I know of people who didn’t deserve being excommunicated but never heard of the Stake Presidency getting involved and admitting it was wrongfully done. It seems these instances don’t occur as often as they used to, but excommunicating a teen for pregnancy, especially when she hasn’t gone through the temple, is absurd and beyond comprehension. I am so grateful for the wonderful leaders that didn’t try to rule the members with an iron fist.
I’m so thankful for the care and how quickly they responded. As I was healing, it was good to look back and see that there were leaders that wanted to undo or make right such a thing.
@@carolynnibley9378Thank you for letting me know Carol. Means so much to get to share my story and testimony of Christs power! Sending you lots of love!
I am so glad you brought up the subject of yoga. I have been practicing Iyengar yoga for over two years and have often prayed, asking whether it is good, as I have heard warnings from Christians. I have always received positive answers. The focus we have during yoga practice is the most important aspect. I use meditation time to pray to our Father and have even received personal revelations. On some occasions, the meditative state I experience when focusing on Heavenly Father at the end of my yoga practice is similar to the state I reach when fasting. I believe the Lord has given non-members knowledge of things that are good and beneficial for humankind, and yoga is one of those things when practiced with our minds focused on Him. It is not essential for salvation, but it is good.
Yeah, I love Yoga. It has been helpful for me. Yoga is not meant to be a religion nor a dogma. It’s unfortunate when it is taught like one or becomes one... or becomes a substitute for Christ. ❤ Thank you for sharing your experience. I also can share the experience you’ve mentioned. Sometimes I pray and then meditate. I have had moments in that stillness, when my nervous system calms down, and it becomes easier for me to feel The Spirit… especially when I’m stressed.
Anything that is good can be taken to the extreme. I used to teach yoga and I still love it so much. There are some people that treat it like a religion but for most it’s just a great way to stretch and improve mobility.
This was so heart-warming & uplifting! Perfect for a Sunday evening. Dana's life has been much like my own & guess that's why I cried several times. Thankyou! It was wonderful!❤
I am so glad I clicked on this episode! It has actually helped me with a talk I’m supposed to give and didn’t expect it! Thank you for your testimony and your knowledge!
I know a lot of people spend a lot of time thinking they don’t fit in. When I was divorced with my 3 kids I was so focused on being strong for me and my kids that it allowed me to feel the love of the ward members and I will be forever grateful for their love during that time.
Dana, thank you for your story. It was very vulnerable and relatable. I didn't realize how affected I was by my teen excommunication until you said what your Stake President did. I literally sat straight up and hand fisted the air! I was told excommunications were an act of love. I later understood that, but was told by a Bishop I had later in life that I should have never been excommunicated. I needed help. I was also told my chance of getting into the Celestial Kingdom was pretty much null and void. I was way too damaged. Yes, I was... childhood trauma guaranteed that without help. Thank you for your inspiring story and testimony of hope and faith.
If that was true then what is the atonement for? I’m so glad you realize you do have every access to the celestial kingdom as you follow Christ and keep your covenants with God! :)
I know how the song "Families can be together forever" can rip one apart inside. Especially if you know it's a true principle and you believe it with all your heart! ❤ It's rough when that song is sung.
I remember my cousin getting pregnant when she was 17, a Senior in Vegas at the end of 1966. The boy was just out of High School. They were both LDS. My Aunt and Uncle literally went over and sat down with the other parents and the two of them and the two listened while the sets of parents planned out where they would get married, the courthouse thing before she started to show and where they would live etc. She moved in with his family until she had the baby. The parents helped them save and helped them get into a small the house in Henderson NV before it was a nice place in 1968. They really tried to make it work but by 73 the marriage was over with two kids. He went inactive and my cousin tried to stay active back living with two kids at my Aunt and Uncle's house. She ended up marrying a non member and was never active up til the day she died a couple of years ago. Anyway, that's how they avoided embarrassment and being excommunicated in the mid 60s.
“Falling is part of progression”. “God works all things to the good who love Him”. Lots of notes I was taking during this interview. Dana is an amazing and interesting woman! I really enjoyed this interview.
Just a warning of caution, with all love, I have heard many testimonies of people in and out of the lds church about the warning of practicing yoga, and their journey in turning to Christ. It’s considered a sacred practice of religion, and Missionaries from Hinduism came in the form of teaching yoga. When ever I hear about yoga I just offer that warning.
Yoga and healing arts aren’t for everyone. Ever heard of Thomas McConkie? He made a comeback after years of in-depth meditation and yoga practice for years! My 17 years of hot yoga (26+2) helped me to survive very difficult stress for years. I better connect now to my OR sister and nieces and many other special people. I don’t worship a guru or teacher. In yoga teacher training last fall, during a humanities/philosophy section, I learned about and read some of the Baghavad Vita. It’s as tempting to become a Hindu or Krishna follower as eating an elephant! There is nothing inherently harmful in practicing yoga! To maintain a healthy spiritual life, prayer, scripture study, give willingly to others and self in service, temple attendance, being sure to balance all things.❤️🙏🏼
at 33:33 and on, see JST Heb. 11:40 God having provided some better things for them through their sufferings, for without sufferings they could not be made perfect. Inspiring interview!
In my opinion in her life, yoga is probably preached more than Christ. In meditation, it is true we do not clear our minds, why, because Satan can enter. We always meditate with a gospel question in mind or something we are trying to solve. It is always about our spirit. We feed the spirit through meditation or pondering. Don't be led to agree with these ideas they are weird and not of the spirit.
Hey Dana! Glad to hear things are going well for you. Even though I was only able to talk to you for a short time, it was a pleasure to get to know you as much as I did. This is Ezra by the way in case you were wondering if you ever read this.
@ we spoke briefly on mutual. I remember you really like your cacao and had your own yoga business. You also told me the story of your husband who didn’t sign the marriage license. I also remember you asking me if I could see spirits. I’ve been listening to this podcast for about a year, and recognized your picture when it came up on my subscriptions. It was a good listen.
I was wondering the same thing about ppl leaving the church & how their marriages hold together or fall apart. My guess is that over time, most marriages fall apart after they leave the church. How could they not?
I love the gospel and the church but I will never be ok with polygamy; with what the Lord sets down unequivocally as an abomination. Men do make mistakes but if wasn't Joseph Smith on this matter. See podcast 132 Problems. Please let me know where you practice. My husband needs help with a brain injury.
You don’t have to fit in the mold. It’s not a requirement. God is your fortress, your focus and your reason, for he only offers salvation. The mold has no salvation to offer. As for that bishop, it seemed like he was more interested in punishing her rather than help her. Monday mrn - January 13, 2025. Pr2, chckpnt.
What an example of spiritual maturity to look past the well meaning mistakes of others and keep focus on what is most important, the Restored Gospel.

Love the unique and very effective way you share the gospel and build testimonies!
Thank you so much!
This was a beautiful episode!! I love seeing the Savior work with people regardless of where their paths in life have taken them! ❤
One of the very best interviews....
Thank you for sharing, Dana!!!

Wow! The last 15 minutes of this has so much strength, spirit, wisdom, maturity and testimony. So incredibly beautiful 😍 ❤
I am so sorry that bishop did that. It's shocking to me. I can't believe it!!!! I am so glad that Stake President stepped up!
