I hope you realize how life changing your content is. Thank you so very much for this
HI, Ntokozo, comments like these makes me want to do more! Thanks for stopping by.
I have almost a similar story, I went to university with the intention to be an accountant. I changed my major to Information Systems in my second year, this was back in 2005 when IT was not even a thing. My parents were so angry and didn’t understand my decision and I honestly also didn’t know what I was getting myself into at that time.I am now looking back and thanking myself for trusting in my intuition. I am a successful black woman in tech, earning a comfortable salary.
Thank you Bonnie for your content ❤.
Me and you together, I failed Accounting two and for once in my life I had no interest in repeating it then I took information systems. Look, now I am the happiest woman ever in the Tech Industry
10 years ago I made the decision to switch from 3rd year accounting to IT. It was the best decision I ever made in my life. From then I never looked back.
How did you do that? Did you start afresh or you did a bridging course?
There are many ways and it depends on what you intend to do in IT. My first and second year modules were almost the same between the Accounting and IT degree. There were 2 additional modules I needed to do. It did set me back 1 year. But that's not an issue. I worked part time during my university days. So this just meant me working more days and earning more money. If you already studied and now want to jump, there are bridging courses that you can do online and write international exams which open doors but they are hard to do. Dedication is key. I highly recommend if you are a new graduate, do an internship and work your way up. This way you gain experience learning in the job and being taught by someone since all companies need people with experience.
@@carina4796 hie. Can you kindly share the bridging courses and the international exams that one needs to write. If you don't mind.
Take your pick - it all depends on which sector of IT you like to go in
Great to hear this 🔥🔥🔥🔥I'm a black female, "downgraded" to Senior Solutions Architect in a Fortune 500 company in March 2021... 22yrs experience in tech...dropped CA route to tech in 2002...my whole journey sponsored since 2nd yr varsity, worked at 3 of big 4" of which 1 was my client through own consulting firm at 27...became a millionaire... with God ALL things are possible🤞🏽 🎉 Keep going 🔥Tech is where it's at ❤
OMG our village is proud of you! Say hi on email, maybe you can share your journey too with us. ❤️ Xaba.bonisile@gmail.com
I'm looking for a job in a solution architect I have information systems degree
Wow! I’m currently transitioning from the CA route into Tech and many people think I’m loosing it, but reading your story and the many others in the comments gives me hope. Thanks!
@@ntsakobaloyi3637 You are on the right track 🔥🔥🔥 however whilst a degree is important to some extend the journey to solutions architecture is more on extensive industry experience (can't stress that enough, the more projects you do the more you'll have added advantage) In addition try to expand on getting globally recognised IT certification in your chosen speciality for e.g. AWS, Google Cloud etc. this will set you apart globally not forgetting a postgrad that focuses on systems architecture (some global companies prefer that, e.g. MBA or MSc) Polish your CV to global standard, be present & visible on LinkedIn. The world is your oyster 🦪🙏🏽
What an insightful episode, the part that moved me the most was when you guys touched on becoming aware of our strengths which is what I was embarking on as a graduate and now I can say that I'm more confident since I've recently made some discoveries about my abilities so this really unified this underlying idea about embracing my uniqueness and letting my strengths shine even more
Thanks 🙏
Thank you Boni😊 for sharing this information and conversation
Anele you have such great energy 🎉!! Thank you for sharing your story with us! Such an exciting journey you've had so far

You could even see I was hooked 🤣🤣🤣it felt like I was sitting with my daughter and having a casual conversation.
That's the whole idea for this village, everyone is welcome.

Anele, your energy is contagious ❤️🔥🥰
Hello guys, really inspiring, love her passion for her job, I'm anticipating some mega moves on her end, all the best.
Left my mining job for IT, im now registered for my advanced diploma. I'm getting distinctions and hoping next year to do an honours programme and ultimately a masters. I am 31 and i feel like not stopping, academics are so fulfilling to me i never realised it.
Went to school with her, she was on her way to success from then. She is so hardworking
@@liferesetwithboni im speaking facts, you knew that she was going to be successful and it so inspiring to see her shine and achieve such success
This was such a great interview 🥰🥰 Anele was super informative and explained everything so clearly. Loved it so much ❤️ Keep doing big things
Hi, here's carlos Moiane from Mozambique. I would like to thank you the village for bringing people like her she very brave
im doing my second in accounting and im switching to informatics next year , I don't like accounting hopefully I will love Informatics I would like to venture into business analyst or project manager. sis Boni keep it up with the good work
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. Very insightful and inspiring. Thank you so much. #Hopeful
Like Anele, I discovered my passion for tech, but the calling only came after completing my Bachelor's in Business Science in Accounting. Post-university, I taught myself software development and other tech. I've always been inclined to build systems that provide efficient solutions. With my business acumen, I'm able to develop effective business tech solutions. Thus far, I haven't found anyone whose pursuits and aspirations align as closely with mine. Hearing from someone else who also aspired to be a CA and then changed their path because they did it for themselves is incredibly affirming. Thank you for this great interview!
Thanks for the valuable info!
I did the exact same degree as Anele at uct(i think she was 2 years ahead of me), but then I went into software development... Still gaining some experience and getting those certs before I dive into consulting. 😉
I know someone who also went to UCT and studied the same thing and is a consultant at Accenture
What she said at 10:40 , about the accountancy roles is true, there's no leeway around the accounting standards.
Could Anele kindly share the salary or range for the Graduate program at EY before her current position, if she can? 😊
I got an accounting diploma in UJ and I didn’t really enjoy it - it took me 5 years to complete that 3 year diploma cause I really didn’t like it and therefore couldn’t get myself to commit to my studies, but I pushed to complete my studies, because I didn’t want to drop out.
I applied for an advanced diploma, got Accepted, but ended not registering. 😢 I feel so stuck because I don’t think I know where my passions lie. I always thought of giving IT a try. It’s been something I’ve been thinking about for years, but I am yet to do my research and see what exactly in IT i would like to do how to succeed in that career.
Does anyone know where I can start doing research on IT?
This is a very difficult degree at UCT, girl you are very intelligent 😊.
This video was for me i recent decided to change majors from accounting to IT , this has been soo helpful !❤🎉
Im lookin forward to the academic year startin
Is a Bcom information systems degree a good route to pursue? Please help
Amazing interview from u sis Boni and Anele Always learning ❤
Can I please ask as registration time is near is it advisable to do a Bcom information systems degree as it seems to be tech and business related please assist
Not in comparison really Sis Boni but would u deem it advisable for me to pursue Bcom information systems
@MthandeniZibane-zb4jc I don't give career advice. The video gives enough information for you to make your own decision. I don't know the difference between a BSc and Bcom degree, but maybe someone can answer you.
30:26 Mostly qualified electrical engineers branch into IT because;
1. Have done some programming in varsity and are good at it
2. Vast demand for tech workforce thus leading companies to not only accept people with tech degrees like CompSci, IT, IS
3. Thus, you have a better chance progressing as a tech person than a traditional engineer
Investment bankers, Data science & consulting roles attract all types of engineers
Whats your advice on someone doing Systems Development NQF 5
I did that thing also and now im doing an internship in one of the biggest internet companies in SA
She doesnt miss this one 😅😅😅😅 her mind sees opportunities the rest is history
Ma'am can you please do a video on how to be an anesthesiologist in South Africa, salary, how long. There ain't so much info here on UA-cam.
Check the Government circulars for Health Sciences salaries they post a circular every week
HI Boni, may you please do an Agronomist or Plant Pathologist salary please

It will stay here, this is live premiere. You can come back to it later, no worries and it has timestamps.
Sis boni can we have more interviews🙏🏿🙏🏿
Where have you been? 😂😂😂I do them nje every Weds, check tea with the village playlist..there is about 18 videos there and more coming in April..
A friend of mine that works in Tech said that its actually easier for people with finance background to convert to Tech 🤷🏽♀️
Its very possible but not easier and it also depends on what field in tech :)
Hy please do a biotechnologist video
Those are hard to get but maybe when they see this comment, they will contact me.
Dear Anele, can one stand a chance in the job market, let's say they Hold BSC honours in Computer science with 0% work experience?
Please apply for graduate programs especially in Dara science and data analytics ,software engineering ,quantitative analysis.
Yes 100%, STEM degrees are sought after. You can get into a good grad program with no xp :)
I hold the same degree from tuks
Am not a south Africa so yah it's hard to get a job like Anele in my home country. I work as a health claims assessor for a 3rd party contracted by an insurance company
@aneleintech Would u say holding a diploma vs degree can be detrimental to one's journey in the space?
I wouild give credit to J Dilla as the one who changed Hip Hop forever ... then an honorable mention would go to Nujabes
Well if you looking for Senior Solutions/Enterprise/Security Architects just shout I have capacity 😊🎉
Hello Boni, been watching for the past week. I'm currently working in China but want to return to SA (home). As a web developer, I've been hearing from friends that jobs are hard to find now in SA. Would you recommend using recruiters or just job sites? Oh!! not forgetting the crime in Jozi..the crime is what keeps from returning home. But i miss home
@@liferesetwithboniHaha I guess I should really move somewhere safer. Thanks for the videos by the way
