I know this is a few years old but hopefully you still read comments. It’s that time of year to start getting ready for the season and my wood ducks looked terrible. I was inspired by this and decided to try. It’s my first flock and paint and it came out ok. Got more to do and hopefully I’ll improve. Thanks for posting this video.

How does one get one of these amazing wood ducks? And how well do they stand up to the elements.

Is it normal to find mallard nests hundreds of yards from water, at the base of a maple tree? Found one may of '22

You’d need a biologist to answer that one.

if i was to have green on green flocking would i still be able to use yellow and green on the head to get that bright green effect?

I've never tried it. You may have to do a lot more dark shading. The main reason I do not use Green is because it washes out and fades badly.

What machines do you prefer, gravity or siphon style? I've got about two dozen black ducks about ready for the airbrushing step. By the way your videos are amazing and very easy to follow.

If you haven’t gathered by my videos (and thank you for the kind words Chris), I am both clumsy and unorganized. ADD run amok. I use siphon fed exclusively. I often twist and flip over my brush. Gravity fed doesn’t have the capacity I need either

Durability wise they only have two real big enemies... friction and ice. You want to keep your flocked birds in slot bags so they don’t bang together. Also... if you get ice on your decoys... let it melt off. Don’t try and knock or peel it off as it can effectively scalp the decoy.

      Do you sell them?

Rarely. The majority of the decoy work I do is commissioned. So in a way yes... but not really if that makes sense.

This would pass for a gunning decoy but would never make it as a decorative decoy…..decent job though. 👍

They are listed in there as they get used.
