would recommend it to anyone. Of course baring in mind the speed limitations with open road. Otherwise it's pretty much perfect.
Your right, I haven't seen another ct125 video like this and riding a small lightweight bike flat out is way more fun then holding back on a big heavy beast
Puts some trials tires on and some metal footpegs for more grip. Like all the other old guys on here I had a CT70 as my first bike back in 1976 and my older brother had a CT90. FUN!!!!
here is USA it was taken out in the desert and up a local track, by a rider who has the older Honda trail bikes, and he found that it bogged down uphill, and needs a low range
Great bike review! The CT125 would be so much better if they increased the size of the fuel tank by one and a half to two gallons AND made the luggage rack chrome (the painted version is going to be a mess of scratches in no time). Additionally, maybe better tires. Great bike though, love it!
Great job on the video, and you definitely gave the CT125 a proper thrashing! I just took delivery of mine a couple of weeks ago, and I'm about to start adventure camping with it. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
I just found this video again and realized it was this channel as well! I found this one a day or two before whim purchasing my Trail 125 a couple years ago. I was on the fence about even trying it due to lack of the dual range gearbox and figured it'd be completely lame. This video gave good reason to believe it was at least a bit of fun offroad 😂 I got it at a price I couldn't lose at, but didn't want to buy it with the intent to resell. I make fun of it alot, but still have it in the garage 👍
Thanks so much for the comment. What an awesome connection. It's truly impressive how much the fuel injection and more power can make up for the lack of low range. Of course it would be nicer with it, but it's still a premium bike without. These days I own whats called a Honda Wave, the model that the CT got it's engine from. It's a Thai made family commuter with enough underseat storage for a full face helmet - it's even got a higher air intake than a CT125.
There's decent enough alternatives. The GY230 Hawk retails for about 1/4 the price and has five gears twice the HP, a time proven pushrod 230cc engine cloned from the CG125 pizza bike engine that was originally designed in Honda of Brazil. It's Chinese but these bikes run for ages in most of the undeveloped world's countries, parts are cheap and they're easy to repair and upgrade.
It probably handles even better with the proper offroad tires. That is such a nice trail. We can't have as much fun as you did. We need to wear helmet in California and no freeway for 125cc. Great review. I am having fun just watching you. Thanks.
Time machine! My first bike was a Trail 90, bought used in 1970. A few year later, traded up to a Hodaka Super Rat, which IMO is a classic. BUT, the Honda was easier to ride, more fun to ride, and zero drama! No repairs, and not fast enough to spark fear… Will certainly get a Trail 125 for my retirement gift to myself! Now at 65+, slow is good!
Excellent footage and review! Looked super fun. If u have a minute, I'm looking at this or the Suzuki VanVan 200 for a first bike. Do u think the VanVan could do the stuff you did in this video & have similar amount of fun? VanVan looks cool, has plush seat, and 200cc but this Honda looks dead easy to maintain & has stuff like ABS & disc brakes on both wheels.
I've ridden a Van Van 125 - but not the 200. It's a good bike to ride, no doubt. It will hold open road speed better. But it would be a bit more cumbersome to operate off road - though it could definitely handle it. The big thing with the Van Van for me is the huge rear tyre is difficult to source in New Zealand - not impossible, but options are very limited. Arguably the Honda has more options available off the shelf. I would probably choose the CT125, but it's no secret I'm a Honda fan. If someone offered me a Van Van 200 I would definitely take it for a ride and have a tonne of fun, I just prefer the Honda. I think with this choice it comes down to personal preference.
Learned how to ride on a 1968 ct 90. Owned many bikes since then. I’ve never owned a bad Honda. The trail 90 was number 1 for me. I’m seriously considering the new 125. Thank you. Awesome review. Awesome bike!
Nice review. How does the weight feel? I seem to remember the CT90 was like 180lbs or something and this bike is 260?? How do they make it so much heavier? Does it at least feel comparable?

Thank you so much for watching! Every country deserves this great bike.
I’m thinking these might not be Euro 5 so you might be waiting a while.
I'm much older than you; I grew up in the sixties when we had those mini-bikes made with old lawnmower engines and no suspension other than the fat little tires. They were a blast! I would've thought I died and went to Heaven if I'd had something like this...best wishes from Texas-
The Trutest style right? Very cool! Thanks for watching.
Those mini bikes are still made to this day! Cool little things that can be made for a couple hundred bucks
We had the Deltek here in Australia, with pull cord starting! 😂
And you can barely even get the bad kind of ticket lol
@@SmithyInWelly It's a wicked bike. I would recommend it to anyone. Of course baring in mind the speed limitations with open road. Otherwise it's pretty much perfect.
Your right, I haven't seen another ct125 video like this and riding a small lightweight bike flat out is way more fun then holding back on a big heavy beast
Thanks so much for watching!
Great fast paced rugged review. Makes me more confident my deposit on one was worth it. Thanks
100% worth it! I really want my own one now.
ISTR reading that the original postie bikes had a dual-range gearbox. One normal, one low for boggy/dirty/super hilly terrain.
after watching this, i can only imagine how much more fun the riding would be with good offroad tires!
“I’m really high, I feel good!” Me watching blazed asf 😮😂
Great bike review! The CT125 would be so much better if they increased the size of the fuel tank by one and a half to two gallons AND made the luggage rack chrome (the painted version is going to be a mess of scratches in no time). Additionally, maybe better tires. Great bike though, love it!
Here’s a CT125 Trail to try out…
*Goes swimming with it*
Honda's like to go swimming.
You sir are a legend! Thanks for doing a proper review on this little trail bike! Very entertaining and informative.
Thank you so much for watching. It was a wicked little adventure on a very capable little bike. Glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing Honda shop down south, with both a RC45 and NR750... wasn't expecting to see those in the sticks!
NZ is a beautiful country. Go visit it. Rent a CT125 and see all of NZ with it.
@@MrMoneyHelper, if the flu had originated NZ, would you call it the Maori flu?
12v, cdi, efi, abs on the front .. it's much heavier, wider, taller but no hi/lo transmission which made the ct90 a bonafide billy goat.
Great job on the video, and you definitely gave the CT125 a proper thrashing! I just took delivery of mine a couple of weeks ago, and I'm about to start adventure camping with it. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Awesome! I look forward to your further CT125 updates. They’re great so far
I just found this video again and realized it was this channel as well!
I found this one a day or two before whim purchasing my Trail 125 a couple years ago.
I was on the fence about even trying it due to lack of the dual range gearbox and figured it'd be completely lame. This video gave good reason to believe it was at least a bit of fun offroad 😂
I got it at a price I couldn't lose at, but didn't want to buy it with the intent to resell.
This was an awesome review!
Thanks for watching!
CT125 will be my first bike! Awesome video. Thanks a lot!
The new CT125 looks so fun!
It really is!
By far the best review of a bike I've ever seen...well done bro👍
Good video, Bud. I quite fancy one of these but nearly 8k in Australia. I'm not sure its worth it, but you make a really good case! Cheers
Definitely not the cheapest but they've been selling quite well.
Now I'm seriously considering this Honda Trail 125. Thanks for this excellent review!
Check out another video with the CT125 here. Thanks for watching!

That looks like a great place for trail riding. Thanks for the review!
It was my first time there. So good!
@@SmallBikeStuff Where is it? Looking to move to Hutt Valley soon.
I'm 64 and the Hondas have been used as postie bikes in Australia for as long as I can remember so they can't be to bad.
They are a nice bike for sure!
Murphys law says one of those mud holes is gonna be hiding a submerged log or big stick just out of sight below the surface!!!😳😄
It probably handles even better with the proper offroad tires. That is such a nice trail. We can't have as much fun as you did. We need to wear helmet in California and no freeway for 125cc. Great review. I am having fun just watching you. Thanks.
Awesome stuff mate, stoked you gave it a good ride, great review - Kent @ Motomart.
Thanks for having me down your way; monkey video coming sooooooon.
I have a 1974 XL125 that I still ride to this day! 🇯🇵🏁
Great review! Thanks from England
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for producing great content on cool, small bikes! 🇳🇿 🇬🇧
This is a proper demonstration for a proper little motorbike! Well done.....!
I'm glad you think so! Thats what I was aiming for.
For Sale: lightly used dealership demo.
hahaha. i would have done the same. good review, thanks.
The shop is keeping this one - but it handled it well. I would still have ridden my own bike the same way.
Man, I enjoyed the video as if it was me riding. You sure had fun! Excellent review!
Great review! Seriously considering one of these instead of a larger trail bike.
If I had the choice I'd have both. If I could only choose one I'd choose the CT125.
Enjoy that bike. Don't hear about Hodaka's too often now. Thanks for watching!
@Nomen Clature yep! The Hodaka was perfectly functional, and even today, is absolutely gorgeous!
Honda should turn your video into a sales commercial---they'd sell a ton of these things!!
I agree! In fact I just took a screen shot of your comment and sent it to Honda New Zealand!
I like it for its specific kind of bike. Absolutely perfect for single track trails.
@@SmallBikeStuff Awesome, thanks man. The tyre availability is a real thing to think about. I loved your videos through Malaysia & Thailand!
Great video. Postie bikes are the bike of choice in the apocalypse
they left off the low and high gear switch and go. that made it a trail bike. it is the same as the super cub .or i would of bought one
Learned how to ride on a 1968 ct 90. Owned many bikes since then. I’ve never owned a bad Honda. The trail 90 was number 1 for me. I’m seriously considering the new 125. Thank you. Awesome review. Awesome bike!
Thanks for watching. I would love an old 60's Honda Trail!
Awesome so beautiful out there on those trails. I wanted this bike but instead spent 2500 and bought a dr200. Happy riding y’all
Best trail review of anything CUTE! Good job!
Nice review. How does the weight feel? I seem to remember the CT90 was like 180lbs or something and this bike is 260?? How do they make it so much heavier? Does it at least feel comparable?
Such a quirky little bike. Love it. Great review. Proves you don't need 1000cc to have fun!
Small Bikes, BIG FUN!
