I had to smile when you said the word “out” in the Ute , that’s all the doggos needed, they were off 😂. Love that lucerne hay, don’t know why more farmers don’t grow some lucerne.
Ever thought of running an inoculant on your baled fodder? Game changer for us down south in expanding baling hours. We can go earlier and run later. And have stopped stressing about storage issues. We use a QLD product “SILACEXTRA” (a live bacterium product). Bale with confidence up to 25%MC.
@ How many “proper” seasons are you getting? We only use inoculant on hay when needed, this season only used it early on in the piece when the humidity was up and nice when we were pushed to go early due to heavy rain forecast. We run in chamber moisture sensors and a probe, it’s nice to know when you’re getting above 18% you’re not going to burn a shed down.

What moisture do you start running into combustion with the bales mate? Not had much to do with the hay side of things.
Anything over 20% I’d get a bit nervous about
September ????
Possibly meant December 😬

We run it on our round baler when we do silage but that’s about it. Generally during proper hay season we get enough done unless there is rain around
