But can we assume from the beginning that the Zenner diode is off so we don't have to do all those calculations ? :))

Yes, you can. These all calculations are only comes, when you think, what if Zener Diode is ON? In that case, to confirm indeed it is OFF, we need all these calculations.

iff zener diode is not in reverse bias then it will be in forward bias and it will be act as a ideal diode?

For Zener diode to be in forward bias condition, the voltage at the anode of the diode should be more than cathode. In this case, for that to happen, the voltage at the emitter of BJT should be more than base. In this case, clearly that is not the case. So, Zener diode is definitely in reverse bias condition. Only thing that we need to find out is , whether it is operating in the breakdown region or not. When it is operating in the breakdown region, then voltage across it will be 5V, and when it is not operating in that region, then it will simply act as an open circuit.

yes my mistake. We could also calculate thevenin voltage across zener diode to find whether is is in breakdown or not?@@allaboutelectronics-quiz

The Thevenin's Theorem is applicable to only linear networks and linear devices. BJT is non-linear device.
