every time I watch this I cry when the singing starts and the baby laughs and giggles because it reminds me so much of the fond memories I have of my grandfather. Each time I see this scene I wish I could just have one more day to be with him, just one more day to hear his stories. My grandfather served in the US Merchant Marines and his brother served in the USMC during WWII they're the reason why I joined the ARMY.
I like to think that Bink made a difference in the men's lives by simply showing up and breaking the old routine that they had and were so happy that they sang.
You're right. I think he also helped these poor retired soldiers to remember why they fought in the wars - to give the youth a chance to grow up in peace.

For a movie that built its entire plot on crotch-banging slapstick, this is such a wholesome moment that I can't help but crying everytime I see it. This is an amazing scene.

The whole movie was funny but the ending, happy ending is really beautiful with veterans singing to the baby. Heroes who went through WWII singing to the young little hero who was kidnapped and chased by three dumb criminals by going thought some funny adventures that he recognized from his boo-boo
An hour earlier at the old soldiers home an elderly gentleman was channel surfing and came across a news bulletin saying that an infant has been kidnapped saying if you have any information please call the police Old guy a: what is the world coming to Old guy b: what was that about?? Old guy a: a news report just said that a baby has been kidnapped! Old guy b: what for is the kid's parents wealthy or something? Old guy a: of course the kid's parents are wealthy apparently the kid was supposed to get his picture taken by professional photographers but it turned out it was a trio of crooks they grabbed the kid and left a ransom note it probably said give us$5000000 or the kid sleeps with the fishes or something like that???? Old guy b: I hope they do find that kid and the crooks too so that way those three would be sent to jail were the other prisoners will probably beat them up like pinatas! Old guy a: why is that? Old guy b: easy other crooks hate it when other crooks endanger kids or hurt kids in any shape or form I do not want to talk about the other thing because I don't want to jinx it😧😧😧😧

I only remembered watching this as a kid, was with my niece and nephews today and saw this, gosh it was tear jerking, never had that emotional moment with the mother but as an adult, the reunion made me cry.
There are a lot of parts I like about this movie but, I like this part the most because not only do these elderly folk who were once soldiers sing to a baby but said baby and parents were reunited with their missing child.
The veterans knew Baby had been kidnapped and was 'on the run' from the kidnappers, so naturally they formed all-round-defence around him and waited for his family
