When I worked for Disney years ago, I was able to talk a tower of terror cast member into giving me a backstage tour of the ride after hours. The 5th dimension scene is designed to be an elevator shaft if you were looking up. That’s why there are pipes and gears lining the walls.
I was always confused at the scenery in that part - just thought we were behind the scenes of how an elevator works or in the dingy part of the hotel. This makes SO much more sense now!

@@ixisduran7036 chances are the ride before them missed to magnet to send them forward so a cast member had to come up there and fix it, which is why the work lights are on. Along with the fact that their ride delayed as well, this has nothing to do with Disney itself.

Actually not possible they shut the ride down if there's lightning anywhere in a 20 mile radius as it's a very tall structure that has open windows. The shaft also is equipped with a mechanism to slowly decend to the bottom if something happens which is VERY VERY rare. So this comment is 100% fake!
It's usually a special event thing or a malfunction. It usually happens when a car gets stuck in the other scenes, the car their in continues on because it's fine but the lights come on so they can get the other people out. Like space mountain the lights come on of a car gets stuck or it shuts down

One of the other cars most likely had a problem with the magnet (if a car is even 1/16 of an inch off it shuts it down very very safe stuff in there) so they had to go get them off the car . This car was fine so they just kept going. The work lights come on when there's something wrong! Nothing to be scared of just the workers helping people out
No, at least it's never happened, it stops before it drops or goes up. And if it did have to stop it has a safety thing that just brings it to the bottom
Yup, it's happened quite a bit. When the unloading floor is clear, they close the doors (if they are open), and the elevator moves down to the unload slowly.

@@Solstice2820 That’s actually part of the ride system. The vehicle actually follows those lines on the floor for guidance.
Lights on gives the whole ride a creepier vibe to it. Just feels very remote or lonely.
