    It's interesting to me that they seem to be speaking with a particular rhythm that makes it seem almost musical. I'd be interested to know if that is just a reading cadence, or if that rhythmic quality carries over into regular speech.

      They are reading samples from verses, which always prompts a particular cadence.

      It's poetic rhyme. Regular speech doesn't sound as rhythmic. It's just like English iambic pentameter, when you do the Sonnets, for example. The Biblical passages were translated in meter in Tibetan. Hence the sound. It's pretty much the same poetic meter as Chinese poetry. Not surprised given both are Sino-Tibetans.

    So in numeral Lhasa and khams is similar but Amdo is bit different while in text Lhasa is different but Amdo and khams is similar ?

    • @eehkoh7935
      @eehkoh7935 6 місяців тому +1

      The texts are slightly different. It is possible to have exactly the same texts and have the readers read them out. But there would be lexical differences that will make the other speakers which the text are not based on make no sense out of what they read.

    Tibetan script is a sister script of most South Asian scripts and Many of Southeast Asia from the Brahmic family.
    For the numerals I could read like upto 5-6 of them without any issue. They were completely similar to numerals in Devanagari script.

      I myself am a ᤕᤰᤌᤢᤶᤐᤠ / Yakthumpa; And it's clear that we took inspiration from Lepcha script, which was inspired by Sambhota script; All of these use an abugida system where there are consonant sounds & then a vowel marker. All of them are indeed taken from Dhamma lipi / Brahmi script used in ancient India; And still used by the Mangar people. They all have the same Ka, Kha, Ga, Gha, Nga structure & vowel structure.

    they sound like just different dialects rather than different languages. is it because the text they read out was made from one base text and they just happened to choose the cognates so they sound almost the same?
