Great choice Ethan. Spoons are the early spring secret weapon especially when you think its too cold out. We caught bass on a blustery March St Paddy's Day weekend some years ago and the lesson stuck. Thankfully the dude fishing about 40 yards away and slaying bass shared his secret. Blessings my friend
Kastmasters are a staple in my outfit out here in Oregon, almost all my PB and favorite dinks were on 'em. Great to see you back on the water, Ethan, always enjoy your positivity!
4:58 You grabbed fish by the line! While in one of your videos where you gave a couple tips about using ultra light rod, you saidnever grab the line when landing a fishing, even if its a blue gill😂 or you risk losing anything.
I absolutely love your videos, very informative. I started watching your videos about a year or so ago. I watched creek fishing since he started and he threw your name out and your products. Now you two are the only two that I watch on here. Thank you for the great content. Please keep it coming!!!
Kastmaster are cool but out here in Northern California we run the superduper outdoors spoons (SDO spoon) off some BFS rigs. Thanks for the video and tips. I need me some mule plastics for the upcoming spring 🎣.
Welcome back Nathan, I won’t be fishing until June. Going to have surgery on hip, by then hope to be tearing it up with a bionic hip. Great to see you out and about. Hope the family is doing well.
Had a chance to finally sit down and catch up on some videos. Yours was at the top of the list and you didn't disappoint. I haven't thrown a spoon for quite some time but after watching you catch those bass I may have to pick one up and give it a try. Thanks for the video Ethan and keep up the good work.
Cool to see this vid after hearing you talk about it on the podcast. Super interested to see a more in depth review on the Kestrel rod. Happy to see you back on the water!
It's been a weird winter man! Glad to see you back on the water. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the kestrel. Been interested in the rod for a while now.
I take that Kastmaster and put a single gold hook on it, like a 6, slip on the gulp white 1" minnow. It cleans up on perch, blue gills, sunnies and white perch.
🎣 kastmasters are good for a lot of species. The blue one is great for crappie, perch and rainbow trout even Pike was well. Silver and gold is good for fallfish, panfish and bass. I mean people have caught a lot of different fish on these things, I guess it depends where you live and the weather too. Another fantastic fishing video here.
Glad you got back out there! I still dont have good conditions here to get out, hopefully soon! Im going to pick up one of the new mule tackle boxes soon. What is the one bait, color, and size along with jig you would recommend for 3-5 inch bluegill. We have a ton of them here.
The 1/64oz mule jig with a mule minnow 1.2 will catch you endless 3-5” bluegill. It’s a bit hard to cast unless you are experienced with ultralight and using low diameter line. I like bright colors when the water is warm.
Man, I sold my solo sportsman. I needed to and I don’t really regret it, but every once in a while I miss that thing. It’s pretty bare bones, but that thing was rock solid.
Is the Kastking machine really nice? Is its fluidity and soft? What is the winding speed in cm? How many grams should the machine weigh for 55 grams of aji cane? Thank you very much.
I don’t think I will anytime soon! I’ve always wanted to but I think I’d rather collaborate with a rod company to launch one rather than do it on my own.
@@FishAnything that's what I was talking about just that is something you know so much about I know everybody has away of fishing and we all have different budgets if make one feels perfect to you I thing alot of people that watch your videos and see just what you fish for and how you do it I know I would save up the money to get one thank you for your videos
You’re probably catching all these bass because it is almost bass spawning season and they are trying to eat as much as they can before laying eggs those ones you were catching was probably the male bass protecting the bed where the big female bass is sitting. Today I caught 20 bass with the biggest bass was a 6.7 lb bass. No bass I caught today was under 2 lb, this is a nice time for bass fishing.
I’m in Michigan and these water temps were 40 at most. The spawn won’t happen for another couple months here. Sounds like you’re probably down south. I’m jealous!!
@@FishAnything yessir u got it right the bass r spawning right now I’m so mad because today I caught 38 bass and all of them were over 2 lbs but they were not at there full potential because they already laid eggs
What mittens are those? I've thrown a 1/12 Kastmaster before and caught some dinks on it, lost it shortly thereafter. I'll be looking out for another this spring! Tight lines!
Hey ethan! I think you should give a review for a rod called the "Magic L" by Handing. Looks to be a well made, JDM ultralight that comes in about 40$. There is also "Wandering" by handing that looks really good.
@@FishAnything I got my magic l from Amazon and I am so impressed with the quality. I decided to buy there top of the line wandering rod too! I think you'll really like them!
So your setup is braid > leader > swivel > leader > spoon? I'm really interested because there is so much conflicting information online. Some people say to use a swivel for spinners and spoons others don't. Some say that a swivel isn't necessary on braid to leader either. Also really looking forward to seeing how that kastking gear holds up. The braid looks promising!
Maybe the swivel isn’t necessary on braid, but I still use it because I would prefer to avoid any line twist. I don’t think a swivel is necessary for spinners though; I’ve never got much line twist from them. Yes it’s braid to fluoro with a swivel and additional fluoro before tying to the spoon.
Is the kastmaster like a spoon you’d use for ice fishing where you mostly jig it up and down and it has rattles, or is it like a daredevil where it does the side to side rocking when you retrieve it?
It is more of a jigging spoon but I’m sure you could do more with it. It definitely shimmies a little when you reel it in. I need to keep experimenting!
I’m not sure I understand the question fully, but I typically run 6lb braid to about 6’ of 4lb copolymer leader. I usually put a little mono on the reel as backing behind the braid.
I don't know how you can get out there at that location. I would just feel creeped out thinking there are about 50 people all at their back windows looking, watching, judging.

They are fantastic little cold water baits!

Thanks for sharing! I need to keep playing with them to see what else I catch. Tight lines bud

John is awesome! Thanks so much for watching and supporting. Means the world to me 👊🏽👊🏽
Good call, Tony! KastKing Kestrel 👍 I have the spinning version and the baitcasting version with the Kestrel rods and I love them both.
I'm a fan of kastking for sure. One of the best value/money brands imo.
Can’t wait to do some more fishing with it!
Exciting day Ethan, especially for the time of year! Glad to see you got out!
Thanks David! Hope all is well 👊🏽
I am going to try some mini spoons tomorrow and out of kayak so I really enjoyed the video!!
Hope you caught some nice ones!
Just caught a small bass and a few red ear that day
So glad to catch this video. Fishing has been brutal in central MD. Better days ahead!!!!
Spring is near 🫶🏽
Yes!!! The videos are back!! Love your content and all that do you. God bless brother and tight lines!!
Thanks as always brother

Good for you to get out and great 1st Feb fish! Interesting you got a new UL setup!

awesome, excited to watch before work. i've been skunked since november, hope it gets better soon!
It will! The water will warm and you’ll be catching fish in no time
try using the daiwa crossfire LT fishing reel.
I’ll look into it!
Being from Southern Michigan, I would still be ice fishing in Feb lol
It's been a weird winter man! Glad to see you back on the water.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the kestrel. Been interested in the rod for a while now.
Thanks! Hopefully I’ll make the video sooner than later
great video and great fishing!! hi Ethan! have a good day and week. hope to go fishing soon.. i haven't try spoon lures before.

It’s a cool little boat for sure
What was your rationale for not throwing any mule plastics? Just curious. Great to see you out making videos!
To be honest, I just wanted to fish a spoon lol. A horse fly or mule minnow likely could have worked too.
Is the Kastking machine really nice? Is its fluidity and soft? What is the winding speed in cm? How many grams should the machine weigh for 55 grams of aji cane? Thank you very much.
Glad to see you back great video are you going to come out with your on line of light and ultralight rods

Is that the SFS reel, this "spin finesse system" one? Looks like a good UL reel
Yeah it’s feeling pretty good so far
The krestel rod! Is your model a solid tip or tubular?
I think it’s tubular but I’ll have to double check. The tip doesn’t seem like my former solid tip models.
New sub. Come across you on you and Daulton podcast. I'm a novice yak fisherman in Florida. Enjoyed the video!
ARE YAK EVEN IN SESAON? 😮
Thanks so much for subscribing! Tight lines!
What canoe are you running? I have been trying to figure out what small vessel I want to get (kayak, canoe, or pond prowler).
This is an old town discovery solo 119

This winters been rough. Thin ice just keeps moving in and out in MA so no real open water or ice to fish.
Yeah I feel your pain

They also have spinning or casting UL so you could do some more BFS if you'd like!
Interesting! I’ll give it a look!!

What size swivel are you using?
Great question - I can’t remember the exact size but it’s about as small as they offer for the Spro brand.

I always think I am but never do. Time will tell lol
How do you guys usually set up your reels for ultralight/light? (line, backing, leaders) i really need some help
I’m not sure I understand the question fully, but I typically run 6lb braid to about 6’ of 4lb copolymer leader. I usually put a little mono on the reel as backing behind the braid.
@@FishAnything thank you!
What gloves are you wearing ? Are they waterproof? Glad for a new video been waiting 🤟🏻
Turtle gloves
Thanks! Yep they are Turtle Gloves
What exact Kestrel model is it?
the odds... i just get home from cabella's having looked at these.
They are a great little bait
I don't know how you can get out there at that location. I would just feel creeped out thinking there are about 50 people all at their back windows looking, watching, judging.
Lol I don't really care what they think at this point. But yes I understand :)
You actually hinder performance with a swivel on a kastmaster spoon. One of the only ones you should tie directly
Interesting! I will play around with both and do some experimenting. Thanks for sharing.
