As someone who was a massive PlayTheGame fan on UA-cam during the time, they absolutely had a contact at Treyarch leaking info on all of the BO2 zombie maps as they came out and it was a known thing among their community
I kinda assumed that at the time but I think BennDown was also an engagement baiting troll before that was a common thing and would mix a few leaks with random speculation passed off as real information which he just happened to guess correctly sometimes
I fell for their “Hell’s Bells” video, seems like a total red herring claiming there was an unknown trigger for a side easter egg that would play a seemingly unused audio file of some bells ringing lol
although that file is actually in the game to be fair. but yea if anything Playthegamecentral MAYBE had someone in the know about the Jimmy Zielinski’s plans before the campaign team took over
I used to have the picture they teased of origins on my old pc. They were also saying “The giant was in France” during the time so I was positive we were gonna be in trenches under the Eiffel Towerfor origins lol kinda nostalgic
The PTG video was specifically put up with no instructions as a "fuck you" to another zombies channel they had beef with at the time, who would mass upload "tutorial" videos of EEs when they were really just grasping at straws - their tranzit "tutorial" series was like 40 videos long or something silly iirc with absolute swathes of incorrect information or entire ten minute videos where they'd just be shooting at random shit on the map hoping something would happen, as opposed to PTG who would, at the time, generally wait until they knew for sure what was needed to complete the Easter egg before making a video on it. Benn (the guy talking during the PTG clip at 14:00) has never hidden that he has connections inside Treyarch and knows story and EE details way before the community as well. In fact, he's released songs under his music label that just straight up describe ending cutscenes years before they come out (albeit cryptically). It's specifically part of the reason PTG never posted steps as well - so the hunt wouldn't be ruined for others.
Also, as a San Francisco Bay Area Native… it’s Alcatraz. Obviously it’s gonna be foggy when the city has named the fog that rolls in the entire SF “Karl” and fog is a huge part of the atmosphere of what makes SF a little unique as a location
I watched PTG growing up, way back since World at War. I can tell you with certainty they had an insider at Treyarch. They used to have a website with a chatroom and I soecifically remember someone dropping the employee's name. Im still a fan of them at heart, and Benn (the head of PTG) makes some incredible music inspired by the original cod zombkes story.
When this map released back on April 2013 I remember I ran from school to my home like a madman and made it in like 5 minutes when usually it took me like 20-25 minutes walking at a normal pace. I didn’t even realized until nighttime how in the actual f*** I made it to my home so fast without getting tired. Anyways the map was lit AF 10/10 and the easter egg was the first one I ever completed with only one other friend instead of a full group of 4.
Oh yeah PTG had an inside informant for sure. I'm fairly certain they got in contact just prior the whole Mob fiasco. I think their informant might have been on Blundell's team because they had the most information on Mob and Origins. Memorable moments of Ben leaking information that I recall being a viewer was him signing off a commentary video with "We're Verdun here" which is the location of the origins battlefield. He also uploaded an unlisted video months before Origins released with him just staring into the camera saying "Der Riese is in France, or more specifically, The Giant is in France" then linked it in the description leading up to the maps release. And another for origins was he did a dual commentary with a popular Brazilian(?) zombies creator. I believe Ben was trying to platform content creators he enjoyed at the time instead of beefing with the ones he disliked. So he had this guy in the video with him and they gloated that they had the info but were holding onto it (Typical Ben behavior) and he asked the other creator to say what the Origins wonder weapon would be in his native language, and he said "o bordão" which is Staff. Honestly used to love PTG's stuff but in retrospect, they were kinda full of themselves for being a bunch of zombies youtubers lol
they just had the privilege of being cocky because there weren’t as many super intellectually driven autistic ass (positive) data miners, lore experts, speedrunners etc in the CoD community at the time
i dont know if he did multiple collabs but one of them was with this popular mexican zombies youtuber. Might just be the same guy you're talking about because I do remember Benn very explicitly saying that the new maps wonder weapon was a Staff. That guy had hella inside info for some reason.
Mob of the dead as a special place in my heart as my first easter egg, me and my cousin did it since it only required 2 players we did together and after that I started to do more easter eggs when bo3 started.
It's cool to discover more about maps easter eggs for someone who wasn't present in the community at the time, even if history is not that sweet, it still is one of the best maps treyarch gave us. Also, you may not meant to, but it is a crazy coincidence the video came out one day after the Bo3 remaster realeased on the Steam workshop, it is a pleasant surprise.
PTG would flat out say that they knew people close to the game. They would always be first to post the guide but would wait till everyone else was just about to finish to not spoil it too soon.
hmm I can enjoy these shorter videos that explain controversy on cheating scandals for the specific maps you've done so far, but I would enjoy if you could still give those maps the same style of breakdown and storytelling that you did for your initial episodes in the series. Those were done so well that I can't help but to be left wanting more haha, guess thats my attempt to complement your great narrating skills by crying for longer videos!!
@@MoodyHamlmao great save but I totally agree with the original statement The “documentary style” videos of the Zombies maps was straight DOPE (dopamine) 😂
in my opinion this was the best maps in Cod history, but man those easter egg steps were way to complex. like would u really be able to do the Egg without some UA-cam guide to complete man those were some good times but bad Easter Egg design looking back on it .
My favorite times when an Easter egg race was ruined was every time the Zombies UA-camrs were given like a month of early access to a map. The day black ops 6 released, I was immediately bombarded with a catalogue of tutorials, secrets, etc. Most of the fun I had from the Black Ops 1 and 2 days was discovering things alongside the rest of the community. That feeling is nonexistent now.
I don’t get how you think they had an advantage, when they did get to play early we saw what they got to see and Easter eggs are ALWAYS turned off in early access events.
Funny you say this because this is the first COD to have easter eggs added after the maps have been released, so you should be saying the opposite. "discovering things alongside the rest of the community" and "My favorite times when an Easter egg race was ruined was every time the Zombies UA-camrs were given like a month of early access to a map." are also contradictory statements.
For the mystery of the 3 inmates escaping Alcatraz or not, there’s a documentary called Alcatraz Escape: The Lost Evidence where the family shares evidence of the Anglin brothers escape. Was entertaining and highly recommend watching it.
I’ve been replaying bo2 zombies lately and relearning the layout of the maps since they’re the only fucking maps that haven’t been remastered (besides origins) so I haven’t actually played them since the bo2 days, glad to say buried and mob of still two of the best maps ever made
Easily my favorite map of all time and it kills me knowing that there's no real world's first to this map cause I never looked into this till now. This was the start of me carrying my friends through the easter egg so they could experience it.
I think you hit the nail on the head in one of your last statements Can’t say they cheated anything because there weren’t any rules to follow But it shows you to be a shallow and indecent human being to use an unfair advantage and claim props using said advantage
Easter Eggs are being solved so fast now its frustrating. Kind of ruins it. Revelations took a while. Origina took some time also.(Original no gobble gum)
Brutus actually did come out to be the warden of Alcatraz in Blood of the Dead so that Reddit post must’ve actually been legit, prob switched up the proposed perks before it fully released
What part of the bay you from brother ? I’m from Oakland . This ee holds a special place in my heart . I will always remember on my cousins 11th bday he is mom some how got tickets for the Halloween tour and the sleep over . I didn’t sleep there hell no but the Halloween tour was dope ! . Being from the Bay Area I’m sure you heard of the Winchester mystery house in San Jose ! This is where we went for my cousins 12 th bday ! (He was getting into history) lol but I think that mansion would also be a dope Easter egg
PlayTheGame very openly had someone working at Treyarch, Ben has said so in a little podcast thing he did with JrRizzo. Used to love that guys content when I was younger, I always felt like he used to lean in to the mystique of zombies and I loved that, but looking back, even tho he did do that, he was also just a bit of a twat? Liked his addition to the community tho, sometimes we need someone that’s a tad dickish.
I was very active when PlaytheGame was leaking stuff he was absolutely in touch with someone at 3arch. They pissed and moaned because they got called out for acting like they figured the shit out. Ben’s ego literally made himself think he was a part of the treyarch team.
Good knowledge! "Period accurate" was more a reference to the fact that there were some new non-futuristic weapons added, as Black Ops 2 was set in 2025 and most of the zombies weapons in the launch maps were these futuristic weapons. Thanks for picking up on that tho!
@evanf1997 I get ya. It's like shadows of evil being set in a similar period but all the guns are super futuristic. The only ones I can think of on that map that arnt are the starting revolver and type 100 (forgot the game name) smg.
More then likely. Even though the community finds some of the “major ee’s “ relatively fast, there are always some small one hidden that take a while to find. Some don’t get found at all.
I just wanna say, I really find a problem with these videos trying to capture zombie easter eggs to that of a world's first race in Destiny. Easter Egg World's First matters to literally no one outside of a few big UA-camrs who desperately care about a title no one cares about. Easter Eggs are a community effort, it's hours and even days in some cases of forums, reddits, discords all coming together to solve something. And I feel these videos in the way they are labelling easter eggs as a race for world's first are really disingenuous in capturing that community spirit and also fuel the very toxic cycle that really began to boil over and ruin the community during BO4 when people really started getting toxic about being World's First.
you got to revive yourself multiple times and be rewarded with power ups and ease of weapon choice though, it's about as new player friendly as it gets
