    Thanks for the tutorial. you mention cost of parts etc. however, if you include the time you spent learning the tricks and traps, formatting the flash drive, setting up the support software, testing and ALL the other items needed to get this running, 120 isnt a high price. Its not like you are mass producing 1000 of these. I would mention, you should let people know that they should use the shutdown button rather than killing the power. I read that this may cause issues with the flash chip. I also notice you are using a class 10 SD card.....expensive little buggars arent they. Class 4 are a lot cheaper, but not as fast. I did have a USB hard drive full of movies on kodi, but it doesnt work on pi2 as is doesnt mount the drive. I read that the system boots too fast to mount a usb drive. On8ce again, great tutorial. liked and subscribed.

    I use openelec as movies and music for guest, or even a digital photo frame since it has a nice ken burns effect
    I also use it for movies, music videos etc with a UE megaboom with local content and I have a ton of ps1 games on the retropi fo my girlfriend as well (I prefer to use my PC) It's great if you want to collect music locally over the years from guest as well

    Good video and I like your setup in Kodi. I'm considering purchasing a Raspberry Pi as one of the options for a media centre, mostly to stream movies. Is there a way to connect the Raspberry to a stereo receiver to stream videos in 5.1 surround sound?

    Hey Frick, wondering if you could suggest a live-tv add-on and I have seen people with Program Guides for their LIVE TV. Also, do you use anything to record or save some of your streams for easy re-watching?

    Hi Frick, thank you very much for the video, very informative, I have also seen your Man Cave video, I really like it, really cool! I have now subscribed to your channel! I have bought a couple of Raspberry Pi's having watched your video's, as I live in the UK I bought them direct - sorry (maybe you could claim a commission!!). I am running Kodi on them both and really liking the various add-ons available, my kids absolutely love XMBC Karaoke - it's like the worlds best Karaoke machine!! What I would really like is to know more about the Advanced Launcher set up, is there any chance you can explain how you have set that up on Kodi, I'm a big retro gaming fan and would really like to have this too - Please advise

    Thanks for this video. I will be cutting the cord in the next 6 months and I am probably going to tie this in with TVHeadend. That Genesis add-on is slick, but when i use it a lot of the video's say it wont play because the add-on is out of date and to update it or use a different add-on. It is up to date so i am assuming it is being replaced with something else? Is there a replacement you could recommend?

    What version of Kodi are you using? I'm using Kodi 14.1 on the RP2. Most of the video section does not work (genisis/navi-x. etc). When trying to run, all I get is a, "script error". Another youtubber suggested downgrading Kodi to v13.2. Not sure how to do this on the PI2 - (New msd card with 13.2 installed?) - any suggestions? Will this mean starting all over with the add-ons? Kodi.tv has removed the "older versions" section of their website, so some help on finding v13.2 would be good. Sorry - long post...

      +mustapha ali Not over the internet (Netflix, UA-cam etc.). But over you can over LAN as internet speed doesn't matter in that case.

    make sure the plug says 5 amps because more amps might Fri your raspberry pi. you can buy covers for your raspberry pi. if your device fails to start download SD card formatter here the link to download www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
    then go to the raspberry pi website
    heres the link www.raspberrypi.org/ then download noobs then burn using win 32 disk imager hers the link sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ then click on the blue file icon then search for your extracted file then open it then click write. then put the SD card into the pi and boot up.
    if you don't have win rar you can download it here www.win-rar.com/start.html?&L=0
    enjoy your raspberry pi! :)

    • @lsdave
      @lsdave 9 років тому +3

      +berlistics You could use a 5volt 100 amp power supply... The raspberry pi will only draw the amperage it needs. If you go to high of voltage that is a problem or to little amperage is also a problem.

    8:45 You can get a cheap Android mini PC on eBay for about $40 so the PI isn't the cheapest. Great video though.

      +akalion213 - That will change once the Raspberry Pi Zero becomes available in quantity (Frick Wetmore is demo’ing on the Raspberry Pi 2 board). Scalpers have bought up all of the first production runs of these $5 boards, unfortunately, who are selling them for about as much as the RPi 2 board.
      $5 for the board, plus perhaps $25 or so to get power adaptor, and a nice fat microSD card, and the Raspberry Pi Zero will be hard to undercut, price wise and in terms of operation system choices.
      Differences? The CPU is a bit slower, and it’s got 512MB ram on the RPi Zero instead of 1GB on the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B (1GB) board. But hey - $5 for the board itself. Can’t beat that!

    • @akalion213
      @akalion213 8 років тому +1

      Bert Sierra Yeah I'm aware of the Zero, but still like you said, $5 for the Zero and $25 in additional hardware. I can get a quad core 1Ghz+ with 1Gb RAM android mini PC for around $35, maybe $25 if on sale.

    What the heck are you talking about exchange rate? The Raspberry pi can be bought at element 14. The entire package for $65 dollars US. You don't know what your talking about or your trying to deceive so you can make more money.
