- In Moscow tonight they threw a party to celebrate the annexation of Ukrainian territories, while daring the enemies of Russia to take them back.

This after a week which saw tens of thousands of Russians flee the country and the draft. President Putin peppered his triumphant speeches today with a world view that sounded as if he was already at war with the West.
For its part, the West responded with more sanctions and weapons.
But this may not be enough.
There is a growing danger that this war will burst its boundaries.
We start in Ukraine today and a warning - there are highly distressing images of an attack on civilians from the very beginning of my report.

Erm…wasn’t it Zelensky that forced all Ukrainian males to stay and fight whether they wanted to or not? I recall it being an issue that all the women were allowed to leave at the start of this, but not the men. Calling up reservists is NOT the same as a draft. Reservists are trained personnel on standby. If you want to have a swipe at Putin and Russia please can you at least engage with reality and facts.

They tried in Chechenia next; Two wars needed on the pretence of a dodgy false flag (bombing a residential block) for the second war to save face losing the first. Then Georgia trying similar situation to Ukraine, then Crimea, pretending the "Green Men" were not Russian but Crimeans (we all laughed at that one except it wasn't laughable). Now Ukraine trying for a land bridge to Transnistria and into Moldova for another sham referendum. If Russia was a mental patient it would be in an asylum locked away so it can't hurt decent law abiding neighbours.
Oh! and by the way, Ukraine isn't part of Russia. I've studied the history and Russia is actually part of Ukraine. The Rus people that Russia likes to say were it's ancestors were boat traders that came from parts of Scandinavia. Kyiv was the centre for this region and the Rus people settled there because of this trading. Looks like Ukraine has more historical claim to Russia that Russia to the Ukraine. Still that's what Russia (USSR 2.0) is good at....twisting history.

@@mrfetters3332 No it didn't. The EU isn't as deeply invested in Ukraine as the US. I'm a foreign aid worker there and I can tell you the population is concerned but not threatened. They saw Putin take Crimea already, so this war isn't a new thing to them. When it comes down to it very few Europeans care beyond not wanting Putin to win. This is more likely an attempt to get the US to enter the war so he can justify calling a war and not a special military engagement or whatever. He wants to escalate because he is incapable of admitting he's wrong. Thing is we have MOABs. He doesn't. So...I tend to doubt it's going to work the way he thinks it will.

Something important to know, for all who are interested in history and/or support Ukraine:
Rus' ought not to be confused with modern “Russia”, which derives its name from the Rus' but historically is a completely different state, which almost all its existence was at war with the Rus'.
Just like the Holy Roman Empire was actually Germany, “Russia” is actually Muscovy, despite their best attempts to convince everybody otherwise.
Its name “Russia" received only around 1721, when Peter I simply changed Muscovy’s name into the “Russian” Empire (Russia originates from Rosia, name used by the Greek Orthodox Clergy in regards to Rus')
Under the reign of Cathrine II Muscovites where even punished for continuing to identify as Muscovites, and were forced to call themselves Russian.
Lands that Russia (Muscovy) claims were part of the original Rus', but actually weren't, are Novgorod, Suzdal, and Ryazan, since in historical texts of XI-XII centuries they are mentioned as separate entities from Rus'. They can be considered parts of extended Rus', although their culture was distinct from main Rus'.
In 1493, Muscovite duke Ivan III appointed himself to be the Great Ruler of All Rus'. No other kings acknowledged that. From that point on Muscovy started to make false claims on Rus' ownership.
“Russia” is an offshoot of Ukraine and not the other way round, despite what Soviet and Russian (Muscovite) historians have been trying to say for years. A Slavo-Finnic (*emphasis on the Finnic*), Mongolized offshoot. Kyiv was a developed cultured capital when Moscow was just another swamp village.

Is not the only war going on and not the biggest. Because this happens in Europe attracts lots of attentions. West usually are the good guys and the others are the bad guys. While this might be true in most cases nobody cares if USA drops a bomb in Middle East or Asia just because they can and find reasons. Do not get me wrong I am against any war but people should focus on these kind of issues before it happens. This day and age, you probably experienced peace since you were born but my grandma 86 of age and her sister 98 years of age lived in fear of another war all their lives.
